The Hidden Costs of Game Mastering

I just took a month long break from GMing, first time in ages. Work necessitated it, but its been nice to get a break. I have found that while I greatly enjoy face to face gaming, the Roll20/Astral environments for GMing are stressful in ways that I am just getting tired of dealing with. Like...

RPG Print News – Kobold Press, EN Publishing, and More

For better or worse PF2E is sufficiently far from 3E that it would be more of a spiritual conversion, believe it or not. Even the PF1E to PF2E conversion advice in the new Gamemastery Guide advises to go with the spirit of the stat block over attempting a mechanical conversion. Honestly, its one...

Okay....that looks really intriguing. I may have to bite.

Worlds of Design: Games vs. Novels - Part 2

I feel that comparing PbtA games to D20 systems like D&D is a bit apples to oranges. Nothing you are doing in a PbtA game can't be done in D&D as a matter of narrative style and storytelling, but D&D does not impose mechanical restrictions to enforce a specific storytelling format. As a result...

RPG Print News – Kobold Press, EN Publishing, and More

I would have gone in on Ptolus if they had designed one for Pathfinder 2nd Edition. Unfortunately 3PP are wary of jumping on that boat when the low hanging fruit of 5E is easier to write for and has a well-established and huge audience. I'm probably going to pick up the Cypher edition at some...

Media [Chaosium] Chaosium's HeroQuest RPG titles to be permanently removed from sale next month; purchase while you can!

Runequest and Mythras are different game systems from Heroquest/Questworlds. It's just a bit confusing because both the current version of Runequest and Heroquest use Glorantha as a setting. So the only thing changing here is ownership of the rights to use the name Heroquest.

Dragonlance WotC Teases Possible Dragonlance Video Game

True, but it still counts. D&D official? No. D&D in style, thematics, feel, mechanics....yes (imho)

Dragonlance WotC Teases Possible Dragonlance Video Game

How so? I ask with the clarification that I have only seen the BGIII trailer (which looked pretty awesomely D&D with a thick coat of metal paint) ....but I don't know myself because I don't buy games in early development as a rule of thumb.

Dragonlance WotC Teases Possible Dragonlance Video Game

Dark Alliance is all my son can talk about since he saw the recent gameplay trailer, and suddenly he's asking me about D&D, that game he previously wanted nothing to do with because it's what "dad and his friends play," and he even was excited to discover that the characters have their own book...

RPG Print News – Legendary Games, Pelgrane Press, and More

That is interesting to know....I don't really know of any venues to communicate with FFG (I pretty much rely on ENWorld for all my gaming news and info these days) but it's good to know I'm not the only one who wishes this would happen.

RPG Print News – Legendary Games, Pelgrane Press, and More

Completely agree (thus why I can understand why they wouldn't do it). Frog God has always felt more like a group designing for what they like than for what is current, so that also weighs in a bit. Unfortunately I really love Pathfinder 2E so I can always hope someone will provide support. I am...

Shoot Mi-Gos Right in the Convoluted Ellipsoid in Pulp Cthulhu

That is vey true....BRP had Astounding Adventures, which I quite liked, and Pulp Cthulhu is essentially its successor, with the added effect of mythos plus higher profile (AA unfortunately didn't get a lot of attention).

I can understand why they wouldn't support PF2E, but if they ever start to then I will have reason to start collecting Frog God stuff again.

Shoot Mi-Gos Right in the Convoluted Ellipsoid in Pulp Cthulhu

Yes, I definitely do. Shooting mi-gos means you've probably already lost heh. Seriously though....I'm in the camp that feels that Pulp detracts from the classic feel (in fact I just finished a campaign in Pulp Cthulhu as a player and I did not really feel like I was playing CoC anymore....it...

Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft: An In-Depth Review

Can I say that in just a short paragraph or two they outline Klorr as the domain of pretty much everything that has come to pass in Ravenloft already and spun off into the darkness forgotten, a fascinating notion.

My Favorite Parts of Van Richten’s Guide To Ravenloft

Just like in original Ravenloft. --Though, I seem to recall in original Ravenloft it was possible sometimes with the right circumstances to take out a domain lord for a long time, or even permanently. There was a six part series of modules that led to major changes for this reason iirc.

My Favorite Parts of Van Richten’s Guide To Ravenloft

Somehow double posted! But I can use this to state that the new book is pretty nice. I am a long time fan of Ravenloft, but back in the 2E days I actually used the domains as actual realms in my home campaign to fill out unexplored zones that I didn't prep for otherwise. I could see this working...
