    March and Beyond Previews

What is up with that beholder? Did he take the brown acid? He's looking at the party like they're made of bees.

    PHB2 Excerpts - Frenzied Berzerker

Am I the only one who pictures Final Confrontation as a Big Ball of Violence?

    Dragon 372: Backdrop - Tarmalune

Okay, I just gotta ask...what the heck is up with Onster Glarrak? He gets like one line explaining who he is, and how he's just fat, ugly, and annoying, but a skilled orator. Then he gets an elite artillery statblock where he spits serpents and writhes away from all attacks? Did I miss something?

digital insider: Monk in PH3, playtest in May

I guess this confirms Ki for PHB3. Shadow has certainly gotten enough previews via Paragon Paths and EDs for it be a likely contender. And Psionics...well, psionics has enough fans that if it isn't in by PHB3, there will be blood. Oh well, elemental can wait 'till PHB4.

Dragon 372 - Ampersand: Summoning, Arcane Power Preview, and Mordain the Fleshweaver

It looks like the only one that can do it is the Planshifter Dimensional Cascade power. Starlock's Coldfire Vortex only does Cold OR Radian, not both. However, I believe it would work if you use one power that does cold and another that does radiant. So if your cleric does Radiant and then your...

Forked Thread: Preview: The Shaman, the first broken class.

The most important things preventing this are line of effect and range. It has a range 20, which is admittedly pretty long. However, it's not "I hang out at camp and send it over to the goblin village" long. Also, it requires line of effect, which means you have to have an unbroken line to it. A...

Forked Thread: Healing Surges: Let's see them in Action!

The anime One Piece has some excellent examples of healing surges in action. Best example: Luffy has gotten the high holy hell beat out of him by the villain. The villain has him at his mercy, and does a finishing blow so powerful it damages the wall 20 feet behind him. Then he just drops Luffy...

    Legacy of Acererak

My one quibble: They totally reversed the moil zombies. I'm normally not a stickler for sticking to the old editions, but they're supposed to be a subversion of the standard "kill it with fire!" paradigm players have. Using fire on them should make the situation worse, or at least not help you...

    My B&N has Open Grave...

I too am interested in the Rotvine Defiler. Noticed that was one of the only ones you did not address. Anything you can say about it?

How to narrate the immobilized condition

I think there's an important difference between "Immobilized" and "restrained" Restrained is like a worse immobilized. Tha DOES make you easier to hit (combat advantage), while Immobilized means you can't move from your current 5-ft square. 5 feet is a lot of space, so it may help if you...

Shouldn't Kaz the Betrayer have more actions?

In my experience, it's good to have some low level flunkies even with a "solo." They greatly add to the early stages of a solo encounter. Even look at his sample encounter. There's some nice synergy with his knights, as the dragonborn is able to provide bonuses to the lower level undead and give...

Open Grave: Japanese Poster at RPG.net has a Copy

I'm particularly curious what the Rotvine Defiler abomination is. The name reminds me of an old creation of mine I posted on the forum a while back (long since wiped), and I wonder if its design matches mine.

    Shadow power source in MotP

Along those lines, there's also a few in Martial Power. One Ranger path gives you a Primal power (thought it's just the utility, not all three powers).

    Shadow power source in MotP

I am surprised no one has noticed this yet. I was just flipping through my MotP, and the Shadow Captain stood out at me. It's a Warlord PP with the shadow power source! Unsurprisingly, it does necrotic damage. It also summons shadows and can steal your opponent's shadow, turning it into a minion...

    Dragon 370 - Invoker Preview

Given that Int is a key skill, I'm seeing a lot of them opting out of chain and going for hide instead. Which then gives you the archetype of the hide-wearing holy man, leaning on a staff, and inflicting horrible divine wrath on his enemies. Overall I get a very Old Testament vibe from them...

How did I not see a beholder?

Probably related to severe ADD, but first time I ever saw one of these, the gorilla made me lose count.

Dragon 370 - Riven Justice: The Mercykillers

I think most importantly, his description mirrors the 3e Aasimar from the Monster Manual. He even has the ridiculously droopy moustache!

    Lycanthropy

In a couple modules there are people who came under curses and become lycanthropes under certain circumstances. Those seem to be exceptions, though.

    Sacrifice to Caiphon - Overpowered?

The plural is not exclusionary in general english, so I took it to mean it works with any encounter power. He has no area powers, so it would be pointless otherwise.

    Sacrifice to Caiphon - Overpowered?

Our group warlock has it, and I will tell you how it is always used: "Diabolic grasp!" *rolls a 1* "$#@%!!!!!" "Sacrifice to Caiphon! Action point! Diabolic grasp AGAIN!" Not optimum use, but how it's always used.
