Good luck, friend. A suggestion - if you're worried about zeroing in on one game, try to make sure you're playing several systems. I'd recommend Paranoia, just because it prevents you from taking it seriously. ...on the other hand, I'd recommend Paranoia to ANYONE, so don't neccessarily listen...

There's Ravenloft, if that floats your boat. Also, for a grim'n'gritty setting, the Black Company setting is pretty nifty. The first simple mass-combat rules I've seen, in any system!

You might wnat to check on the Birthright setting for AD&D. I don't know how good it was, but a large part of it was focused on the PCs ruling their own realms.

I don't require training because as the DM, I know I'd forget about it. Otherwise, I can see the benefit of having training rules in place (hey, you're forced to actually *interact* with NPCs!). It's also a way to burn off extra income you gave the PCs.

I don't have that much money to spend on minis, and if I did, I'd frankly spend it on Warhammer or something, where the figures can get double use. On the other hand, though...I can just imagine the DM who buys this in secret, and then plops it down on the table when the PCs aren't expecting...

You're not a bad DM if you're keeping the BBEG in reasonable doses while hitting the party with everything you've got. A party of first level characters fighting a troll BBEG? I can see that. But if you make the same BBEG an elder orb beholder, that's kinda different, y'know?

Can someone explain what sort of things would need to be converted from a Castles & Crusades module to an AD&D module (and vice versa)? I'm seriously thinking about buying a copy, buuuut my FLGS doesn't have any, so I can't look through and decide whether or not it would be a worthwhile...
