    My "Savage" Experience

I obviously wasn’t there to see the game play out @Retreater, however I have Lost Colony and I am half way through running that campaign. First off - this isn’t an introductory adventure. It isn’t described as an introductory adventure. It’s intended for Seasoned characters, which is an...

    Savage Worlds with no combat?

Not that I have found. When I run them it will be one of the things I do. The official answer on why the adventures are a 1:1 is that different groups may find different combats as non-essential so that is left to the GM to decide. @Jahydin - I love the system at every tier of play...

House rules to eliminate "dead rounds" + Shaken from Savage Worlds (and ... it kind of ends up like hit points)

I think one of the great things about Savage Worlds is how easy it is to house rule stuff once you have wrapped your head round the system. The core rules work for me, but more power to you. 🙂

    Savage Worlds with no combat?

We’ve just hit Heroic in the Savage Pathfinder campaign I am playing in. The great thing is that each fight can still be deadly and there is no need to have ‘speed bump’ combat to wear down resources. It can get a bit tense as combatants tend to be throwing around multiple dice of damage and...

    Savage Worlds with no combat?

SWADE Super Powers Companion is my personal favourite supers rules. It has a great mix of simulation and more narrative elements and occupies a fantastic mid-spot in terms of mechanical weight for me.

    Dismantling the Game Master

On the topic of sharing some of the GM load, we often have a rules / logistics buddy for games where there is a chunk of this. For example, when we play Savage Worlds a second person will often collect in cards after a player has had their turn, and shuffle the deck for the GM after a joker has...

Always be nice to the enablers - receptionists, cleaners, baristas, sales staff. They make the wheels of the world turn more smoothly for everyone.

    Savage Worlds with no combat?

The World Builder and GM’s Guide might be worth picking up, too. It has some real useful essays from the design team on how to use the system.

    Savage Worlds with no combat?

That’s not what the table says, it says if the enemy is weaker then each PC might face a wild card and 3-4 extras. Again, the section makes clear that this just guidance, not a CR system: “Savage Worlds doesn't use challenge ratings for combat encounters.”

    Savage Worlds with no combat?

I don’t play Deluxe, and I doubt anyone getting into the system would, either. The advice in SWADE boils down to ‘start with an enemy with a d6 in their combat skill and eyeball it from there’. I don’t consider that a system for balanced combats; others are free to make their own mind up.

    Savage Worlds with no combat?

It’s my favourite system by far, and a big part of that is the ability to put a fun mechanical overlay onto non-combat encounters. Even in ‘regular’ campaigns with combat the rules for tests and support can make non-combat characters viable. Another interesting aspect is that lack of a...

Savage Worlds Horror Companion Is More Than A Monster Mash

I’ve enjoyed them all so much I bought second copies to lend to my gaming group. 🙂 SWADE Horror is proudly in the ‘pulp horror’ space. I would pick it over Call of Cthulhu for a number of their classic campaigns which feature more direct confrontation with the mythos and cultists that can...

    Savage Worlds with no combat?

Dangerous Quick Encounters is the built-in implementation in Savage Worlds for de-emphasised combat. It’s a one-round activity, everyone says how their character is contributing and a skill is selected to cover that. It’s usually used for ‘speed bump’ combat where the outcome is pretty much...

What is it about TTRPGs for YOU?

I think there are many factors in combination which TTRPGs as my primary hobby. I have also done quite a bit of wargaming over the years (though not actively at the moment) and we also do quite a lot of board gaming these days. But RPGs are the #1. It gives a uniques set of opportunities, all...

The older i get the less I need.

Back when I was in my late teens / early twenties, cash was tight and I sold off some collections to fund new purchases. Eventually I regretted that and now I am very resistant to selling off parts of my collection. Recently I even bought back some of the systems I had sold after we moved to a...

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

Probably a sensible approach. I would put Lost Colony as one of the least complex Pinnacle backdrops. ‘Proper’ Deadlands is possibly a little more complex, then Savage Pathfinder with Savage Rifts where everything goes to 11. I’m currently running the plot point campaign from the Lost Colony...

Kickstarter's 'U' Shaped Curve Is A Reverse 'J' And More Pronounced Than You Thought!

That is definitely a weakness from my perspective as a backer. When you have a few campaigns running from different creators, working out delivery target dates can be tricky since they all share that differently. It’s especially difficult a year down the line when the information starts to...

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

Could you tell us more about what you thought worked well in Dragonbane? It’s a game I have read reviews of but not felt strongly enough to purchase. I would agree with others that you can be uber in AD&D, however it’s more about the treasure than character class based abilities. Rod of Lordly...
