    Fighter Feature: Careful Attack

When you make your first attack on your turn, you can decide to attack defensively. Doing so gives you disadvantage on melee weapon attack rolls during this turn, but attack rolls against you have disadvantage until your next turn. I have a feeling this would be really powerful. What if...

D&D 5E (2014) What armor can druids wear? Is there a way to get a decent AC?

In AD&D 1e, Druids can't wear studded leather armor (because metal interferes with their magic, not for any religious reason). That's the most official answer you can get, because Gygax invented both of those things.

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Manticore

Whoa! I was expecting to be disappointed by the art (4e's Manticore art was awesome), but this looks really cool. The body is very convincing, and the face is creepy.

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Thri-Kreen

That's actually a really elegant solution. Multiattack: The thri-kreen attacks up to three times: once with its bite, then once with its claws or twice with a gythka or chatkcha.

D&D 5E (2014) Are we getting another Basic Rules Update?

As far as I know, they haven't said when it would come out. I'd expect it some time this month, since the DMG is almost finished.

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Thri-Kreen

That's one way. Another way would be to make the bite a recharge action. That way, it happens every once in a while no matter what weapon the Thri-kreen is using. It's justified in-world, too--it takes a while to secrete enough poison. The root of the problem is that weapon-using and...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

I'm actually really curious about orcs in 5e. What color are they? They did some minis a while ago, and they were blueish-gray. Magic: The Gathering is reintroducing orcs, and they're blueish-gray there too. The half-orc in the PHB is purple. Also, what's the deal with the various orc...

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Thri-Kreen

It really annoys me that the thri-kreen's natural claw+bite attack is so much more effective than the gythka. Why would they ever use this weapon? Even if the target is immune to poison, the claw+bite still deals the same damage as the gythka! Why didn't they invent a finesse weapon instead...

    D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian / Sorc with 28 AC !

In addition to the wording of each feature, the multiclassing rules explicitly state that these do not stack.

    D&D 5E (2014) MM Kraken Art Preivew

I like the basic design: I'm assuming the kraken mostly uses tentacles, while the rest of its body is underwater. So, someone witnessing a kraken attack would assume it's just a giant squid. That's kinda cool. And I'm sure there's a good reason why they decided to make the other half a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn and Tieflings, post-Sundering.

Two of the villains are, visually and mechanically, almost identical to dragonborn, but are called "half-dragons." Implying that this is the FR version of dragonborn. The first half-dragon is introduced thusly: "Although it is shaped roughly like a human, it is at least seven feet tall, its...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn and Tieflings, post-Sundering.

Hoard of the Dragon Queen strongly implies that there are no Dragonborn in the Forgotten Realms.

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Intellect Devourer

I'm already thinking up varieties to mess with other dump stats... Muscle Devourer (Str): A very long, thin worm; eats your muscles and wraps around all your bones, literally controlling your body like a puppet. Vitality Devourer (Con): Stops your heart and turns you into a zombie. Personality...

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Intellect Devourer

That quote at the top really bugs me. Mind Flayers talk to their vitcims? And make lame b-movie jokes?

    D&D 5E (2014) Morningstar: Age of Majesty; a campaign setting for 5e.

I don't know anything about the Morningstar setting, but I would like to second this. As a DM, I already have my own preference for HP systems, magic systems, etc. I'll use the mechanics that give me what I want mechanically, and I'll use the settings that give me what I want thematically. If a...

    D&D 5E (2014) CR for NPCs

There's no easy answer to that. A Wizard (cast highest level spell in round 1, die before round 2) would have a higher CR than a Fighter (make a basic weapon attack in round 1, die before round 2).

    D&D 5E (2014) Perception/Investigation/Medicine?

Perception: There is a dead horse with black arrows in it. (Automatic success, no need to roll) Investigation (or History, I guess): The arrows are of goblin-make. Medicine: The horse has been dead for a day.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen - a solid D effort.

It seems our values are so different that we can't have a useful conversation about this. Correct me if I'm wrong: To you, reading an adventure is a fun activity that you do in your spare time. To me, reading an adventure is a hassle that detracts from its usefulness as a tool to help me run a game.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen - a solid D effort.

It sticks around long enough to psychotically murder a bunch of guards who were doing no damage to it. Why wouldn't it toast the PCs with a single breath, then go home? Player characters always seem to know somehow, so it's fair to assume this badass 6th-level fighter knows. It doesn't say he...
