    A Vital Issue

What will the rules be for characters falling in lava? Will it affect high complexity vs. low complexity PC's differently? WHY IS WOTC SILENT ON THIS ISSUE?!

    Prime shot vs. Beast companion

I would go with the hawk. All of those abilities are on the low enough end of the power scale that the tradeoff makes virtually no difference to your character's competence.* So go with the hawk. Because it's cooler and character-defining. *And besides, the relevant tradeoff is actually...

Tools of Two Trades (Weapliment Expertise) Article Up

These are way clunkier than the expertise feats that appears in the Essentials books. Too many fiddly bits. The two-handed + holy symbol one is terrible for avengers, who have almost no ranged area attacks.

    Dear Wizards of the Coast...

Basic attack powers for non-str based melee characters (Avengers, etc.). I know Power of Skill exists, but whether I can make a basic attack shouldn't depend on worshiping a particular god.

    The incredible shrinking stat block!

I like having the ability scores; allows for non-trained skill checks. Being able to see the intelligence of the monster also helps in deciding its tactics. Otherwise, a great improvement.

    Redhurst Academy of Magic

Something I toyed with that I think would work well in 3.x Redhurst, inspired by the gestalt rules from Unearthed Arcana: -Players pick classes from the basic classes in Grim Tales (or d20 modern) -All classes cast spells as a wizard of their level -You may specialize in a school of magic -You...

    Wife + I LFG in NoVa/DC

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I went to grad school at GMU, so I know the area game stores reasonably well. Unfortunately Chantilly's too far to drive on the weekdays. I should add that we're happy to host a game as well, I just don't have time to run anything.

The Secret Fire (Legends & Labyrinths)

My friends and I played it with George and had a blast. Of course, we also played with him when it was a set of house rules of Essentials and also had a blast. There are some great ideas in the game and I definitely think it's worth a shot.

    D&D 4E iTunes Store Apps for D&D4e

I would love it if the online character builder (even though I don't like it that much on my compute screen) could be accessed from an iPad. I think touchscreen would make the interface vastly more tolerable.

What do you think the 2012 setting is gonna be?

I think it's funny that there was an entire article about how NOT to pitch stuff to Dungeon/Dragon by saying it has "a twist," but that's how they pitch their products.

    Wife + I LFG in NoVa/DC

My wife and I just moved to Alexandria. We'd love to find a weekly game, preferably on a weeknight. We play a lot of 4e but would be happy to try most other stuff. The group is more important than the game. We've also tried and liked: Cortex (the BSG and Serenity system), Mutants and...

    Networking with DC/Va/MD gamers?

My wife and I moved to Alexandria last week. Let us know when you move here!

What are the best classes for each role in 4th edition?

This is definitely wrong. Given CA, Rogue benefits every turn from Sneak Attack. With no one next to him, Avenger benefits from Oath every attack, and every turn with Painful Oath. These both pair wonderfully with a Warlord.

I'm not sure I buy the Fullblade

Mechanically, there would be no need for the fullblade if greatswords were worth using. But they're not. So while in previous editions I've been against "it's an [iconic two-handed weapon], BUT BIGGER!" as a justification for a superior weapon, in 4e I think it was necessary if you wanted...

The difference between martial classes in Core and Essential

Yes, less record keeping. Definitely more complicated than old-school fighters--you have 2-4 stances or movement techniques to choose from each round, plus your Defender aura if you're a Knight--but less so than other 4e characters. Personally I'm a big fan of having slightly expanded at-will...

The difference between martial classes in Core and Essential

Essentials martial classes also lack Daily powers. They get things like static to-hit and damage bonuses instead. Also, they tend to have just one encounter power (Power Strike or Backstab) that's a damage booster on a hit. They get to use it additional times per encounter as they level (up to...

    You down with OCB?

I was going to comment "Yeah you know me," until I realized you meant "online" builder instead of "original" builder.

    D&D 4E 4e core or essential?

You could use the Kobold Hall from the DMG with Essentials. It's certainly no worse than the Red Box adventure (which is beyond terrible). You'd only need 1 <$20 book for the trial run. Errata with PHB 1 is a problem if a player decides he likes his class (or anything his character has) and...
