    D&D 4E Playtesting 4e... what its like

Keep in mind, Greg said he went from working on the 2,4,6,8 level cleric to working on all five characters at those levels... but that doesn't mean he's the only one making characters. There are probably other staff members creating the characters at other levels. Even if they aren't right...

What is your top question/concern about 4th edition?

Yo. Think that's all five of us now. Do we summon Captain Planet now, or just form Voltron? Or maybe summon Charles Darwin ?

D&D 4E Is 4E winning you or losing you?

When it became obvious what the GenCon announcement was going to be on, I knew I, as a D&D player, had to be there. I was pretty sure I was going to be unimpressed; I had enough 3E stuff to last me a long time, why did I need to spend more money on a new edition? My feelings changed over the...

    New Design: Wizards...

Yeah, I guess I am. I don't think they will be as necessary as they are in 3E. And what would they be used for? Per/day powers, and possibly per/encounter. Being able to have scribe a scroll with a per/day encounter seems unbalancing, unless everyone else is able to do something to gain...

    New Design: Wizards...

Now that I've had a little time to think about it, I could see this working to lessen magic items, even if a wizard wants a +X staff, tome, orb, and wand. Right now, wands, scrolls, and for higher level characters, staves, give a wizard access to more spells so he isn't limited to just his...

    New Design: Wizards...

Huh. Neat. Helps make a little more sense out of "+6 wands." What it really makes me think of is the Dresden Files (books at least- never saw the show). For much of the series, Harry uses his staff as a focus for wind and force, and a blasting rod for more destructive spells (along with the...

    D&D 4E DMs--Are you ending your campaign for 4e?

I'll start a new campaign with 4E. Whatever 3E campaigns I still have going will continue, either under 3.5 rules, or I may convert them or use a hybrid or 3.5/4E.

Pathfinder 1E Have you played or run Paizo's Adventure Paths?

To extend on my previous answer, I do plan to finish the two paths I'm running. As we're getting into the double digit levels, things are getting more complex on both sides of the screens- but from what I've read in the later adventures, I think it will be worth it. AoW really stalled out with...

Pathfinder 1E Have you played or run Paizo's Adventure Paths?

The AoW game I've been running is on hiatus while we work no a few other things. We just finished part 6. My ST game finished up part 5 a few weeks ago, then we started up the first issue of Pathfinder. It looks like we'll be starting part 6 on Thursday.

D&D 4E Enough to start playing 4e with the "Wizard's Presents" preview products?

Same here. That's the main reason I'll probably pick up the Rules Compendium, even though I'm pretty sure I'm switching to 4E.

    Challenge Rating Replaced With...What?

Going by what I remember from the Secrets of D&D seminar at GenCon, I'm pretty sure monsters will have levels similar to character levels. For encounter building, I distinctly remember the designers (I think it was Mearls speaking) saying you would choose how much an encounter is supposed to be...

    WotC Blogs II

Mearls did this to some degree in Iron Heroes with Combat Challenges. Take a set penalty to hit or defense, gain some benefit. So, take a -2, -4, or -6 to hit and gain +1, +3, or +6 to damage. Power Attack had the advantage that you could choose how big a penalty you had, and was more efficient...

    New Design article: Elves

I like. I was already planning on playing up the fey aspect of elves, rather than the ancient magical empires bit. The eladrin currently in the MM always struck me as celestial elves (I've certainly used the D&D minis as elves more often than I have as eladrin), so it doesn't bother me that...

:\ You've lost me. I'm not sure how a setting like this is going to be tied so intimately to the mechanics.

The default campaign world - new article

Because it's been WotC policy to send burly thugs to every home to ensure the rules are followed to the letter. It's a default assumption, because they have to start from somewhere. The proposed base setting is very open in a way even Greyhawk isn't. Need a city, a kingdom, a dungeon...

Let's talk about boardgames, especially RUNEBOUND and DESCENT

In my case, it works out. I'm normally the GM, so stepping into the Overlord role is pretty easy for me. But, one of my players is also interested in being the Overlord, so I've been able to play from time to time. I guess that's one of the ways I see Descent as preferable to Talisman- rather...

How long are your weekly rpg sessions?

My game gets started around 5:30 or 6pm, and typically comes to a close around 11pm (we've pushed later, but we game Thursdays so at least two of us have to worry about getting up the next morning). I miss the days when we'd get together on a Saturday and game from 11am to 8pm or later. Too...
