My Favorite Parts of Van Richten’s Guide To Ravenloft

Yeah I was gonna say, they actually seem more brutal and terrifying here due to the fact that you can't kill them. I seem to recall that was how it was before, too, though, so whadda I know.

D&D 5E (2024) bring back the pig faced orcs for 6th edition, change up hobgoblins & is there a history of the design change

It is a fair argument that if the orcs are portrayed as having a society, culture, children, etc. then at minimum the game ought to include some clarity on just why they are predominantly evil....I sometimes think certain cultures are "CE or LE" mostly because they by definition cannot get along...

D&D 5E (2024) bring back the pig faced orcs for 6th edition, change up hobgoblins & is there a history of the design change

Ehh maybe but I was introducing lawful and chaotic good orcs into my games in 1981 and yes that means I am godawfully oldish now (50). My point is that this concept does not strike me as new. Just rediscovered. In general, I think there's a lot of story potential around "evil race forged by...

    The Lost Art of Dungeon-Crawling

This is both a feature and a bug of dungeons, stemming from the old school approach. For many, the design intent is to lay out the pieces and then let things happen organically in play.....traditionally modules that provided too much outlined exposition tended to not fare as well as those which...

    The Lost Art of Dungeon-Crawling

D&D 3.5 back in the day had particularly clear (and over abundant) rules for dungeon delving. Pathfinder 2E has a really good section on this as well. That said, I actually think D&D 5E also handles it just fine, too, but maybe just a tad more loosely than its predecessors and competitors.

    The Lost Art of Dungeon-Crawling

This here. I think maybe some groups (such as the OP) may have moved away from it, but I actually have found myself leaning hard into dungeon type environments for the last year+ as they are easier to run on Roll20.

Alien & Fate Join ICv2's Top 5 RPGs

That is true, but what I meant was that the availability of options to play these games in VTT environments would drive physical book sales. My group, as an example purchased a lot of Alien books as a result of Roll20 offering support. I admit, I could be wrong, as for all I know VTT gamers...

Alien & Fate Join ICv2's Top 5 RPGs

I will also note that in at least the case with FATE and Alien, they both had a big push for VTT options in the last few months, making them accessible to the online gaming crowd when most needed. That probably helped a bit, too. Cyberpunk Red doesn't surprise me though because for one shining...

RPG Crowdfunding News – DEATH IN SPACE, Sin, AFFINITY, and more

This is an impressive new headcannon link between the two film franchises...I love it!

RPG Crowdfunding News – DEATH IN SPACE, Sin, AFFINITY, and more

Having recently rewatched 2001 for the first time in ages I can see the connection. It's existential horror tinged with a futurist's optimism. Alien is just existential horror with little to no optimism.....but both movies have a style and feel that is complimentary in distinct ways. (EDIT with...

RPG Crowdfunding News – DEATH IN SPACE, Sin, AFFINITY, and more

Death in Space is a no-brainer for me to back...and now it is backed! Side note: Tales of the Smoking Wyrm #3 is wrapping up in four days, DCC fans should take note.

Candlekeep Mysteries Review Round-Up – What the Critics Say

For the record I've rather enjoyed reading through this book, several of the modules stand out to me (but haven't run any yet so hard to comment on their actual versatility.) The missing alignment thing is a mild disappointment; I consider it a useful metric to help the DM but also admit it's...

    How Quickly Do You Read?

I have friends who rely heavily on audiobooks. Although I've listened to them occasionally on long trips I actually tend to tune out audiobooks and lose track quickly, or find I am annoyed with the style or tone of the reader, and as a result just can't get anything out of them. I do much better...

    How Quickly Do You Read?

I get more reading done in the Summer because I go outside with a good book while the rest of the clan is fishing or whatever. But then I get more reading done in the winter when everyone's shut in and it's cold out so I have a book to read in front of the fireplace. The real contest for my time...

    How Quickly Do You Read?

It would take about 8-9 hours to finish 500 pages for me, but with the full time schedule and family commitments I have I'd manage about 1 hour a night over 8-9 days to plow through it, which is pretty much my standard speed (Dad's reading hour is around 10-11ish each night).

    Pathfinder 2E PF2E like D&D 4e?

For what it's worth, the top reason I like PF2E as a GM is because its monster statblock design is eerily similar to 4E's method of monster design, which I loved.

Pathfinder 2E Is It Time for PF2 "Essentials"?

My understanding is it has all errata through around October/November of last year as it was reprinted and released mid December. I am not sure where the stuff you refer to falls in to the mix, but if that was a change made after December then its probably not in there. This link might help...

Pathfinder 2E Is It Time for PF2 "Essentials"?

The Pocket Edition of the Core Rules is the 2nd printing and has the first round of errata in it, yes. PF2E does not need an Essentials edition. That was a fairly unique scenario with 4E which was a hard fix for a system that uniquely commanded it.

    Marvel vs DC

This is why I also intensely disliked that movie (plus the overly long, panic-inducing fight scenes).
