D&D 5E (2024) Gold & Other Treasure (Can we get off the treadmill?)

But the 200gp explainer is ... bad. Like, I don't like this abstraction wealth system, but using the 200gp example just makes the abstract wealth system even worse. But just tracking GP would solve the problems they implemented with the abstract wealth system with 200gp limit. And now with the...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D's Inclusivity Language Alterations In Core Rules

I would Update the Unicorn mythos to "person who is pure of heart". First of all, it would remove the sex out of the equation and second removes the gender. Like, it doesn't matter if you are a virgin. If you are an a-hole the Unicorn will nor touch you (or maybe just with the horn right trough...

D&D General 0 HP Magic Missile = Death?

    - You can have three full attacks with a monk at level 2 for 1 KI point. But we are also talking Monsters here, not PCs, so a DM can build their monsters however they like. But there seems several CR 5 creatures, that do 3 attacks with their multiattack feature. sure, but having advantage (most...

D&D General 0 HP Magic Missile = Death?

Unless wie are talking very High AC characters, attacking an unconscious character is easy peasy. Also using multiattack or extra attack or Eldritch Blast (disputed by some) to attack once, see the result, than attack a second time, see the result, attack a third Time when needed. So not using...

D&D General 0 HP Magic Missile = Death?

On principle I would agree that a low level spell shouldn't be better than a high level spell. But you can have the same effect with any spell or attack ability that allows you to attack several times in a round. Eldritch Blast, scorching Ray, multiattack, extra attack, furry of Blows... and a...

    not according to JC.

D&D General 0 HP Magic Missile = Death?

I think se should look at the design intent. Why are magic missiles hitting at the same time? From a game design viewpoint this weakens magic missile, because you can't switch targets after casting. With Eldritch Blast you fire your first blast, see the result and then decide who you wanna...

D&D 5E (2014) Justin Alexander's review of Shattered Obelisk is pretty scathing

Has anyone ever forbidden you from using slavery in your homegames? Like in my current campaign and the campaign before that I have evil creatures enslaving others and nobody is censoring me. The only time I saw WotC reacting to slavery related critique was with the whole Hadozee Incident...

D&D General When do you overrule RAW?

That is a good question. Does anybody know which rules for the Kaiju were used? Because D&D Monsters usually don't go to that size. Like a Tarrasque is 70 feet long and 50 feet wide. Godzilla is 400 feet high and 600 feet long. So Godzilla has like ten times the size of a Tarrasque in any...

D&D General When do you overrule RAW?

My problem is, when a rule or mechanic has no real association with the game world during play, because it foremost needs to make sense to me, what is just happening. But also, I can't forsee any strange interaction a rule or feat may have. Like if a character takes sentinel at level 1 and they...

D&D General When do you overrule RAW?

You present two extremes here. Mechanics only (just a Charisma role without explebation) and pure roleplay to success without mechanics. For myself, I'm totally fine with the second one but not with the first one. But - for me you don't have to method act to make an argument. You just have to...

    D&D General Fixing spellcasting components

That's why I reverse it. V,S,M are not an annoyance, they are the standard and having no V, S or M is something positive, something special. So the opposite of what we have right now, where no components is seen as the standard and tracking V,S,M is seen as something negative and annoying. With...

    D&D General Fixing spellcasting components

I went with the Tag Idea because it is easy to use on existing spells. Just look at an existing spell and if it has V, S or M missing you can apply the appropriate tag. It is just a way on how to represent it. But my basic idea is just: Unless otherwise stated a spell has V, S and M components.

    D&D General Fixing spellcasting components

Ag, okay, but that is an easy fix. You can do the somatic component of your spell with a hand that haves your spellcasting focus equipped to that hand. Should fix that, no?

    D&D General Fixing spellcasting components

Okay, my initial idea is not so much about if no-cost material components are good or bad, but about changing the spellcasting paradigm from "a spell has no V,S,M components unless stated otherwise" to "a spell has V,S,M component unless stated otherwise". So that when a player casts a spell...

    D&D General Fixing spellcasting components

I try to understand the problem here ... So, let's say I cast Acid Splash (V, S). That has a Somatic component. So I need a free hand to cast it. Now I wanna cast darkness (V, M). I need a free hand to access the component (pouch) or hold the arcane focus in it. Now I want to cast Acid Arrow...

    D&D General Fixing spellcasting components

After reading a lot of discussions here about Caster/Martial imbalances and that one of the things to keep caster power just check is barley used or actively ignored at a lot tables: Spell Components (V,S,M), I had an Idea on how to fix that problem with a simple homebrew rule. So first: why is...

D&D 5E (2014) The Audience - Do you feel like you're the target audience?

I'm the opposite. I bought a lot of the adventure books and stopped reading then often after the first chapter while I read the rules and setting books completely. Give me a Guide to Ravenloft or Ebberon over another Anthology or 1 to 12 campaign any day. Like, even trying to imagine doing all...

    D&D 5E (2024) No new OneDnD encumberance?

So the first step could be to implement a light load, that gives a benefit to movement and maybe dex checks or something, a normal load, with no benefit or malus, a high load with a malus to movement and maybe dex checks and saving throws and an overload condition with movement speed and...

    D&D 5E (2024) No new OneDnD encumberance?

So far that I can see OneDnD playtest has not touched the encumbrance system. How would you like to see D&D 2024 handle encumbrance? What would you like to see? ----------------------- The problems with the current system are: it is hard to track (having to count every ounce of weight) your...
