    Characters- Ongoing Druid Debate

"Animals" are meant while originally in 3.0 was just what we call animals today, in 3.5 it was expanded to include those creatures that were "Beasts" that did exist at one point (eg. dinosaurs). Beasts that were mythical creatures all got lumped into "magical beasts". Giant Eagles never...

Cold resistence = Endure elements (cold)?

"Resistance to energy: A creature with resistance to an energy type ignores a certain amount of damage dealt by that energy type each time it is dealt. For instance, a creature with fire resistance 10 ignores the first 10 points of fire damage dealt by each attack. (snip)" "Attack: Sny of...

    Characters- Ongoing Druid Debate

Dire Bat from the core rules is decent. The Desmodu bats from MM2 are pretty decent, too. However druids wildshape into animals, and how many vicious predatory flying animals do you know of that would pose a serious threat to an average human ?

    Characters- Ongoing Druid Debate

Apart from the hideousness that is spells/abilties referencing each other, Alter Self/Polymorph/Wild Shape allow you to change into an average member of a species. An advanced creature represents a special, extraordinarily tough member of its species, not an average member. The average member of...

Making 2 weapon fighting not suck-o-rama

I have no idea on the accuracy, but http://mu.ranter.net/theory/weapons.html is an interesting read. From there: "The nigh-universal image of the fantasy warrior with a greatsword is of a brawny hulk swinging a gigantic piece of metal around his head, cleaving hapless foes in two. The UO...

    Best Cleric Domain

The travel granted ability is often misunderstood, and hinges on how you read the wording: vs The first interpretation means that the granted power acts as if it was the freedom of moment spell, and the preceding text was just an example of that. The second interpretation is its specifically...

    Are shifters too powerful?

Diirk is no longer a medium sized human druid, he is now a large sized brown bear. However he is not enlarged... he is simply an ordinary brown bear. Now if he was a medium sized brown bear... well then he'd be under the effects of size altering magic. However I accept that I'll never convince...

Need help designing a 9th Level combat monster

Just so long as you don't take that 10th level in DD ;)

    Are shifters too powerful?

Actually, it does change who you are. Thats why your type and subtype change, not just your body. It should also be pointed out that this 'multiple magic effects that change your size category' that you are found of spouting is not general rule, but a tag line at the bottom of each size...

    Pit fiend wielding a weapon

Yeah, but MW chain shirt is what, -1 armour check penalty? The pit fiend in question might not care. Then again he might.

    Are shifters too powerful?

Its actually better for the druid if they don't stack; he remains a valid target of the animal growth, so the spell still goes off. But if you're playing it that multiple enlargements don't work (thats the rules) and that wildshape is indeed a size altering effect (thats a bit questionable, but...

I have a beef with druid spells (Complete Divine)

Meh, Langour isn't that bad... its a combo slow + ray of enfeeblement, except it needs both the ranged touch AND the save. Also as a strength penalty (not strength damage), it doesn't stack with itself. And you can dispel it.

    Pit fiend wielding a weapon

Why Bracers of Armour ? Why not say, a +2 chain shirt (well thats a bit over 4k when you consider cost adjustments for larger size etc... maybe a +1 chain shirt, but thats still 3 ac better and doesn't reduce his movement)

    Raising familiars

Pfft, I'm a cheapskate, and limited wish is what, 300 xp ? ;) (or 1500 + 7x13x10 = 2410 gp to hire someone to cast it for you). I'd expect limited wish to work similar to raise dead (ie. intact body, not killed by death effect etc), wish to be similar to resurrect and true resurect to be similar...

    Raising familiars

Note, if you took Improved Familiar and have something like an elemental or outsider, you can't use raise dead, reincarnate or the like.. you need limited wish, wish or true incarnate. Which actually works out for the best, its cheaper to higher an NPC to limited wish your familiar back than it...

Dwarf is just as good as the weaker LA +1s anyway. You could maybe look at something like Goliath tho (Races of Stone)

    For Nail - The Psion

Here's a good idea, lets do nothing but cast defensive powers in combat because 'my offensive ones might not work'. Guess what? Defensive powers won't always work either. Sometimes you'll get hit anyway, sometimes the enemy will simply not focus on you. Either way, no matter what you do in...
