[UPDATED] MCG Has A New Kickstarter Coming

It's no longer once a year that MCG runs a big Kickstarter. This will be their fourth in the past 16 months. I'm not faulting them for doing it; clearly this model has been very successful for them. Here are the launch dates of their recent Kickstarters: Numenera (8/9/2012) The Strange...

    HEROLAB'S 5E Update Is Here!

I'm okay with the price; I'd be happy to pay the price if it included all the options from the PHB. Only having the SRD content is a deal-breaker for me. I've been creating 5E characters using editable PDFs, and it is sooooo easy. I'm going to stick with that method for now.

    Why OD&D Is Still Relevant

I bought the reprinted OD&D books a couple of years ago, and they are indeed a mess. As someone who doesn't own the Chainmail rules, I don't think I would even be able to run OD&D just from what is in those three booklets. It's not a complete game.

CURSE OF STRAHD: Here's The Official Announcement & Cover Image!

Expedition is actually 224 pages. (I just checked.) I'm looking forward to Curse of Strahd, and I hope they manage to give everything a fresh spin. I also hope that the next adventure is something totally new. As much as I like revisiting the classics, it's time for some new classics.

HeroLab and Realmworks Support for D&D 5E? An Imminent 5th Edition SRD?

Yes, I hope that we can eventually get some character creation software that includes all the available options. 5E is simple enough that such software isn't as essential as it is for Pathfinder, but it would be really annoying to have software that only includes a fraction of the legal...

HeroLab and Realmworks Support for D&D 5E? An Imminent 5th Edition SRD?

There is an updated SRD-OGL document up at Wizards' website now. http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/systems-reference-document-srd

Check Out This Preview Of The 13th AGE GM Screen & Resource Book

Sounds very useful. I will pick it up. I just wish the screen was landscape rather than portrait.

How 3D Printing is Upending the Miniature Industry

No mention of the miniatures currently being produced by WizKids for D&D and Pathfinder? Seems like the author is selectively picking and choosing data to support his premise. Wizards of the Coast is technically out of the miniatures business, but they have a deal with WizKids to produce D&D...

[UPDATED] Out of the Abyss Reviews Have Started Rolling In

You know, there's another large RPG publisher that I buy a lot of books from, and each time I buy a hard copy of a book I get a free PDF of the book. In a perfect world, I'd like to see WotC find a way to do something like that.

[UPDATED] Out of the Abyss Reviews Have Started Rolling In

On the topic of how the hardcovers are organized, I've been running Hoard of the Dragon Queen, and I copy all the stat blocks to 3x5 cards before each session. This significantly reduces page-flipping. Wizards should let Gale Force 9 put out a pack of monster cards so that I don't have to do...

Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

Sounds like we are in the same position. I've played lots and lots of Pathfinder, but I am at a point now where I appreciate the relative simplicity of 5E or even Dungeon World. I'm running some 13th Age and Dungeon Crawl Classics as well.

Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

I supported both Kickstarters, but never had an interest in playing the game. In the second Kickstarter I got a nice Emerald Spire Superdungeon hardcover book, some cool miniatures, a Pathfinder Tales paperback, and a bunch of Flip-Mats to go along with the Superdungeon. So, I am happy with what...

    The Geekification of Everything?

You're thinking of Cline's dreadful second book, Armada. ;-)

Quests of Doom 2: Six New 5E Adventures from the Necromancers!

I think it would have been less confusing if they had called the new book Quests of Doom, Volume 3 to distinguish it from Quests of Doom, Volume 2. Having two distinct products, one called Quests of Doom 2 and one called Quests of Doom, Volume 2 is just inviting misunderstandings.

Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide: The First Official D&D 5E Setting

Exactly what I was thinking. The core books (MM, PHB, DMG) were spread out over three years (1977-1979), and for several years after there was only one new hardcover book per year. I do miss the days when TSR was putting out lots of new modules, but it seems like modules don't sell well these...

[UPDATED] A Savage D&D 5E Campaign Setting From the Makers of PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE

Just because they were contracted to produce an adventure for WotC doesn't mean they have permission to produce whatever 5E material they want going forward.

Rodney Thompson Leaves Wizards of the Coast

I went to a couple of the panels he did at Origins over the past couple of years (Lords of Waterdeep and D&D 5E). He was 50% of the public face of D&D 5E. Seems like a big loss for Wizards.

FANTASY GROUNDS Virtual Tabletop's D&D License!

That's fair, I guess, but as a DM I can't imagine buying just buying "Constructs and Elementals" or "Celestials and Fiends." I mean, does anyone run a campaign where the characters only fight a single type of monster?

[UPDATED AGAIN!] PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE - First Review!

I enjoy everything from the old TSR modules to the current Pathfinder Adventure Paths, but I think this particular adventure sounds boring. It's got four dungeons that (going from this review) are all essentially the same. Also, element-based foes are just by nature less interesting than...

At Least 4 Months For Conversion Documents

It's funny how often you have an article about something around the same time that I was thinking about it! I'm getting ready to run the Night Below campaign and part of Age of Worms using 5e, so I'd love to have the conversion guides. A lot of the Night Below creatures are in the 5e Monster...
