Will the end of Game of Thrones keep you away from House of Dragons?

I must admit the final season(s) of Game of Thrones have lowered my enthusiasm for a prequel spinoff.

Is killing a Goblin who begs for mercy evil?

I'm sure we are all going to agree on this matter, after a calm, polite and intellectual discussion.

D&D 5E (2014) Have you ever seen these weapons used regularly by PC's in a D&D 5e game?

My current barbarian character uses a Glaive and it's pretty great. Top tier damage and range too! Combine it with Polearm Mastery, and you can often make extra attacks against your enemies.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 5.5e, will you get it?

I don't know yet. I only just bought the core 5e books, since I've been playing 3.5 for most of my life. I may just upgrade to LevelUp instead.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Design

I like building my dungeons around a central theme, and focus a lot on offering interesting means of navigation. Imagine for example a passage that is out of reach, and would require a climb. Do the players take the easy path, or do they put the extra effort in, and make that climb to take an...

    D&D 5E (2014) City Adventures...how?

I love presenting my players with a big map of a city, and letting explore freely. I'll sprinkle bits of plot in their path, to keep things interesting. But I dislike heavy railroading. Of course, all this freedom also means they can miss stuff.

    D&D 3.x 3E 3rd Party Monster Index?

There are online Monster Finders, which let you filter by type, CR, etc. https://www.d20srd.org/extras/d20monsterfilter/ This one also lists the book the creature is in: https://www.realmshelps.net/monsters/find-monster.shtml But these are all from official DnD books and Expansion books. Not...

    D&D General "I make a perception check."

I've taught my players that if they ask for a check, they are asking for a chance to fail. Not every action has a chance to fail. Often you just automatically succeed. Checks are for when there is uncertainty regarding success, which is for me as a DM to decide.

What film(s) have you seen the most times?

I probably watch Die Hard and Home Alone every Christmas. If I were to look up a list of the actual movies I've seen the most, I might be surprised to see which one came out on top.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

After searching the sewers for an hour or so, underneath a town terrorized by a strange monster, we finally found its lair. During the big battle that followed, one of our party members got grappled by the beast, and dragged down to the bottom of a reservoir. "You all owe me a beer for this!"...

D&D 5E (2014) Worst Metagame Anti Player Creature Design?

In 3.5 there were monsters with a special ability to reroll a die, or to force the players to reroll.

D&D General I'm a new dungeon master!! Helpppppp

I approach these sorts of situation, the way a dialog may play out in a movie. Even when a character isn't talking, they may be involved in the conversation in some other way. They may have knowledge, or a realization, that the others have not. They may notice something during the conversation...

    D&D 5E (2014) DARK SOULS' New 5E Mechanics

You should give them a try. Elden Ring is just out, and may be the best and most accessible Souls game yet.

    D&D 5E (2014) DARK SOULS' New 5E Mechanics

All of this sounds much worse than I expected, and I'm a big fan of the Souls series. Do the rules at least play well?

How much should the GM talk during a session?

As a DM I'm constantly talking. Explaining rules and rulings, and general chit chat. But ingame, I try to keep my narration brief, since I know that if my descriptions are too wordy, I'll end up having to repeat the important details to my players. After all, there is only so much information...

    Thor: Love and Thunder spoilers

I think the wacky humor often clashes with the more serious undertones. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I think Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy did a better job finding that balance. Especially Guardians 2 had an emotional heart to it, that grounded it among all the wacky jokes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Toll the Chest

I think we can all agree that there's a grey area here that leaves room for interpretation. If a pc expects a chest to be a mimic, and uses a spell on it. Then when the mimic reveals itself, it seems unlikely that pc could be surprised by it. On the other hand, players state they are ready for...
