D&D 4E Directly from a quote- 8 classes in 4e! (well, now subject to much debate)

Warlord has been mentioned by James Wyatt and claims to fulfill the same niche as the Paladin and the Fighter. Perhaps not 1st-level Warlords but we've certainly heard of 1st-level Bards, so that might be a niche that Warlord might be fulfilling (that or the Marshal). You said it yourself, some...

    D&D 4E I'm NOT upset about 4E

I'm not upset because while I have nearly every non-setting supplement WotC has released, I know the game can be better. And recently there's been lots of innovations like swift/immediate actions, reserve feats, Book of Nine Swords, Magic Item Compedium, new stat block, etc. so that they'll...

Most damage 5th level caster can do with a Fireball

If I remember correctly (5th-level PC gold), it's 9,000 gp. Lesser metamagic rod is 9,000 gp, so yes if your Wizard is naked and doesn't own a spellbook.

"How to make a Monster Manual Pt II" article

Felon: I think anyone when talking about a particular subject should have a thesis and in this case, that thesis is the D&D is combat. That's not to say that all D&D players will be combat oriented but you need to take a stance when talking about a certain point (and D&D is a game system that...

Most damage 5th level caster can do with a Fireball

Aside from Bloodline of Fire, other Forgotten Realms feats like Spell Thematics also bump up the caster level. Bloodline of Fire + Spell Thematics + Fiery Burst = 9th-caster level. As for magic items, right now off the top of my head there's none that you can afford to boost your CL.

Game design that I'm surprised didn't make it into more books

Because for some, it's a feature, not a flaw. =) But honestly, while I think you can make a complex game yet giving it low prep time, there's definitely more flexibility in a game that has longer prep time (if done correctly--bad game design can still lead to long prep time games yet still a...

Game design that I'm surprised didn't make it into more books

You ditch the magic items, you ditch the spells, and you ditch skill points (just pick X number of skills and that's it). Saves also are simplified (equal to your level, plus some other bonuses, no more complex save computations for multiclassing). Basically what you're left is picking your...

Free RPG Day - good idea, or bad?

Not necessarily their fault, especially if Free RPG Day branches out to other areas. Free RPG Day might be free for consumers but that's not necessarily the case for retailers. They still have to pay for shipping for one thing. I knew a comic retailer who was participating in Free Comic Book Day...

Spellless paladins and rangers. Bonus feats worth giving up spellcasting?

It's just another option. Of course the problem I had with the CW spell-less Paladins/Rangers is that they're swapping out access to spells for spell-like abilities. "Gee, I'm not really casting magic!"

Spellless paladins and rangers. Bonus feats worth giving up spellcasting?

To use them when you're wearing Medium or Heavy Armor (or load heavier than light). But at that point your Weapon Style becomes redundant.

Spellless paladins and rangers. Bonus feats worth giving up spellcasting?

It might be worth giving up depending on what you roll for ability scores. I mean the Paladin needs a bunch of good stats as it is. Forgetting about Wisdom (or at least settling for a 10) in favor of Str, Con, and Cha is okay.

Complex underpowered magic items in Magic Item Compendium

Clarification: Relics work as is as long as you're within one step of the deity's alignment (you don't even need to worship them). It's the deity-specific special ability that you need to worship the appropriate deity and have either the spell slot or feat to qualify for it. As for item levels...

Complex underpowered magic items in Magic Item Compendium

Re: Augment Crystals At first glance, they do seem powerful for their costs and the fact that they're interchangeable. Here's some notes I have on them though: 1) If they're cheap, they were designed that way. If you listened to the recent Podcast interview (which does cover IMC), augment...

Experiences with Psionics in 3rd (and 3.5) Edition

3.0 Psionics Handbook watch out mainly for the elaborate Psionic Combat Modes, especially Mind Blast (+8 to DC if I remember correctly to flat-footed non-Psionic characters). Expanded Psionics Handbook a great accessory =) As Merric said though, if you're just having 1 encounter/day, psionic...

Mouseferatu unable to get to EN World?

I suggested to Mouseferatu to try switching DNS (http://www.opendns.com) but it doesn't work so it's probably a problem with his IP address being blocked (since he can access the site from his mother's computer/house).

Ravenloft: Dominion - aka Ravenloft novels outside Ravenloft

Hope Ari doesn't mind me cutting and pasting some of the inquiries regarding the novel: The Monkey King: Oh, that sounds a-MAZ-ing! Congrats on such a fun premise and period. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Given the amount of AQ I wrote, though, you'll have to forgive me if I cheer a...

Ravenloft: Dominion - aka Ravenloft novels outside Ravenloft

From Ari's livejournal post, he couldn't access EnWorld for the past week. So until that's resolved, we won't be hearing from hin anytime soon (hopefully I'm wrong!). He replies to inquiries at his lj: http://mouseferatu.livejournal.com/473545.html

Enough with the PDF table of contents already!

    1) The text is barely readable. In my computer screen, I can read it, yes, but with difficulty. A PDF lets me zoom in/out without degradation of quality (unlike jpegs which gets pixelized). 2) Content size (i.e. lots of text vs little text) is irrelevant when it comes to file sizes -- it's the...

Enough with the PDF table of contents already!

There's a difference between a 9 x 11 inch (my estimates) book and a 1200 pixel screen. The former will take up more space than what you just did. Of course having said that, it's by my estimate you can keep the file under 1 MB if the resolution is around 100 dpi. But my issue is that you still...

Enough with the PDF table of contents already!

Yes, that's true. The only other way to show the table of contents (complete with layout) is to convert the pdf file into a JPG, although for the text to be readable, this would need to be a huge jpg (in terms of occupying space in your monitor).
