    D&D 3.x 5e Forgotten Realms - should it be closer to 3e or 4e?

I voted 3e, but I feel like my ideal version of the Realms would take a 3e level of detail and: a) De-level over half the archmages. I'm happy for them to be there but they should be mostly mortal. The setting should get closer to the NPC power levels of 3e Eberron (but not all the way there)...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog - Wizards Like to Roll Dice Too

As long as the math is right, I don't see much reason to get worked up over this. Easy to adjust who does how much rolling without throwing off the game at your own table. I do like static defenses, especially because of the rock-paper-scissors aspect of 4e. If anything I felt they didn't go...

D&D 3.x Can someone explain the skill/ability interaction and how it differs from 3e/Pf...

My reading of what's been released thus far is that the differences are 2: 1) The relative weight of "skill" bonuses vs. ability bonuses has changed. Ability bonuses will constitute more--if not most of--one's bonus. I have no clue what leveling up will look like. 2) I put "skill" in quotes...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog - The Fighter

The thing that worries me about the 3e talk is that level by level customization usually meant +1 to this, +2 to that, +1 to the other thing, etc. I really hope they make the baseline fighter have broadly applicable bonuses which can be given up for maneuvers or situation-specific bonuses. And...

    D&D 4E Your 4e Bucket List

What's missing from 4e that you would like to see before all WOTC's mechanical prowess gets directed to 5e? Here are a few things I would love to have: 1) An essentialized Warlord. All out with no Daily powers. 2) I would also welcome an essentialized Monk and/or Avenger. 3) Easier to...

D&D 5E (2014) Things from other games that are unlikely to be put into NEXT that you will port over

It's like that but each character has specific personality traits tied to each of good, evil, neutral, etc. So you might be generous (good), ambitious (neutral), and vengeful (evil). Each PC has different high points and different temptations.

D&D 5E (2014) Things from other games that are unlikely to be put into NEXT that you will port over

Thinking of adapting the alignment rules from The Secret Fire. Every character has a good, neutral, and evil personality trait and you slide along the scale as one dominates your actions.

    D&D 5E (2014) On 5e Splatbooks

I'm fine with rules heavy splat books as long as they are big discrete packages that are easily browsed. I'd rather not have tiny fiddly bits (I'm looking at you, feats) spread across multiple books for the same character concept. So I dont want to consult 5 different books and 12 Dragon...

    Attacks per Round

1/attack per round makes a ton of sense if rounds are short. 4e had, I think, the right idea. But the rounds are so long that if you miss you feel like not much has happened for 10-15 minutes. If rounds were shorter then missing is less big of a deal; it will be your turn again in 3-5 minutes.

D&D 5E (2014) How quickly should ability scores increase in 5e?

In 3e, I gave a "point buy point" at every level rather than a +1 bump every 4. So it cost 2 to increase from a 14 to a 15, for instance. That created a nice tradeoff between pumping lower but secondary stats and putting more points into getting prime attributes up; most players did a mix of...

Dumberest D&D tropes and combinations (any edition)

Hails of arrows from a single archer. This made sense when combat rounds were 1 minute. No longer.

    Wizards and their variants!

4e dropped the ball on this too. We could have had striker evokers, leader necromancers, controller illusionists, etc. They could have been subclasses and shared utilities under Essentials. Lots could have been done.

After DDXP, how are you feeling about D&En?

I'm feeling like someone needs to break their NDA! Seriously. Not one all weekend?

What Does Your Perfect Edition Look Like?

Give me: Basic style simple characters for those that want it (and for 1-shots) and speed of combat for small skirmishes 1e style exploration-heavy adventures, traps and puzzles that matter 2e style settings with mechanical consequences/differences 3e style customized characters for those...

    D&D 5E (2014) The classes of 5e (now with 90% less speculation)

Mystic = Monk from Basic/Rules Cyclopedia. I think Priest will be separate from Cleric but otherwise this looks right.

    D&D 5E (2014) The classes of 5e (now with 90% less speculation)

An assassin's just someone who kills you without kicking down your door and slaughtering all your guards and other employees first. Really they're better people than most adventurers. At least ceteris paribus.

My number #1 wish: No More Magic Marts!

Magic shops belong in Eberron, but that's what makes Eberron unique (among the official settings).

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5E have Healing Surges?

I don't foresee a wounds/vitality system as core, but hopefully they'll have a good one in a module. To echo what Oni said above: as long as there are no wands of cure light and the cleric isn't necessary. I like healing surges because they got rid of those two things. If there's another...

How many got the notification in their DDI account email? I tried my DDI address and got nothing.
