    Slight Rogue Variant

I was thinking that later Sneak Attack damage dice arn't worth as much as the original ones. So the first 4 dice of SA damage are 1 feat per die. After that, each feat used or SA gets +2d6. This way, the entire +10d6 damage for the rogue can be bought for 7 feats. Thus, trading out SA damage...

    Savage Worlds

I'm not too fond of the odd probabilities associated with them (I prefer to be able to easily determine the % chance of success). What bothers me more, however, is that the player needs to determine before hand which die is needed for each particular action; its possible for him to roll the die...

    Savage Worlds

Unfortunately, the quickstart rules don't have any vehicle info. How do they work? Can you do this for SW? It would take a pretty long sentance just to describe all the wierd terminology used like "Raises", "Ace", "Wild Card", "Soak", and "Bennies". But with exploding dice you might end up...

    Savage Worlds

From the quick start rules, I found the game to be more rules-medium. Problem for me is that there are plenty of other games at that complexity level already. Some, like BESM, have tons of support. Aaron

    Medieval Player's Manual

I'm curious, to me the term "High Medieval" implies a very late date (at least post 1500s). Is this the intent? Esp. since things like Charlemagne, Celts and the crusades happened so much earlier. Aaron

    Questions about Warhammer Fantasy RP

I toyed with the idea of using the WFRP careers as short classes in d20. My main problem was splitting the BAB and saves up among a few levels. BAB goes up +1/1, +1/2 and +2/3 while saves go up +1/2 and +1/3. So you need at least 6 levels per class for the advancement to fit, but 6 was much more...

    Questions about Warhammer Fantasy RP

Warrior Basic Careers: Bodyguard, labourer, marine, mercenary, militiaman, noble, outlaw, pit fighter, protagonist, seaman, servant, soldier, squire, troll slayer, tunnel fighters, watchman. Ranger Basic Careers: Boatman, bounty hunter, coachman, fisherman, gamekeeper, herdsman, hunter...

    [Adamant Entertainment] DREAMSCAPES

I bumped into this on rpgnow this morning and assumed it was old and that I had missed the announcement. I've noticed that I've been more interested lately in PDF stuff than in printed stuff (what with this and the Bushido thing, etc). Anyway, why doesn't Adamant have an entry in the ENWorld...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

The problem with this reasoning is that being "invisible" automatically gives you +2 to hit and sneak attack damage. So, now I can do all sorts of silly things. Cast Blur on myself, Hide and stand in the open sneak attacking everyone (not to mention increasing my miss chance from 20% to 50%)...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

Assume a rogue is hiding in a bush. Another character failed a spot check. In the bush, bits of the rogue are exposed (otherwise he'd have total concealment). Those bits are visually detectable, the spotting character sees those bits, he just doesn't realize the bits are part of a hiding rogue...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

You are correct. I don't think anyone disagrees with this point. Often "flat-footed" is incorrectly used as a general term meaning "denied your Dex bonus to AC". There is nothing in the rules to justify this interpretation. Hide is mentioned in the rules on concealment but only to state you need...

    Different Art, Same Stats

I don't think I have used a 3e image yet to describe any monsters. I mainly stick to 1e-esque images or things I scanned from various fantasy or history books; I print them for handouts. I like to use images from Warhammer for most things like trolls, orcs and ogres. I just can't stomach the...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

I've read the article three times now but still can't find a single reference to hiding. The article is about invisible opponents, not hidden ones. Hidden characters are neither "unseen" nor "undetectable". Aaron

Advice on an undead pc race...sorta.

You talk about them being undead, but are they also part construct? I think it would be very interesting for them to be powered by negative energy. I've used similar NPCs in the past but don't know how well that would work with a normal PC party. If they are negative-powered, I would have them...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

Your DM is playing it as the rules are written. Note that this is a different from the circumstance when new combatants are added to an existing fight. New combatants are not flat-footed if they are aware a battle is going on even if they can't see any of their opponents. Even a successful spot...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

The description of Invisibility states, "Invisibility makes a creature undetectable by vision, including darkvision." So either this statement is a lie or, by vision they mean normal vision and not spells or special powers. Since a hidden creature can be detected by normal vision, they are not...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

Under the section of AC it says "If you can’t react to a blow, you can’t use your Dexterity bonus to AC." So, I would rule that if a rogue attacked after the suprise round while hidden from a place where the enemy would not reasonably expect him to be, then the target would not be able to react...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

I make a distinction between "undetectable" and "undetected". If a character uses a move action to make another Spot check and succeeds, he detects the hidden character with his vision. Hence, the hidden character is definately visually detectable. Should hidden characters also get +2 to hit...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

I wouldn't let a character IMC do this. I was just trying to explain the steps in (what I think is) the player's action so that we can systematically find out how the DM can prevent his player from getting away with it. This is a very good point. My only reservation with this ruling is that...

the Hide skill - how do you beat it?

I think the player is trying to be clever and get around the sniping rules. Here's how you do it: First, you start off hidden behind total cover such as around a corner or behind a tree. On your turn you: 1) Use a free action to lean around the corner to see your target. [See Note A] 2) Use...
