YOUR IDEAS FOR STAR WARS CELESTIALS: No Idea Is Too Outrageous

I take it you're up to speed on the Fate of the Jedi novels, which tied in a lot of this stuff? Bear in mind that there are hints therein that Abeloth was not necessarily a unique individual. You could always borrow from Babylon 5's Shadows, Vorlons and First Ones. Given that the DarkStryder...

July 2013: Magic Item Compendium Reprint

Found on Amazon here. At this rate, WotC will have published more 3.5 and 1E material between the announcement and release of Next than 4E material. ;) :p EDIT: Never mind, scooped.

AD&D 2E 2E Core Reprints Due in May

OTOH, the 4E books are four years old and the 1E books aren't available directly from Amazon. Tough to draw conclusions.

Review Triple-Play: Monsters of Sin: Avarice, Envy, and Lust by Open Design

Ph.D. student in Historical Theology, and the list goes back to at least Pope St. Gregory the Great. There were two schools of thought on the place of pride in the list. Some place it as one of the seven, others, including Gregory and St. Thomas Aquinas, IIRC, place it above them as the...

    Evolving editions?

It was a concern at the Dawn of Time (2000). :)

    Evolving editions?

Well, how are we defining 'difficulty'? It's less effort to rebuild a 3E class than a 4E class, for example, but it's more challenging to make sure that it doesn't throw anything terribly off balance. 3E is a tremendously expandable system due to its vast amount of material, basic resolution...

Review Triple-Play: Monsters of Sin: Avarice, Envy, and Lust by Open Design

And as a medievalist, a slight correction on the characterization of Hell. Dante divided up Purgatory, not Hell, by the Seven Capital Sins. Hell was divided more by the distinction between Sins of Weakness/Incontinence, Sins of Violence, and Sins of Fraud. Hell punishes the acts or final fruits...

    Evolving editions?

OTOH, there seems to be evidence that even the original designers didn't spot the implications of all the rules changes they made. Or is it your contention that CoDZilla, caster supremacy, and the class tiers are a) non-issues or b) intended?

Are you part of the "Lost Generation" of RPG gamers?

Or dumping incriminating evidence before the Great Purges start and those who do not bow to 1E, Pathfinder or Next get sacrificed to idols of Gygax, Paizo or Mearls, respectively. :)

Are you part of the "Lost Generation" of RPG gamers?

As someone who's identified himself as part of this generation/"middle school"/etc. for years, this is pretty much spot-on. It's why what I've been waiting for--and what I think a lot of us are waiting for--is the restoration of the PDFs or the old source material in other formats; system isn't...

    D&D 3.x More 1E and 3.5 Reprints

Not Gygax-era 1E, not 3E. We'll be lucky if we get PDFs. ;)

1st Edition Premium Unearthed Arcana Reprint

My thought is that they'll be able to actually move this product at $50 list if it's a version that finally won't fall apart. :)

    D&D 3.x More 1E and 3.5 Reprints

You realize Unearthed Arcana was a product by TSR and carried Gary Gygax's name and imprimatur, right? :)

    D&D 3.x More 1E and 3.5 Reprints

Every so often, I check what Amazon has listed for WotC releases, as a means of seeing what's upcoming. The schedule appears to have finally updated--reprints of some key supplements are coming in 2013. For Valentine's Day, 1st Edition fans may finally get a copy of Unearthed Arcana that will...

    D&D 5E (2014) Everything aboot 5E looks boring.

I can't speak for TS, but WotC will be getting my money when they start putting up those old edition products--there's a lot of BD&D and 2E setting stuff I never picked up and don't want to pay secondary market prices for, and even a few late 3.5 books. That should counterbalance the fact that...

Rate of Advancement: A Level per Day?!

I ran the numbers last night. It takes four average encounters of equivalent level to reach levels 2, 3, and 4, but eight to go from level 4 to level 5.

D&D 5E (2014) How are people currently feeling about 5e?

Guardedly optimistic--I like the 'race/class/background/theme' structure and the de-emphasis of the combat grid, but I'm not thrilled with the return of Vancian casting, think the 'letting a character own an encounter' approach needs to be approached carefully, and still wish WotC had some...

My favorite heresy: mundane vs. mundane & magic vs. magic, please!

Actually, poor fighter saves appears to be largely a 3E-ism. Looking at my Rules Cyclopedia, the fighter's saving throws are either always better than the wizards or at most a point or two below. In 2E, they start out worse, but pull ahead around name level. True; part of the issue is that...

    Let's read the entire run

On the bright side, we got some brief hints at interesting parallel planes and a decent Citadel Cavitius sourcebook out of it, and some killer Kevin McGann art. :) From what I've heard, the product may have suffered from managerial interference--the came from on high, as I understand.
