    Removing 3.X Iterative Attacks (Suggestions)

One thing I found that slows down combat in 3.X games is the glut of attacks that start occurring at higher levels. Iterative attacks are one of the things that always annoyed me about 3.X, and the lack thereof are one of the few things I really liked about 4.0. Enough of 4.0 does not interest...

    Conversion: 4E to 3e (lol)

Actually, after playing a few games of 4e and reading the rules, as interesting as the game is and as fun as the games I played were, it is missing something I can not put my finger on. So, I am putting 4e aside and picking up 3e and WFRP again. But! I do plan to pull ideas from 4e to 3e...

    D&D 4E Converting 4E bits to 3.X

Something else that worked pretty well for us, was using the Book of Iron Might. It did not ramp up fighter damage a ton, but it made them MUCH more versatile. I also used a house rule that melee classes could 'specialize' in the maneuvers from the book, cutting down the attack roll penalties...

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

I don't think the Uruk-Hai were smarter than men. Perhaps as smart, but not smarter. Stronger and more ruthless, definitely, and more hardy than men or orcs or goblins.

    D&D 4E Converting 4E bits to 3.X

On the subject of getting rid of iterative attacks, I am somewhat torn. I don't mind them too much, and they do help the fighter close the damage gap with spellcasters. Some ideas I am thinking of for my game (since having tried 4e a few times I am leaning into the 'not for me' camp), include...

    [Ritual] Summon Monster

Verdande, I have been working on some summoing-esque rituals myself, which, while a bit more along the higher powered Planar Binding line, might work for what you are looking for. Posted these earlier, but rather than try to relink to the old thread, this is what I came up with so far...

Why would your wizard ever bother getting Meteor Swarm?

Heh, it seems almost everyone is houseruling Meteor Swarm. That says something about the spell! My own personal houserule is that it adds: Efftect: You can shift all targets in the area 2 squares. Sustain: Standard This actually lets the wizard bounce the targets into the 'center'...

    Getting gritty with 4e

Heh, sounds familiar! Though honestly, in WFRP (and Dark Heresy), that is what Fate Points are for. And I was always kinda generous with those too.

    Getting gritty with 4e

Agreed completely. What is funny, is I will start working on something for WFRP, and then think "You know, I kinda want more heroic characters." Then work on something for DnD and have the thought of "I kinda want something more gritty!" :) Of course, I am weird like that!

    4E, has your opinion changed?

I am even enough on my likes and dislikes for the system that I went with "Indifferent, have played". Overall it is good, but then something I really hate will jump out in my face, or the very gamist rules will pop up and slap immersion around. :) Though, honestly, the one big thing that...

Missing from the DM's Toolkit: powers

Exactly. Same reason WotC held back certain iconic monsters from the MM. To help the MM2 sell better ("Look what is in here!"). If they gave us all the tools we wanted in the core books, we would not buy their splats.

Anyone else disappointed objects still have hit points?

Am I bothered that objects have a rules system attached for destroying them? Not at all. Did I like the Hardness rules from 3e better? Yes indeedy! The key to 4e though, is common sense. If I had a player try to break down a stone wall with their quarterstaff (and they were not some kind of...

    D&D 4E [4e] New Rituals

The reason I did not deal with binding in the ritual and just 'assumed it', is that it is just one more hurdle to jump through, and no other edition of DnD has forced casters to do such a thing. You summon something and it is yours to play with. Plus, you are increasing their chances of failure...

    D&D 4E [4e] New Rituals

I have been brainstorming various things for 4e, in preparation for a game I would like to run. One thing that was missing, to me, was the summoning and undead creation spells from previous editions. I know that 4e has this obsession with 'economy of action' and not letting a PC have more...

    Pre-Cast Rituals?

As promised, here is the spell tattoo feat idea we came up with, just finished hashing it out. Let me know what you think! Spell Tattoo Prerequisite: Level 11+, Int 16+, Dex 16+ Benefit: You have been taught the techniques of imbuing special tattoos with the power of a spell...

Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

If you can find it, Space Ship Zero might also be what you were looking for, at least as a start.

I've made up my mind...for now.

In a way, I agree with Renfield, about the Scrying issue. There are lower level Scrying rituals (and you can always add more), but the cost on the higher level ones (and some of the lowers) is silly. I already plan to cut those costs by quite a bit, perhaps even reworking them entirely. I do...

Where is the Cheapest place to get minis?

If you are willing to deal with counters instead of minis, the absolute cheapest is making them yourself. Use TokenTool (free) to make the counter you want off of any picture you like, size it to what you want, then print it on a color printer on cardstock paper and cut it out. Presto, instant...

I just did something I never though I would do

Exactly, BryonD. And those of us who like 4e, but still play 3.X as well, do find it somewhat irritating. I would love to see some of the better gaming mags out there (not that many are left), like Kobold Quarterly be able to have 4e and 3.x material in them. Or for the Pathfinder adventures...

How does the GSL affect me?

I would not write out 3PP doing 3.X stuff just yet. Look at Mutants and Masterminds, it survives just fine on its own, with no need of support from "standard" 3.e stuff. I am sure that the current 3.x field WILL shrink, that is just how the market works. But a not insignificant number of...
