Dark Realms RPG 1 Million Book Give-away Kickstarter

Ryan, First off, I would like to disclaim my comments with the fact that I hope you are successful and I think it would be great if the hobby grew. I followed a banner ad to your Kickstarter. As a 33 year veteran of tabletop role playing games, an active member of my community, and a...

Which D&D edition do you *really* prefer?

I've played all of the editions of D&D in my 32 years of gaming and I can say I enjoyed them all. That being said 3.5 was like somebody scooped all of my thoughts about 2ed out of my brain and smeared them into a 3 book series. I'm not a big fan of HP and AC...but I like them in a high fantasy...

    [Game Design] Rule Book Organization

That's a serious game-style question that should be a part of your mission. How do you want this game played? Is it story intensive...meaning the GM really holds all of the card in terms of mechanics? Or is it leaning toward the empowerment of players...meaning transparency of action is...

This strip really makes me want to build a zombie trap in my game. Just a simple pit trap...but then, above the pit, is a room stuffed to the brim with zombies and a slow-opening trap door. When the first few start to fall it will probably kill the zombies...and deal a few points of blunt...

Guitar heads: shopping for a gift

You might want to consider a Marshal Acoustic amp if the kid is into the Big Band sound. I know it seems like a niche, but my bother-in-law swears by them and he has been teaching jazz guitar for 20 years. And just to give a nod to what you mentioned, I too heard that the Epiphone Dots, while...

Guitar heads: shopping for a gift

I would be inclined to still get him a beginner guitar unless you can spend 1500+. I'm an acoustic guy so I have no real experience with electric. But, if I were a gambling man....needed to stay under a grand and wanted an acoustic guitar that would be a lifetime guitar I would probably go for...

    RPG Bucket List

...I've lived in many places, have had several solid gaming groups and met a great deal of wonderful gamers. I have been kicking around the idea of renting a small conference room, some hotel rooms, and having a private Con. Invitation only. The brightest and best of my gaming past invited...

You might be a Fantasy Heartbreaker...

When you are genuinely disappointed that there are no stats for taste...you might be a fantasy heartbreaker.

Why are people not interested in RPG?

Not able to sit for hours playing a game. My wife can't stand to sit still and gets agitated even if a card game starts getting too long. Have trouble with immersion: I had one friend sit there bewildered that we were able to follow the game. She said "You guys really can imagine all this...

I sold mine with 450000km on it...my buddy said he thought he saw it on the road just two months ago. Don't hold your breath.

Pathfinder 1E Sticker shock, or Why Paizo and Other Online Vendors have sent me back to Mead

This is, seemingly, and concomitantly, the reason there are less--and the reason there should be more--brick&mortar stores. I mean really. $20 at 50 points is $10 assuming a 30% overhead of an approx average margin of 50 points puts us at a clear of $7 for a single transaction...undelivered...

To Kill or Not to Kill (PCs): That is the Question...

I tend to look at it more like playing music with friends. There is a give and take, there is an improvisation and there is a simulation; it depends on the feel of the game at the time. Certainly, things can go wrong--and will--but that is part of learning and growing as a gamemaster (and...

To Kill or Not to Kill (PCs): That is the Question...

This is a matter of scope and authority: I imagine people will choose the groups they are comfortable with. If democratic gaming floats your boat...by all means give it a go. My Awesome Meter has a discerning palette, is tempered by age, and informed by my friends at the table. People come...

To Kill or Not to Kill (PCs): That is the Question...

I think the disconnect here is really one of distrust rather than play style. Of course, I've been wrong before.

To Kill or Not to Kill (PCs): That is the Question...

I should also amend my previous post with: Sometimes the Awesome Meter demands a die to be tossed in the open, across the table, deliberately in front of the player whose character's life is on the line. Awesomeness cannot be contained by rules; but, rules can be used to create awesomeness.

To Kill or Not to Kill (PCs): That is the Question...

I have a finely tuned Awesome Meter. If the death will be more awesome than nearly dying: death it is. If the near-death experience is more awesome than the death: maimed cruelty it is. I don't let dogma stand in the way of my fun.

    Underground Resistance Campaign

I love this type of campaign. Years ago I had a renegade demon take over a large city. He then started shipping in more demons until the city was completely overrun. Enslaving the populous to build a huge obsidian tower, he was trying to move the entire city to hell through a massive...
