D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

I've seen people mentioning that they have excess gold in 5e, largely because magic items aren't generally available to purchase. So the question is, where are you going to spend all that cash? - purchase a flock of sheep to herd through the dungeon ahead of you. They'll set off traps, and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Request for Venger - 5e style

Cool fact: Plane Sailing here at ENW actually created the shadow demon in the original Fiend Folio. I am delighted every time I see the show.

    D&D 5E (2014) Likes and Dislikes?

Random commentary: Remember that players can do cool stuff with ability checks, and it's up to you as to whether the Proficiency bonus (or a skill bonus) apply. For instance, we've recently had... - someone loop their silk rope through a minotaur's nose ring, drag him through a grease spell...

D&D 5E (2014) Death Domain and Oathbreaker preview

I have an oathbreaker paladin NPC in my game, and sooner or later she's going to go up against the party's paladin. It'll be fun to see how his immunity to fear neuters one of her most potent weapons.

The template's really pretty. Nice work.

    13th Age 13th Age monsters in 5E

That's a great and incredibly useful list. I'll link to the 13th Age open source SRD, and encourage people to actually buy the books. They're freakin' awesome, and I say that with great prejudice because I've written for them.

What are your weaknesses as a DM/GM?

Organization. My notes are a scattered mishmash of scrawled phrases on random monster sheets, and it's six years into the campaign and I still haven't drawn a proper map. Tactical combat. Really crunchy combat that isn't cinematic has the risk of boring me. As a DM, I'm a bad match for players...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Questions

Holy crappola. Noted. Sorry, my players.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeonscape no more?

Because, in my opinion, it was awful. I'd get annoyed about every 30 seconds while trying to use it. Good riddance to Silverlight and the slow, bloated platform it created. More importantly (and probably less opinionated), a mobile platform is going to be essential. Silverlight doesn't support...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Glimpse Of High-Level Play

I am officially less confused. :) I actually quite like the high-lvl approach of dragging specialist NPCs along, if for no other reason than extra cannon fodder.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Glimpse Of High-Level Play

You mean me? Two campaigns, six players per campaign, both campaigns at lvl 15. NPCs come and go when it makes sense. NPCs are usually foisted on them, though, as opposed to being recruited (unless a particular specialist is needed.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeonscape no more?

Agreed. I don't think I'm ever going to play another game that's so complicated you NEED digital tools. It turned out to be one of my major frustrations with the last edition. Being able to bang together a character quickly, with just the books, is something I love. …but I still want to give...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Glimpse Of High-Level Play

So, there were some interesting player reactions last game in the other high-lvl game I run. That group belongs to the Gray Guard, imperially-sanctioned monster hunters, and they've risen quite high up in the organization's hierarchy (as you'd expect for lvl 15 PCs.) They're currently in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeonscape no more?

I'd encourage mearls and his team to consider this approach, too. There are some risks -- ongoing support, for instance -- but there are some huge advantages as well. By taking the best tool from the fan community and legitimizing it, not only does Hasbro know that they aren't starting from...

D&D 5E (2014) What technology do you own that you are willing to bring to the table?

When I play Shadowrun, a digital dice roller on my iPad is a must. Rolling 21d6 and picking out all 5s and 6s is a pain in the butt without it. Other than that, I'm mostly analog.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Glimpse Of High-Level Play

Last night one of my lvl 15 groups (the Merchant Prince group, where the heroes are part of the most powerful and influential merchant family in the empire) showed me what happens when high level heroes meet low level monsters. The group was on a flying carpet at treetop level, following a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Help Me Develop a 5e Town

Zaran, you wouldn't need lots of adventurers... just a steady stream, maybe 3 adventuring groups active at a time, with more recruited as they come into town. The tricky question is "how do you collect from those who don't pay up?"

D&D 5E (2014) How much speed could a fast monk gain, if a fast monk could gain speed?

We've gotten it up to 106.25 MPH, or 935 feet in one round (see posts 7 and 8.) I can't say how much this delights me.
