The Current State of "Simple d20"?

BESM d20 has a great fast system... I think with charts and pictures the mechanics are like 10 pages. Character generation is where BESM d20 really is customizable. You can point buy characters or drop in normal d20 classes or use the points to try to create your own BESM d20 balanced classes...

[SC2.0] What classes are fantasy appropriate

Change Notes: 1. I won't be using the gear system. Most likely a normal monetary system. So Gear would need to be dropped on each class or changed into something else. 2. Proficiencies would have to work a little different or clases have fewer. Taking out technological weapons really cuts...

[SC2.0] What classes are fantasy appropriate

I'd be interested. Hell I'm interested in GT 1.0, I just don't have any way to check it out. IMO, Talants were pretty weak sauce in d20M. I don't know if GT made it worth while or not. It's just as easy to make all the class abilities into feats and assign them to the appropriate categories...

    sorcerers

I just checked on d20SRD.org about the Sorcerer's spell progression... I don't know why, I thought they didn't get higher level spells. They actually end up with more casting slots for every level, they're just generally a little delayed in getting access to a level and the number of known...

It didn't look like he was being rude, just making a joke about the l33t speak by using another l33t term and a smily.

    It's a Wand! It's a Crossbow Bolt! It's a Floor Wax!

yes I know. Once Borlon specifically mentioned what "specific numbers" were being talked about, I understood.

    sorcerers

This is the balancing factor between the Wizard & Sorcerer and obviously your preference. The Wizards get higher level spells, they're able to learn more spells in general, but their casting slots are spread thinner. Most definately if a wizard had a day to prepare for a specific situation...

    It's a Wand! It's a Crossbow Bolt! It's a Floor Wax!

Oh, Cam just wasn't entirely clear in his/her statement. Looks like Cam is saying that it's more likely to get a 1 than any other specific number on the first roll. What Cam meant was that the chances of rolling a 1 on specific successive die rolls is less than on the first. I'm not saying I...

    It's a Wand! It's a Crossbow Bolt! It's a Floor Wax!

I kneel before your superior math skills ::kneels:: This I don't get. It should be the same percent chance to get any single number on a single roll. The only time I've heard differently is for computer die rollers because of how they roll and round numbers. How is a 1 more likely to...

    sorcerers

I think they're greatly more powerful than Wizards, but in a different way. Wizards have raw power... higher level spells, and just more spells in general. There are spells I won't try to learn because they're too specific... and if I knew them I wouldn't memorize them as utility because I'd...

[SC2.0] What classes are fantasy appropriate

D&D is lacking quite a bit. If you don't want to play a magic user, that pretty much leaves a fighter & Rogue to cover people who are good at charming people, trickery, learning things and even then the feats suck so bad in D&D it's pretty sad trying to accomplish this. d20 Modern does a much...

[SC2.0] What classes are fantasy appropriate

I want to build a set of fantasy appropriate characters including types from SC2.0. I'd say to just add them to D&D, but that wouldn't mix well. My reasoning is that D&D has some pretty wide open holes, primarily because of it's focus on combat pretty much to the exclusion of all else. The...

It's l33t speak for Daywalker - like Blade; A half-vampire who can stand sunlight. It would be funny if he/she got the nickname Daywanker because of this question though :)

AD&D 1E The reasons to keep the rules 1e

It's great to play 1e if you don't want to develop a character mechanically. Ability Scores aside, all of the characters of a class are the same. It opens up avenues to roleplay. Of course that's also a reason not to stay with 3e for the same reason that 3e opens up avenues to roleplay...

    It's a Wand! It's a Crossbow Bolt! It's a Floor Wax!

I gotcha. I thought that was a chart for rolling a 1 on Nth sided die. It's the percentage of rolling a 1 on Nth roll. My bad. ::hides in a ball of shame::

    It's a Wand! It's a Crossbow Bolt! It's a Floor Wax!

Something isn't right here. Rolling a 1 on a 1 sided die (a ball?) should be 100%. Rolling a 1 on a 2 sided die should be 50%. Did you include a 0 on the sides (so 1 is really 0 & 1) or round funnily?

[Artificer] UMD with multiple spells on the same scroll & when to make the roll

Ahh... I'm used to people just saying "official", Canon or an abbrebiation of the book if it's a reference. Just never came across RAW before Enworld :)

    It's a Wand! It's a Crossbow Bolt! It's a Floor Wax!

Yeah, I think that's part of the appeal of the Sigma's method. There is a more difined downward spiral... you know it's lessening in power - and because of these steps it's fairly easy to steadily decline. True it's not as abrupt. with your method it could be working fine for a year then go...

    new PC

I'd go with an Artificer if the GM is cool with making magic items. Making magic items for everyone and they have a pretty decent support role and medium attack progression. They won't shine in the front line without some enhancements or items, but they can do both. Other than that, maybe a...

    Scaling Encounters

What, it took 3.x writing that they care about balance for GMs to run that way? I can't compare the balance in adventures as D&D only has a handful of 3.x adventures and I own none. The 3rd party d20 adventures arn't terribly better/worse than 2e 3.x isn't any more balanced than any other game...
