Heroes of Shadow Table of Contents

Those all seem like they are easy to be Essential-free. Actually, the Essential books have so far only had 1 paragon path for each "class", and a single Epic Destiny for the book, so multiple options for each is a pre-Essential idea. And races were already getting 2 options for their second +2...

Heroes of Shadow Table of Contents

Basically, with the Heroes books they were taking the most popular/core classes and doing them again. So the issue becomes, how do you take the MOST supported classes and not only do something that is new, that is playable on it's own AND with the old stuff, and that isn't overly complicated...

Opinions wanted: is 'Master at Arms' an expertise feat?

The 'technical' part was, 15 from half level, 6 from magic items, 4 from stat boosts (assuming all 6, plus the 2 automatic all stats, are added to the attack stat) only adds up to 25 over the course of the game, while monsters do scale a +1 per level. So, you fall behind as you level. And yes...

Heroes of Shadow Table of Contents

Stuff in arcane power, martial power 1 and 2, divine power and primal power: See A and C with absolutely no B. Also, all books and Dragon magazine articles prior to the two Heroes of X books. Nothing but A and C. So, your argument is basically, the BEST supported classes in the game...

    2/7 DDI Update

Executioner thing is a mega bummer. So after the playtest article, and the accidental early posted article and the 'final' article, it's still not going into the CB until it gets the full book treatment ... thus making irrelevant what little of the constantly shrinking article content that is of...

    Essentials Swashbuckling Slayer

For a rapier wielding rogue, Flash of the Blade allows you to use your sneak attack just by being the only person engaging someone. Seems like a good way to make it less sneaky and more duelist.

    Essentials (Comments)

I don't think it was necesarily a matter of "cannot move in plate armor" as "having fallen off the horse, they've have injured themselves in such a way that, while not lethal, makes it difficult, if not impossible, to move out of the way of immediate danger like a foot of water".

Why are single target powers stated as Close Burst?

Except of course: (a) The powers that do use attack rolls are already using close burst instead of ranged non-provoking, so invoking the latter is being inconsistent with other existing powers (b) Close burst already exists. Ranged non-provoking is an exception. Creating something knew and...

Will 2011 be the last year of Wizards D&D?

Does it even include any information on Magic in that analysis? It would probably be better to analyze DnD's place within Wizards more so than Hasbro as a whole, since odds are that Wizards as a whole is only a small part of Hasbro's line. And if nothing else, MTG's IP is arguably not as strong...

Heroes of Shadow: Assassins, Hexblades, and Necromancers!

Considering that the Essential assassin is martial/shadow, and the ranger is martial/primal, it's quite possible that some of the new builds (like blackguard) will be hybrid classes as well (divine/shadow) while the new schools, being "inside" the Mage build would likely just be shadow flavored...

The Essentials Thief: Escaping from Light Blade Hell

Also, one particular build I've been meaning to make when I get the chance: the multiclass spiked chain feat which allows you to use a spiked chain as a dual weapon that counts as light blades. It is the 'best' light blade you can get (2d4 is slightly better than the 1d8 from the rapier, it has...

Heroes of Shadow: Assassins, Hexblades, and Necromancers!

Technically speaking: Nethemancy and Necromancy are schools, which means they will be part of the Mage build (i.e., the Essential wizard). Outside of some examples, which appear to replace powers with class features (like the spoiled summons), most of the powers will have the keywords which...

Suggestions on How to Handle Staggered XP Progression

Ultimately, the XP here ties to how succesful and/or thorough they were in completing the area during each "delve", before fastforwarding to when they return at a higher level. While the XP they "missed" could be reflected in them being slightly behind. (i.e. for each encounter they failed or...

    D&D 5E (2014) Whens the next update out ....

The last rules update was for October (a small one), and there were also two rules updates that were listed as "Changes coming with Essenials". The first, as well as the October update, are already in the compiled rules update: Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article...

    New products?

They are pretty much keeping up with most of the pillars, just avoiding the numbers. They seem to be doing more Monster Vaults, which are basically Monster Manuals + Tokens. They are doing a new Adventurer's Vault under a new name. Now I'm not sure if the various player's options books like...

    D&D 5E (2014) Whens the next update out ....

They've stopped doing the 'old style'. There isn't 'player's handbook 4' or 'adventurer's vault 3' coming out, etc. The Monster Manuals seem to be going the route of Monster Vault: Subtitle. They come in a box with tokens, thus the 'vault' concept, I guess. There is a new item book coming in...

    DDI VT Beta thread

Just got my invite recently too. Haven't mucked about too much because of finals, and I'll be heading home and stuck with pretty much just an iPad over Xmas. Hopefully I can try a bit more stuff out in the new year, until then it will be mostly messing about with encounter planning for my Dark...

More Classes Essentialized or more support for current classes?

It contains an entirely new build for the Paladin. Whether or not that is 'Essential' or 'Classic', it's a new build, not a direct addition to the Essential books. Now, it may end up being very similar to the Essential builds, and not provide as much classic support as it would (i.e. it may not...

More Classes Essentialized or more support for current classes?

New Essential based content provides: Feats. Unless the feats are reprints, they are generally usable by any character, old or new. (So far anyway. Some of the stuff from Dragon isn't necessarily usable by everyone as it is more specific to Essentials in some ways). Since the classes use the...

What New Essentials Builds Do You Want To See?

Stuff I'd like to see get Essential treatment: Warlord and the Bard. A few more leaders would work well, and the 'focus' of Essential builds tends to make most leaders into melee characters, and both can do that, especially the warlord. Also, it opens up more possibilities for Essentials +...
