    Musical instruments

I suck at musical instruments in general, but I play a mean didgeridoo! (And by "mean" I mean that's it's pretty cruel to any bystanders when I do play it ;))

    May Mythological Monster Mayhem

I'd been pondering doing a write-up of Lange Wapper, a mythical figure from my own home country. (Encyclopedia Mythica is a *great* source for various obscure mythological creatures, by the way...) This guy would presumably be some sort of Fey with access to Enlarge and Reduce at will. Now if...

    Start an animated object thread!!!

As for your swarm... I *love* the flavor- great description! But the mechanics may need a little more work. First of all, I would strongly recommend you settle on a single size category. A mixed size is going to get way too confusing. I would probably go with size Tiny (size of a cat, rat or...

    Start an animated object thread!!!

Hi Cata, For another example of a construct swarm, have a look at the "Shawabti Swarm" in my contribution to Cooperative Dungeon IV - Tomb of Chaos. There's actually a party that's going through this adventure *right now* over on the Living EN World: E1: Tomb of Chaos [Judge: Patlin]. But...

The status of the Cooperative Dungeon Project?

der_kluge: nice map! We would *definitely* need to make a 5' grid version to print out. And shading the elevation (while still maintaining a clear grid) should be fairly easy. We can even jigger the cave boundary a little to make sure there's no "ambiguous" squares (i.e. each 5' square is...

The status of the Cooperative Dungeon Project?

Hey Trainz! Big THANK YOU to you and Mark for all the hard work you guys have put into this project! Too bad you can't keep going the way you were, but I totally understand the "life getting in the way" part. By the way, for those of you who didn't already know... there's a party going through...

Giant by Poll: Post-crash Poll #2: Armor

Yeah, but if you go for the grass-covered look, you can call it a "grassy knoll" :D DM: As you round the bend, you notice the path is blocked by a knoll. PC1: A gnoll? Come on, guys, we can take on a single gnoll. PC2: Hang on... is this one of your word games again? Do you mean a "knoll"...

Wait a minute... aren't those essentially the same thing? ;) :p

Please rate my first monster and say how i can improve it

Ftr is the common abbreviation for Fighter. Yes, I understand that it can take a while to get used to the jargon being thrown around, but taking your frustration out on those who are trying to help is rarely conducive to further assistance. ;) Regarding 1/2 damage versus no damage from...

Please rate my first monster and say how i can improve it

Regarding the hatch eggs "feat"... feats are typically something that a monster could acquire when advancing in levels, and is usually independent of creature species or type. If it's something they're born with, it should probably be a Special Ability. Unless you'd really like your Ftr4 Orcs to...

    Calculating XP drives me crazy

Eh, a negative level is far more severe punishment than a -1 Con. And who's to say you can't regain that Con loss through a quest too? Personally, I'd keep it permanent, occasional exceptions notwithstanding. (Especially after seeing how GRR Martin dealt with Raise Dead in A Storm of Swords ;))...

    Calculating XP drives me crazy

Sounds good so far, but I would prefer if it were a little more streamlined still. How about alternative "death penalties"? Maybe a permanent -1 Con when you die (or a -2 of any other stat of choice)?

    Creatures-By-Poll: Fey #5 (recovery effort)

Hmm... Give the bear form a breath weapon, but the humanoid form can cast Rainbow Pattern? That way the bear can be the "big smash" combat monster, whereas the humanoid form is more of a trickster fairy... [Edit: If we *do* decide to go with a "prismatic" effect for the breath weapon, I would...

    Creatures-By-Poll: Fey #5 (recovery effort)

I assume you're joking, right? ;) For a 16-18HD creature? :D I believe the lowest spells I had suggested originally were Ray of Exhaustion (Sor/Wiz3) and Enervation (Sor/Wiz 4). But something like a 6-7th level spell might be better balanced. Mass Inflict Moderate (cone-shaped) would fit. Or...

Good News and Bad News concerning the missing posts

Actually, typically it caches the last page as well (often links such as .../showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=155697"). Although those cached pages may have been updated by now, since Google has probably noticed that the content of the "last" page has changed...

    Creatures-By-Poll: Fey #5 (recovery effort)

Another issue to decide: what powers should the "old man" form have? Is this purely to ease communication with other humanoids (seems unlikely)? Does the fey have the same powers (and abilities, strength etc.) as in bear form? Or does the humanoid form have additional sorcerous powers, whereas...

    Creatures-By-Poll: Fey #5 (recovery effort)

Never liked Prismatic <anything>, personally. Too much having to look things up in a table. I'm still voting for Fear + Deathwatch + some form of necromantic (but non-evil) damage (all three at the same time). I think that would make for a very flavorful combination - you could literally be...

Giant by Poll: Post-crash Poll #2: Armor

Natural Armor only, unless we want to create a new "grass armor" category (big swathes of grass sod, essentially). Probably better to say that it has grass growing directly on its skin, and call it "natural armor" instead...

    Creatures-By-Poll: Fey #5 (recovery effort)

Hm... I definitely like the "guardian of the poles" idea better than the "guardian of the aurora", so I wouldn't want one to be presented as a false and the other as true. Presenting them as guardians of two seperate and unrelated things is confusing. Besides, the "guardians of the aurora"...
