D&D General Starter vs Essentials vs Stormwreck Isle

I actually think it's generally a superior adventure to Dragon of Icespire Peak; there's a bit more of an emphasis on roleplaying which is nice, and IMO the two middle quests are both more thoughtfully done than anything in DOIP. Its main flaws as I see them are : - Too many NPCs in the...

D&D 5E (2024) How many combats do you have on average adventuring day.

6-8 encounters, some of which will likely be combats, some of which very likely aren't combats, and others that present multiple options of which combat is one. On average, probably three actual combats per long rest. But player choices and actions swing that a lot.

    Level Up (A5E) 5e 2024/5.5 vs Level Up A5E

5.5/2024 still does use alignment. If anything, it actually positions it slightly more prominently than the 2014 PHB does.

    Level Up (A5E) 5e 2024/5.5 vs Level Up A5E

The 2024 PHB does provide some light crafting mechanics which are certainly an improvement from 2014, but not as developed as A5E. The 2024 PHB does not offer any meaningful mechanics to enhance the exploration tier, certainly not on the level of what A5E's Journey system offers, but maybe the...

    Level Up (A5E) 5e 2024/5.5 vs Level Up A5E

De-coupling biological species/heritage/race from culture/background is something A5E did first which 2024 now handles in a somewhat similar fashion.

D&D 5E (2024) MichaelSomething's Official Statement on the 2014 D&D rules going out of print

Dude, read your post I was responding to. Read your initial post about grandpa and his magazines. Do you think you’re coming off as a sweetheart in this thread?

Well, and then the several from last year that you don’t count because you don’t like sports or something equally absurd.

D&D 5E (2024) MichaelSomething's Official Statement on the 2014 D&D rules going out of print

In the early 80s, TSR had several national TV ads for D&D. The one with Alan Ruck and Jamie Gertz is probably the best known.

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

OGLgate came close to driving me away from D&D specifically because some of my favorite D&D content originates from outside WotC/Hasbro, and the continuation of that content was directly jeopardized by WotC's plans. They backed down in the face of outcry and bad mainstream press so I stayed...

D&D 5E (2024) MichaelSomething's Official Statement on the 2014 D&D rules going out of print

You said you'd never seen a national TV ad. There was one during the Superbowl, he biggest TV ad sell of the year. Commercials also ran on other TV shows, of course, so no it wasn't "one spot." You said Times Square. I pointed out there is a D&D show with an open run in Times Square right now...

D&D 5E (2024) MichaelSomething's Official Statement on the 2014 D&D rules going out of print

Really, really not true. Last year's D&D movie had a TV ad during the Superbowl. In Times Square, right now and running successfully for months, is a theatrical D&D show. D&D is featured prominently in Stranger Things, Big Bang Theory, Community. Baldur's Gate 3 exposed a huge number of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranking the 2014-2024 5E Adventures

FWIW the original is still available in the Roll20 marketplace if that helps, and physical copies of the original Starter Set are still relatively cheaply available from online sellers.

Project Sigil All the Deets on Project Sigil the D&D 3D Virtual Tabletop

I was taking a shot at Valve's dwindling games output there, but in all honesty I think they figured out that the distributor makes more money than the producer. Incidentally, I’m not knocking WotC’s business move in this area - if I was WotC, I would 100% want to be the Steam of TTRPGs. I just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranking the 2014-2024 5E Adventures

No, Phandelver & Below does not contain anything from Dragons of Stormwreck Isle or Dragons of Icespire Peak at all. Phandelver & Below is essentially two different adventures: 1. A re-print of Lost Mine of Phandelver with changes that make a great starting adventure mostly worse. For example...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranking the 2014-2024 5E Adventures

I guess like anybody I have a broad spectrum of qualities I'm looking for, but a big one for me is "how much or how little do I need to change/fix this in order to make it work at the table?" I want to stress that of course a DM is always going to change stuff. The best adventures give you such...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranking the 2014-2024 5E Adventures

We've done this before, but with all of the official adventures of the 2014/5E era now published, it seemed like the right time to look back on them as a whole. In the past, the campaign-length adventures have often been lumped in with the anthology/compilation books, but I'm gonna create two...
