Did you just censor the name Harry Potter?

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

I personally don't have any plans to run a Harry Potter rpg, but I do hope that on these forums it is still possible for someone to discuss a Potter campaign without a debate breaking out about Rowlings trans views every single time. I have played Hogwarts Legacy, and yes its token trans...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

I think any fantasy property should be open for discussion on these forums, as long as the discussion focusses on the property itself, and not their problematic author. We discuss Call of Cthulhu here, and Lovecraft was a massive racist. We all acknowledge this, but focus on discussing...

D&D 5E (2014) Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

I like to mix it up. I have my pure black hat villains, and my morally gray villains. That reminds me when two of my players sought out the help of a group of pirate-witches, to make them a special magic item. The witches then used the soul of a criminal to make them the item. "What sort of...

D&D 5E (2014) Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

I already did. The example I gave with the druids. A small group of people, against a large and powerful group, resorting to terrorism. Their plight is understandable, but their methods hurt innocent people.

D&D 5E (2014) Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

If you make it about genocide, it's no longer a moral dilemma is it? I'm talking about when the 'evil' choice isn't as black and white. When the options are kind of gray.

D&D 5E (2014) Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

Complex moral questions can be fun to include in an adventure, especially if the DM does not make a ruling what the good and bad decissions are. As soon as the DM rules what the good ending is, I feel it takes away some of the player's agency. Consider for example this situation, which I...

    D&D General Creativity?

Rule of cool. I always ask my players to narrate what their spell looks like. And when my players ask me if they can do something with the spell that isn't listed in the rules, I tend to lean towards yes. Magic should be fantastical, and I encourage creativity in my players. The same goes for...

D&D General What are the coolest/most innovative mechanics D&D could take from other games?

By the way, this is the German game system I came across. The rulers are extremely elegant, and make the picking of a class unnecessary. Every character can use any skill, as long as they use it a lot to get better in it. You can tell by just how thin the book is, that there are barely any...

D&D General What are the coolest/most innovative mechanics D&D could take from other games?

I just read a German roleplaying system that was incredibly simple. The only way to level a skill, was to roll a 4 on a 1d4 when using said skill. Say for example, you were trying to do an athletics check. Roll a 1d4, and on a 4, your athletics check improves, and you may now roll 2d4. Next...

D&D General Fantasy Equivalent of the Nuke

I was going to say Wish as well. A friend of mine ran a campaign about a kingdom where wishes were forbidden, and people were hunted who had wish granting items. The kingdom had suffered multiple catastrophic events due to people's reckless wishes, such as rulers or other people being killed...

Why We Should Work With WotC

I can't help but feel that the success of Critical Roll must be one of the reasons WotC now wants a cut of the profit. And even if they slightly backtracked on the money issue recently, they've left the door ajar to go back on their word. Which seems on brand, going back on their word is kind of...

Why We Should Work With WotC

I think the OP's comparison of the situation with pizza kind of misses some key points. I'd like to suggest a different comparison. It is as if we found out that WotC would really like to blow up a bridge. People get upset, because they really like said bridge. So WotC is like: "We're sorry...

OGL 1.2 survey is now live

And permanently damaged the IP, and destroyed several years of trust from their customers. Unless they completely walk this back, and leave the OGL 1.0a in place, then I expect them at some point to sneak more stuff into their new OGL. They'll wait till the current rage has cooled down, and...
