    D&D 5E (2014) Sage Advice August 17th

I'm not. Ready was made VERY costly, as you have to be specific; then you use use up Reaction & Action and then lose access to Extra Attacks, many possibly bonus actions along with Concentration. Many times players would just delay if they could instead. With delay you'd see certain things over...

Check Out This Sneak Peek At OUT OF THE ABYSS

How big is the lair? PCs have plenty of devastating area effects that should obliterate most non creature things in the area. It's much less blatant than the Cover of Dragon 334! http://christopherstevens.deviantart.com/art/Zuggtmoy-Queen-of-Fungi-44003039

    D&D 5E (2014) Square grid, what's the difference between a square and a circle?

well if you are running the game, just rule the caster picks the square, but the intersection of origin is rolled on a 1d4. I think one edition of Wotc Star Wars used that for grenades. But do note, D&D characters are fairly competent individuals even by the time they get fireball. Characters...

    D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell

I decided to go with Mearl's opinion on that matter. As the spell levels in D&D have been fairly distinct in every edition save 4E, I can definitely get behind there being telltale signs of the spell's level in it's casting, even across numerous magical traditions with widely differing verbals...

    D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell

That is not the way the limitation on multiple spells works. The only limitation is when a spell with a bonus action casting time is involved. Nor does 5e have a prohibition on using Reactions during one's own turn. It's more that half a breath, but yes it is a brief moment of time, not...

    D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell

Then it sounds like you need more spellcasters in your monster palette. Eternal Flame Priest in the recent Adventure/ campaign is a nice start.

    D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell

For what it is worth, Mearls feels the counterer knows the level I'm not very generous, i'll tell them the level of the spell but i only tell them what the spell is if I decide they are familiar with it for one reason or another. A high arcana skill (no a roll, it is just based on their mod)...

[5E] Has anyone converted the D&D&Diablo monsters?

Has anyone converted the D&D&Diablo monsters to 5E? I've always liked how the 2E D&D&Diablo monsters were set up and I'm wondering if anyone converted them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Square grid, what's the difference between a square and a circle?

I'd say so, 20' radius spells are potent enough as it is, giving them an area boost just because folks are playing on a grid is like giving an iron club to an oni. Turning it into a firebox also stifles creativity and intelligence play as that robs the characters from airbursting spherical...

    D&D 5E (2014) Square grid, what's the difference between a square and a circle?

leinadvirgo Rules do account for spheres on the grid. On the Grid variant, fireball is a sphere, centered on a grid intersection, affecting the squares that are at least 50% covered by the sphere. Thunderwave is a cube, and I'd say the cube has to be aligned with the grid.

    Remorhaz - Huh?

Uhm, would not the warhorse have been a more appetizing target to the remorhaz in the first place?

    It's All About Illithids

It's still on the same sized red ring 'base' as the PCs. Guess the Devs want to be sure the players see it's a Mind Flayer by making the model "Heroic Scale" aka Scale Creap'ed. That visual effect for mindblast isn't a very impressive looking, more like a Gust Of Wind. Also it looks more like...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are monk's unarmed attacks weapon attacks?

A curse is a curse, it works regardless of rules semantics.

    D&D 5E (2014) When to Roll Initiative

Party sneaks up on target orcs, and decides to watch the targets. Party dwarf makes a "Let's kill them" gesture, but leader gestures 'No, we watch.' Player of dwarf decides F___ this, and attacks. He surprises the target orcs AND his allies as they were not expecting to attack.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting a good spell?

I think Horrid Wilting is in line with the standards Necromancy has had since old editions, BUT those old standards are now grossly unfair. Necromancy school has an "elephant in the room" type problem. It's always done less damage than evocation, but it made up with it's undead. however since...

    OotS 997

I'm sticking with a Zodar. RB claimed it was in a monster book and it is the one that fits most. The ESCAPE! trick was what clinched it. Pretty much all other monsters that can Wish can speak, BUT MITD's ability to speak is unique for his kind. His inability to retrigger the ability also...

    OotS 996

Yes, it would fulfill it very well indeed. It would also explain why he'd be off the radar to Tiamat's prophet. For all the evidence in the comic, the Snarl might not even unmake mortals / souls, but instead trap them in THAT world outside the reach of the setting's gods. And if OOTS are going...
