    Level Up (A5E) Resting

As far as we've seen, yeah it's unfortunately still a Short Long Rest and a Long Long Rest. o5e's "Design" assumed a SR after every 2 combats, so equivalent to a 4e Milestone, which just made everything so messy. The main upgrade with regards to Short Rests is that Exertion recovers on a Short...

Official News Keeping it Classy: Updated Core Classes in Level Up

And we pay for it being an option by character abilities being delayed until several levels in to prevent more quick dips, OR they give powerful abilities within 2 levels regardless and make them OP dips depending on which side of incompetent Wizards was on that particular day. Great reason to...

Level Up (A5E) Level Up Class Preview: Adept

The Marshal is the LU implementation of the 4e Leader Class "Warlord".

Level Up (A5E) Level Up Class Preview: Adept

Fighter, Adept, Warlock, and maybe Herald are the top ones for me, gotta get a look at them all before I know which one speaks to me the most.

Level Up (A5E) Level Up Class Preview: Adept

Oh yeah no, same hat, I'd meant in comparison to the Playtests. But I dug up the Adept and it had the same structure, it just feels a lot different with the Exploration Knacks being renamed and not shunted to the end of the class. Warlock was the only o5e Class I felt was adequately designed...

Level Up (A5E) Level Up Class Preview: Adept

Ohhh ok Knacks being renamed makes sense. My other question is that I love love love the ala carte build type with Invocation-esque Focus Features, is that common among the Classes now or just a particularly deep toybox for the Adept?

Official News Keeping it Classy: Updated Core Classes in Level Up

Oh, absolutely. Everything I've seen about Martials has me super excited. I've got pretty much nothing nice to say about o5e aside from the people it brought into the hobby. I'd be pleased if Level Up was just o5e but slightly to the left that I could play with them with no money going to WotC...

Official News Keeping it Classy: Updated Core Classes in Level Up

Powergaming is just on entirely different scales between them. The ceiling is lower, true, but it's also a lot easier to stumble into it. F to the Four Elements Monk in a party with a Chronurgist Wizard, or a Bladesinger Wizard, or...any Wizard really, even one who decided just not to take a...

Official News Keeping it Classy: Updated Core Classes in Level Up

Multiclass Cheese is a good thing to target since it's a lot harder to fix the busted Subclasses that you can't actually touch, but that's fixable by DMs trimming what o5e content they allow. Though the one I find most egregious, the Bladesinger, no longer eclipses Martials by virtue of then...

Level Up (A5E) Issue with maneuvers

It's a similar case to some Skill Feats in PF2 being 2nd Level and requiring Expert, which was in Core something that only Rogues could achieve. It's not the most intuitive, admittedly, but it's thorough and future proofing, which is good design. And it's not a "Feat tax" to "fix" anything...

WOW that is some powerful RAW vs RAI, legitimately hilarious.

Official News Keeping it Classy: Updated Core Classes in Level Up

I agree with this design change regardless, but did something change in the base 5e rules at some point to change the "Can only cast two spells on one turn if one is a Cantrip" bit? I always thought that was a limiting factor for the worst of Action Surge Multiclass Cheese.

Official News Keeping it Classy: Updated Core Classes in Level Up

I love all these changes, and especially the transparency about the game design. Fighter getting more interesting options in place of "I do my attacks again" adds so much, and the early playtest documents really showed that the devs got what makes Fighter so appealing, like I was utterly in...

Level Up (A5E) Feats, Feats, & More Feats!

Ad-hocing stuff is fine, though at a certain point of relying on it I have to ask why a person isn't playing a different more rules lite narrative based system, but at the end of the day you can't please everyone and the two options come down to "Include stuff and people who don't want it can...

Level Up (A5E) Feats, Feats, & More Feats!

Adept Speed is just a building block to build towards what you want. Monk became Adept to allow a greater range of playstyles, and not every Adept sees land speed as a defining feature. So it doesn't have to be! Monk has always suffered from being a very specific set of abilities in an all or...

Level Up (A5E) Feats, Feats, & More Feats!

Damn, was really hoping Level Up would sidestep the "Want to take a Feat, huh? Well how well did you roll at CharGen for starting stats?" problem. Leads me to couple questions that aren't exactly Feat related, but are relevant to the opportunity cost of taking Feats. First, did Point...

Level Up (A5E) Level Up Class Preview: Adept

I really got the feeling that Adept, with all of the specific flavor aspects turned into choices, makes for a REALLY good general light speedy combatant Class now if that's what you're building for, which just feels right.

Level Up (A5E) Level Up Class Preview: Adept

God o5e's Monk is such an insult to game design, which tracks given how much it was trying to go back to 3.5. Stunning Strike is hands down the most powerful ability they get, and anything else that uses Ki is, as far as effectiveness goes, incredibly niche at best. Meaning that Subclasses that...
