We do it, along with having a DMPC, because of having only three newish players and needing 5 PCs to avoid regular death. They are high enough of a level now, though, that if my PC dies, we will try without adding a new one and see how it goes, possibly also with my player that is running 2 PCs.

Could you just switch all giants to the larger size? That way, you could just get larger bases for the others.

D&D is a primarily English-language game, although it has been translated into different languages around the world. You are probably going to find yourself in the minority about that. And if you are really talking about boxed text existing at all, stop throwing in the strawman argument of it...

Then your issue isn't with the boxed text. It is with the translators who, for whatever reason, ignore the boxed text.

As a beginning DM with beginning players, I love boxed text. However, I don't always read it word for word. It depends upon the situation.

If I went by that logic, we wouldn't have any sessions. My son simply can't concentrate for that long, even with breaks.

Because I do not want to do that. Having a GMPC works best for us.
