The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Well that is certainly one perspective. I like to think that people can make up their own minds, and more people aware of the problem is a good thing. Yesterday you were kind of on my case for talking about the open dnd petition (that now has over 43,000 signatures), comparing that to the...

A Seventh Era (7E) RPG...a call for all the non-Hasbro RPG companies to join together to fight D$D5.1, by creating a shared house system

I think that the exodus from d&d is good in the long run. Centralized systems become vulnerable over time. Just as biodiversity leads to a healthy ecosystem, a diverse gaming community would be healthier in the long term. Not to mention that dnd has been sucking all the air out of the room...

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

Very interesting news, as they were one of the biggest supporters of 5e (or at least one of the most well known). I like the name of the project too.

    Why Open Gaming Is Important

I'm not talking about total units sold, I'm talking about the general response to the 1.1 OGL, across the entire internet, most people are both aware and not happy about it. Look at youtube, look at twitter, look at facebook, look at discord servers, look at forums, look at the news articles...

    Why Open Gaming Is Important

You are conflating your own opinions with "most people." Just because you don't have the opinion that this affects people doesn't mean that it doesn't. The #OpenDnD petition currently has over 26,000 signatures as of today, including industry luminaries like Owen K.C. Stephens. That's over...

The OGL 1.1 is not an Open License

The new license prevents sub-licensing, so no 3pp's can use anyone else's OGC under the new license. That's to the best of my understanding anyway.

    Why Open Gaming Is Important

The concept of open gaming allowed for the cross-pollination of ideas in a way that promoted innovation within the d20 ruleset. Homebrewers modding games are a good sign of a games health. When modders leave games they wither and die.

Community Posts Open Letters To WotC About New OGL

the change.org search for the various OGL petitions are linked in the very top post by Morrus I think. I had it posted in my OP but it was brought to my attention that one of the petitions was started by a bad actor in the community and it was recommended that I remove it.

What's All This About The OGL Going Away?

Thank you I appreciate the advice. I do absolutely appreciate the insight available to many folks here in the community. I still have all of my 3e/5e material available for use if it turns out that the OGL 1.0a can continue without interference. And in the event that the OGL is no longer...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Ok I didn't know that, can you please let me know which ones those are so I can take them down? Edit: The petitions have been taken down. I didn't start any of the various petitions, I was trying to do something positive, thanks for not letting me know personally.

What's All This About The OGL Going Away?

Don't worry, you've convinced me. Going forward I will be creating my own system built from the ground up without the OGL, and without being beholden to anyone else. I will be taking a considerable loss, both in time already invested in my previous 5e-adjacent project, sunk business costs, and...
