Do you plan out your character's advancement in advance?

I do a bit of thinking, in terms of classes and feats I'll be using. Skills I assign whenever I level, though I might glance ahead when I spend them (oh, 9 ranks of basketweaving for Grand Basket Master- I should toss some points in there). Part of it is I like thinking in terms of character...

    Move while Cleaving?

However, Supreme Cleave is not a feat; it's a class feature found in some Prestige Classes (and I don't think I've seen it outside of Complete Warrior) I would say Roy's movement is artistic license, one of the many times OotS ignores the RAW for a better comic.

Free RPG Day is fast approaching, is your FLGS participating?

My local didn't participate, but it's good to know the item I wanted the most (the Paizo module) is not only pretty cool, but will be available as a free download come Monday.

Looking for a spell. EDIT--Moon-Lancer is da man!

From the mechanics, that sounded like something out of PHB2. Nothing fit in the quick descriptions for 2nd or 3rd level spells, so I started scanning entries. Check out channeled pyroburst (4th level duskblade/wizard/sorcerer, page 106) Casting time determines damage- swift for d4s, standard...

Your Favorite Dungeon Villains and Locations?

Vanthus Vanderboren. We started Tides of Dread (part 5 of Savage Tides) tonight; we last played the campaign about two months ago, and we played There is No Honor before the second part was published. So, I'm refreshing the memories of the players: Me: And then you see Lavina Player: ...is...

Need help finding starting wealth for optional base classes

Odd- I don't see it in the errata or the FAQ either. I'd give them the same money and age category as a wizard or cleric, as seems appropriate (ie, wu jen gets money and age of a wizard, shugenja as a cleric, although something like a warlock might be younger than a wizard).

    Roger E. Moore?

Note that the linked thread is from 2004; if it was going to spark his interest, I expect we would have heard something by now. My subscription to Dragon started while he was editor, and I remember his editorials as one of the high points of each issue. Of course there's "Tucker's Kobolds,"...

    Lets Build a Juggernaut!

This is an ongoing campaign, right? As my suggestion is a little delayed in its effect. Fighter 6/Juggernaut 1 1 Adamantine Body F1 Power Attack F2 Dungeon Crasher alternate class feature from Dungeonscape page 10 (gives you bonuses against traps, bonuses on checks to break down doors, and if...

Dragon Appreciation: Which are your favorite Dragon comic series?

Coincidentally, the two without any votes (Jasmine and Flint&Steel) are the two that I don't remember at all. Also, you're missing one- Libram X, I think was the name. Ace Bloodrunner and a girl whose name I can't recall, running around a space connecting several realities. Written by Jeff...

Logic behind sales of "Expedition to Castle Greyhawk"?

Agreed. Scott (besides having a great name) seems to have been as open as he is allowed to be. Better than hearing nothing about what's going on. And it's nice to have a regular WotC presence again.

    Judging the ENnies products

Just looked over the list, and yes, I had the same thoughts.

    Fixing the Assassin

Huh. That looks interesting. Since I can't read the writer's byline, did you work on any of the other Classes of Legends? On topic, with all the spells now available for the assassin, unlimited access to the list might be a little much. And, I believe, the duskblade learns only so many...

Why you shouldn't use 5 ft corridors

This is the only part where I really ran into a problem, and as soon as I started drawing out the map, I looked, said, "That's too small," and extended it. Other than that, I don't recall any problems for my 4 or 5 person group. I do seem to recall the characters splitting up a few times. I...

    Fighter Alternatives

Dragon Magic has one for fighters and other heavy armor users. You give up heavy armor proficiency and instead grow a thick hide (which I think counts as an armor bonus and not natural armor). You can shed it at any time, and it'll grow back in about a day. The armor bonus is based on how...

    Help twink a Goliath smasher

And I believe Warhulk has a requirement of large size. Depending how long the campaign will run, I'd say four levels of fighter for weapon specialization, with melee weapon mastery coming later. Extra rage and reckless rage can help make the most of your barbarian side, although reckless rage...

    Dragon #357

I was pretty surprised to see it this close after the latest Dungeon. Highlight for me is Demonomicon- Demogorgon. 33CR of badness. Being one of his thralls is tempting, what with Dual Actions as a supernatural ability at 4th level. Looks like the comics are all getting ready to wrap up...

    What is 'normal' for you?

-group size has been fluctuating for some time, with players leaving and new players suddenly appearing. About a month ago, we dropped to three players + GM (a slow decline from a high of nine last May); tonight we added a new member, although my wife sat out the game. -group was previously two...

    Forge of War

Thanks for the tidbit, Wolfgang. That's one of the things I was hoping would be in there (and shifting maps too? Great! One of my favorite parts of the Great Pendragon Campaign is updated maps showing the extent of Arthur's holdings, as well as the territory of his enemies and allies. I...

There's one in the Dragon Compendium. No idea of the name, but I think it's ECL 1.

The problem with elves take 2: A severe condemnation [merged]

Shilsen quoted the same passage I would have to cheer Fusangite on. Very well done. I think part of the problem is Edena is using a different subrace of elf than many of us are familiar with. My games typically feature high and gray elves, sometimes dark and wood elves. But to date, I've...
