Group Dynamics for Choosing the Game You Play - How does your group do it?

After one game ends, someone says, "Hey, I have a game I want to run, anyone mind if we play X?" Generally, no one minds, so we then play X. Over the last year, I've played 4E, 3.5, Deadlands: HoE, Star Wars d6, Vampire, Werewolf: TA, and GURPS (set in 1930s). In the future once I'm done...

The Second Age [4e PoL campaign]

Jack, are you using one weird res per player, or just one per campaign? I know as a player, especially in a campaign that has seen so much death already, I'd be a little miffed if someone blew the parties only res on a 4th level character.

101 ways to increase the MMO experience in 4th edition

    83. Fire (green fire, blue fire, red fire, etc) is the single most deadly aspect of the game during boss fights. 84. If you die in said fire instead of moving out of it, you must scream at the cleric, "WTF man, why I get no heals?" 85. It's cool though, 'cause in the next book, Clerics will...

The ENWorld Gamer: What Kind of Gamer Are You?

Board Game: Clue, Life, Stratego Card Games: Poker Computer games: Civ IV, WoW, Dragon Age, chess, hearts Tabletop RPG: Star Wars d6, Werewolf: TA. Video Games: GTA IV, Guitar Hero/Rockband, Madden, Assassin's Creed II

    Do you "save" the PCs?

It really depends on the situation. In the situation you described, I'm more prone to letting the characters twist in the wind. If I screwed it up somehow (overmatched, gave them some bad info accidently, etc), then I have no problems saving the PCs somehow.

Healing Word Question (Completely new player)

The answer is A in your situation. For the second part, once you are out of surges, you can't spend surges, and thus would be an invalid target for a healing word (but you could gain temp hp's or hps from powers that grant hps).

    Ignore lists

I don't use ignore lists, since I can just stop reading if someone says something stupid. I don't believe I'm on anyone's ignore list, but there's always a chance.

Origins Awards 2010 Nominations - Discuss!

It pains me to say I understand why the big RPG companies are backing out of Origins. Attendance has noticably declined over the past few years (I have gone to every Origins since 2004, minus last year because I went to my first Gen Con). Honestly, I saw the writing on the wall when WoTC...

Purple Index Cards: On-the-Fly Setting and Plot Collaboration

I'm still working out new ones, but here are a few I made for the first game session I used them. Mind you, some of it is really setting specific. Hey, look over there! Reveal this card when you are tying to escape. Narrate some event that allows you escape unharmed. The GM may reward you...

Purple Index Cards: On-the-Fly Setting and Plot Collaboration

I'd just like to say this is the best idea I've ever stolen from anyone. I'm running Star Wars d6 and have modified and added some of my own, but I'm confident when I run DnD (or really, almost any game) I'll be using these cards. Awesome Idea.

Dwarf vs Elf (wood)! RM:UT Semifinal!

My first character ever was a Dog Boy (Rifts), so I'm voting for them.

The Second Age [4e PoL campaign]

I would never dream of giving my group 10k gps for a delivery at 3rd level; they'd agree to the deal and never return while laughing up what luck they just stumbled into. A band of rogues, I tell ya.

Important: Please Read! Changes Are Coming!

My mother always told me that if I had nothing good to say to someone, I should keep my mouth shut. I'll have to defer to her wisdom in this case.

What D&Disms have you never liked?

Disposable weapons/armor have always bothered me more than anything else. IMNC, I'm going to try out the inherent bonus system to see how that works. Other DnDisms I could live without: Racial limitations on level caps (pre 3E) and favorite class (3E). Paladins pre 4E. Gods as just...

What are you playing that is NOT D&D?

In the last year, I've played: Deadlands: HoE, Vampire:TM, GURPS (in a Hanger 13 style campaign), Werewolf:TA, Star Wars d6, Call of Cthulu, and Ghostbusters. Most were short ideas people wanted to play out, with the exception that the Deadlands game was suppossed to last a full year, but a...

    Where do you buy books?

I'm lucky in that I have a great FLGS that I buy nearly 100% of my gaming books from, The Guardtower. It's about a 30 minute drive one way from where I live, but worth it IMO.

    Are you a fudging fudger?

I voted for option one because sometimes I make mistakes, and I don't want to restart a campaign over something I screwed up.

What do you get out of signatures?

My .sig is to remind me to enjoy the simple things in life and not to lose perspective on what is important.

What Do You Carry to a Game?

It really depends on what game I'm playing and if I'm running the game or not. I always bring a notebook, pencils, and my box of dice with me. If we're playing a game I own, I bring the main rulebooks, plus whatever supplements I may have used in making the character, plus whatever...

Dear 4e, Please Stop with the Horrible Portmanteaus!

While some names in 4E I find silly (Feywild, Shadowfell, etc), I actually really like Vicejaw Crocodiles. Languages are a funny thing, what sounds cool to some people sounds lame to others.
