    level adjustment buy off

Level Adjust isn't a penalty; it's a tool to make sure that your PC is facing enemies appropriate for your power level. Even if you could buy it off, you'd be disrupting the power balance of the game and diminishing it for you, the DM, and your fellow players. LA is there to help you, not hold...

D&D 5E (2014) I think we can safely say that 5E is a success, but will it lead to a new Golden Era?

Yeah, just reading the opening statement and the closing statement tell me that guy's a total geek. B-)

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Darvus Andar, Paladin of Helerion Darvus gasps in horror as the dwarf runs by him towards the entrance. "Oh gods," he says as he looks helplessly at his compatriots. "The die is cast." He draws his sword and chases after the dwarf. LOL, if we charge into an empty fort I'm going to feel like...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM screen?

Hey guys, I'm looking for a DM screen. Is there one publicly available? I know there is this one, but it was last updated in June. Is it still current for the PHB release?

D&D versus social anxiety disorder (updated 8/20/14)

Update 8/20/14 Wow, has it really been 6 years since I posted this? I'd like to thank EnWorld, and especially the posters in the thread, only a handful of whom do I still see posting on a frequent basis. The advice I got from this thread not only helped me avoid some serious pitfalls, but set...

Would a typical D&D town allow adventurers to walk around?

It doesn't necessarily have to be this way. I like the trappings of historicity because then most of the "world building" is done for me. I justify it in the face of magic by simply saying that magic, like any other power in medieval times, is aggregated and concentrated by the powerful elite...

Would a typical D&D town allow adventurers to walk around?

It depends on whether we're talking about medieval or renaissance societies. In a renaissance-era town, all men of age are in the militia, excepting very few, and each provided his own weapons. A traveling band entering town with weapons is simply not a big deal. In medieval times, all men...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Flumph!

I think we may be watching a mental breakdown in progress. Does anyone know Patrick McGill IRL that can check and make sure he's ok? :p

Would a typical D&D town allow adventurers to walk around?

Adventure hook: "WANTED -- Adventurers to rid our town of adventurers we hired to get rid of some other adventurers. No bounty, but you can keep their stuff."

D&D 5E (2014) Elemental weapon... Paladin only, goes up to 7th level?

I presume because they have higher Charisma? But they make up for it with a lack of Str.

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladin Over Powered?

I don't believe this is correct. "When you score a critical hit, you get to roll extra dice for the attack's damage against the target. Roll all of the attack's damage dice twice and add them together. Then add any relevant modifiers as normal." You don't double anything except the number of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Minor rant - y'ever just hate your players' characters?

OMG. You just solved my player dilemma. I have a couple crazy-go-nuts players and the rest are so death-averse that I was once warned that I "better not" kill his wife's character. It's no fun DM'ing in this environment because I can't cut loose and really be a RBDM. This is the solution I have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladin Over Powered?

I'm not sure, but I hope not. The ability that adds your Cha bonus to hit is expended on a miss, I know that.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's your preferred "Splat Frequency"?

It's my opinion that future crunch should be in addendum to fluff products like setting books, AP's, manual of the planes, deity books, etc.

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladin Over Powered?

And unlike the fighter, he only ever gets the two attacks, so they gotta count.

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Darvus Andar, Paladin of Helerion Darvus eyes the fort suspiciously. He asks, "Are we sure the skeletons are even animated?" He turns and regards the group and says, "There are wide expanses of wall with smaller gaps in them. We should have our sneakiest approach one and spy inside." Darvus...

D&D 5E (2014) I think we can safely say that 5E is a success, but will it lead to a new Golden Era?

I'll be honest, I never really looked at Essentials; I only ever played one character in 4E because our campaign lasted that long. I recall playing a side campaign for a couple months using Essentials, and while the increase in at-wills and encounter powers was nice, the classes felt less...

D&D 5E (2014) I think we can safely say that 5E is a success, but will it lead to a new Golden Era?

Well, no. But that has nothing to do with the AEDU structure because it could easily have been supported if WotC so wished. WHY they did not so wish is completely beyond me. They added the ability to play a paladin with nothing but ranged blasty magic but no bows for fighters. /boggle
