D&D 5E (2014) How on earth is this balanced?! Twilight cleric, more in-play evidence

Savage Wombat has it right, or my perspective anyway. The cleric has rarely been the focused on target. For a lot of combat it was the half-giant barbarian. Other times the back row of casters. The damage mitigation was solid but not encounter breaking. Where things got wacky was when enemies...

D&D 5E (2014) How on earth is this balanced?! Twilight cleric, more in-play evidence

In a vacuum you are perfectly correct. In my games, both as a player and as a DM, we see a lot of focused fire. Whatever the opponents consider the biggest threat takes far more attacks than everyone else. Specific situations may change that, but it seems pretty consistent. In those situations...

D&D General How Do You All Use Dragons In Your Worlds And Campaigns?

In my current campaign there is only The Dragon. The other sorcerer kings haven't gotten close yet. In others, I've done dragons as presented in the MM. Smart, spellcasting schemers. Sometimes as common as in a War of the Lance campaign. My favorite, is as primal forces of nature. Agents of...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the best class for a single class only campaign?

Can you imagine how long combat would take with all bards? It's a terrifying thought.

D&D 5E (2014) What is the best class for a single class only campaign?

So many options. Artificers - roving tinkers Barbarians - your personal warband Bards - Josie and the Pussycats Clerics - divine quest anyone? Druids - the wilderness is your playground Fighters - their own mercenary band Monks - martial arts madness Paladins - knights of the round table...

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the arcane gish an identity.

Should it scale? Yes, however, as Minigiant (I believe) pointed out above, most of your damage will be coming from the weapon. If that is accurate, then no, it doesn't need to scale.

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the arcane gish an identity.

Are you intentionally replacing a single weapon attack with a cantrip that scales with level? That seems a bit OP.

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the arcane gish an identity.

I'm a little late to the party, but couldn't help but notice you bolded the wrong part of the PHB. Class defines what you can do, and how you can do it. It is far more than a profession. It is your tool set, but it doesn't make you your tools. We don't call everyone who uses a wrench a...

D&D General What are your Core races?

I suppose they aren't awful if you eliminate dwarves or halflings, or play steampunk. Outside of Dragon Lance they just seem like a mish mash without much substance.

Rules FAQ How Does Concentration Work in D&D 5E?

Unless you have a bard in the party. Bards are great for giving penalties to saving throws. It's really one of their best features.

D&D 5E (2014) Designing a base gish class and possible subclasses

If I was really going to build this out, instead of treating it like a brainstorming exercise... Level 1 - (base class ability) - your spellcasting focus is any one handed weapon. Level 3. - You may charge your body with magic for a number of minutes equal to your proficiency modifier. While...

D&D 5E (2014) Designing a base gish class and possible subclasses

I'd like to see a subclass that expounded on the base class (light armor) build. Probably something involving better movement and quick attacks. Also elemental and psionic subclasses. Notes: -3 cantrips seems excessive. That's better than the Druid, which is a primary caster. Just do 2...

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

And yet, they do. Preservers healing, do not. If this thread has taught me anything it's that there are tons of ways to play DS, and many of those treat cannon like a loose guideline. If you want to add cure spells to the wizard spell list at your table no one will stop you, but it doesn't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Improving Martials

Ok, thinking back over the ridiculous things martials have tried to get away with over the years and things from the edition-that-must-not-be-named I came up with a few off the wall ideas you may want to kick around. Using melee weapons (or shields) to attack at range. Probably 15/30 range...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Improving Martials

Sure, but people are more likely to use feats than invent entirely new subsystems to accomplish exactly what feats already provide. That being said, I understand it's not what you are looking for, so I'll go be quiet unless I find something constructive to add. There are already some ideas I may...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Improving Martials

The poor Battlemaster Fighter is standing in the middle of the room shouting, "I exist," but nobody seems to notice. If I'm not mistaken, there are feats that players, particularly fighters, get access to that greatly enhance their options both in and out of combat (including accessto the...

D&D General How do YOU flesh out a chaotic society?

Yeah, that example was hard for me to follow too. This would be a much better conversation in person, and probably withbeer. I may have pulled something of interest from the last couple posts that seems to gel with an idea I've had in the past. Chaotic nations, and I mean truly chaos infused...

D&D General How do YOU flesh out a chaotic society?

Lots of great answers here, and I appreciate everyone's input. Not to derail this, but I think you are putting too much emphasis on bravery based on alignment. Its certainly one take, and it seems to make sense based on the self-vs-society argument, but there have been many real world examples...
