    Fifth edition should be base-twelve

I am crestfallen. What part of base twelve isn't perfectly elegant and perfectly suited to D&D?

D&D 5E (2014) Hope for an open GSL?

Zero. The Hypertext SRD had zero chilling effect. If it convinced one player not to buy the Player's Handbook, it convinced ten players to buy some WotC product. The Hypertext SRD was in no way competition for D&D. The same way pirated PDFs were in no way competition for D&D. A few ignorant...

Oh my. I am thoroughly chastised.

    Fifth edition should be base-twelve

Maybe it's a ploy, maybe it isn't. :] Maybe I just want a chance to try out my d144 (which would be a d100 in duodecimal, and consists of one regular d12 and a second d12 labeled with multiples of 12), which I think would be much more satisfying than the d% we currently use for rolling on...

    D&D 5E (2014) I Hope I Hate 5e

That would be Aweeeeesommmmme!!!!! So if I follow your logic, we're hoping that WotC doesn't make such a cool eladrin, because we don't want to like 5E, because we want to keep on playing our current favourite edition/iteration...

What's the best that Monte Cook and Mearls have done so far?

I was going to be helpful and list all of Monte Cook's and Mike Mearls' writing credits, but seeing your attitude, I just don't feel like it. foolish_mortals, I like you and I agree with you on a lot of stuff, but you're just plain rude. Name-calling was one thing, I don't care about that, and...

    Fifth edition should be base-twelve

We're all nerds here, right? If you're not familiar with base twelve notation for mathematics, you should do a google search for it. I'll try and summarize the best I know how. I presume you're familiar with binary and hexadecimal notation. Binary is notating numbers using only two possible...

D&D 5E (2014) Hope for an open GSL?

I did the same, sometimes. Looking back though, especially from some of my later 3.5 campaigns, there was never any serious imbalance. 3pp stuff tended to be poorly edited, and could be confusing. But the real offenders, power-wise, were official WotC offerings.

Should D&D Morality be Less PC?

I'd treat pregnancy as a disease. Diseases typically deal ability score damage, but allow several Fortitude saves. And the Heal skill can be used by someone in place of your Fort save. I don't think the existence of healing magic and the Heal skill is enough to prevent maternal mortality...

D&D 5E (2014) Hope for an open GSL?

The OGL and DDI are quite different products. I don't know exactly how WotC would do it, but I know it's possible to make them both work. For one thing, WotC can declare the rules open content, but decline to release an official SRD accessible outside of the DDI. That means someone else would...

Do. Or do not. There is no making an effort.

    D&D 5E (2014) I Hope I Hate 5e

I won't get you started on the para- and quasi-planes. They are silly indeed. But the classical elements have some grounding in historical views on alchemy. Of course fire isn't an element. Everybody knows that. Except the ancient Greeks, but we all know how dumb they were. I will take a quick...

My Wife Has a List of Demands! Part One: Skills

I don't know what you're talking about. In practice, no one who didn't want to bother with half-ranks did. Some people who were interested in the math played with half-ranks. In practice, most characters just maxed out their skills. That's what bothers me about 4E and Pathfinder. They didn't...

My Wife Has a List of Demands! Part One: Skills

So change the DC charts. Why are they based on character level in the first place? Shouldn't DC charts be based on what's actually possible? This has been a pet peeve of mine in game design for a while. When you make all the challenges match the players' bonuses, it takes away the feeling of...

    D&D 5E (2014) I Hope I Hate 5e

Here's a revolutionary thought: what if Armour Class was based on what kind of armour your character be wearing? PCs shouldn't need magic items. The game should be about the heroic characters, not he who has the best toys wins. What game system are you playing that doesn't have skills? I...

Should D&D Morality be Less PC?

Yes and no. I think D&D should acknowledge the existence of slavery. I think D&D should acknowledge that there is prejudice in the world, based on race, tribe, gender, and class. But I don't think the system should endorse these things. That is to say, I don't think women should have different...

Romancing the d20 (article on upcoming 5th ed D&D)

I was never able to get into the Ralph Horsley Fallcrest piece. I think you put your finger on it with the fact that almost everything is focused on the PCs. I also apply -2 aesthetic points to any artwork featuring the 4E tiefling. Man, I hate those guys. Maybe it's because of the lieutenant...

Pathfinder 1E is a big Pathfinder surge on the way?

I think it's an already established trend that some 4E players are going over to Pathfinder and some will continue to do so. The announcement of 5E will have very little influence on the decision either way.
