    Wand of Accuracy question

I'd say that you can do it after rolling, but before you know the result. If you could do it after the result, it would be an immediate interrupt. As a free action, it's like putting a bit of a curve on the ball after the fact, using the wand to direct the attack, not unlike a Wii remote.

4e Hit Points and pre-4e Hit Points: A Comparison

I like to think of it this way: Normally, I think I'd do pretty well if I suddenly got into a random fistfight on the street. However, if I go to the gym and lift weights for an hour until my legs and arms feel like jelly, I do not think I would last for more than a few seconds. My reactions...

    Immediate Interrupts: Rule vs Etiquette?

I almost never have the PC's defences in front of me, and they're subject to change, so I always just say "The creature flicks its tail, loosening a spike that whizzes toward you; I hit 29 vs. AC." The effect of this style is that it's always perfectly clear what the stakes are, and the player...

    Disappointed in 4e

This is basically the way I narrate 4e damage. The characters in my game are becoming progressively more bruised, cut up, acid-burned, scorched, and frostbitten as they proceed through the dungeon. However, the damage is not reflected by hit points, which indicate only your continued ability...

    Fan Creation Compilation

This thread needs a sticky. This index is excellent, and will save me a lot of time searching through pages of posts.

    Disappointed in 4e

What, exactly, do you mean? The only wilderness flavour to the ranger lies in his class skills, which are easily remedied, and a few of his utility powers. He has no animal companion, he has no druid-ish spells, he doesn't even get Track automatically. The ranger could be called "the...

Preferred Format: Ret. to the Temple of Elem. Evil or Exped. to the Ruins of Greyhawk

My ideal module format would appear in two booklets. One for the description text, maps, DM notes, and background material, another for statblocks. That way, I could get the benefit of the Paizo-era Dungeon modules while not cluttering up page after page with huge statblocks. Just arrange the...

WotC acknowledges 4th Edition Not for Everyone?

I can't believe this has two pages of replies. Here's the deal: People are actually still playing other editions of the game. WotC produces these tiles, which actually can be used with any edition, because they're basically just visual aids, and the game has always used a 1" scale for tabletop...

Word of Mearls: Official Player races will not get Oversized Weapons. Forked Thread

Why isn't this the text of Oversized, then? Or any of the other balanced fixes that myriad posters in this thread have proposed? Why did they go with the broken implementation?

Word of Mearls: Official Player races will not get Oversized Weapons. Forked Thread

Again, doesn't this indicate that Oversized was broken right out of the gate? There's nothing wrong with allowing characters to be big, and have access to big weapons. The mechanics for doing so should, however, be universally applicable and easy to use. Because Oversized was poorly...

London, ON 4e group needs replacement players

We just lost two players to the relentless panic of new parenthood, so we need to fill out our roster again. We're playing a 4e conversion of the Age of Worms, and are currently at 9th level in the Hall of Harsh Reflections. We play on Sundays, usually at noon. We're a bit casual, but we...

    My avatar is broken

But then it wouldn't be a palindrome. If I ever find out that they've fixed the issue causing my problem, I'll change it back, but for now this will do.

Stalker0's Obsidian Skill Challenge System (NEW VERSION: 1.2!!!)

The PDF seems to be broken for me. I'm using Adobe Reader version 8.1.2. Another PDF of your stuff (the skill challenges sheet v1.8) works fine.

Word of Mearls: Official Player races will not get Oversized Weapons. Forked Thread

It seems almost trivial to fix this problem in retrospect. Just giving a +1 to weapon damage is pretty much mechanically equivalent to advancing the die type, but doesn't break the system when you start throwing in rules that interact with die type and number. Why, then, was it designed to be...

Word of Mearls: Official Player races will not get Oversized Weapons. Forked Thread

Circa early 2008: Players: Hey, you took gnomes out of the game! What gives? WotC: No, they're right there in the back of the MM. If you're playing a gnome, use those rules. We'll eventually publish a more fleshed out version, but we can't think of anything good right now. For now, the MM...

No, it was PC and Henry. I sent you a PM. Let's see if you get it.

Word of Mearls: Official Player races will not get Oversized Weapons. Forked Thread

I'm of two minds on this one. First, balance! yay! Second, isn't the problem here exactly what we had been promised wouldn't happen in 4th edition: something comes out that has a synergy with existing rules that breaks stuff? The Oversized ability was in the MM, with the strong implication...
