Cool Flash ad promoting D&D from WotC

Please tell me people don't actually talk like that. It doesn't work. It doesn't make me want to play D&D. Considering I haven't had a game for two months, this is actually pretty hard, but it succeeds. Depicting "actual gameplay" in these ads usually ends badly, because roleplaying games...

    Are You Getting Enough Sleep?

Yes. In daytime. This is occasionally inconvenient.

Why no Magic the Gathering minis?

They did have a line of Magic: the Gathering miniatures, about ten, eleven years ago. The minis were done by Heartbreaker. Considering what they looked like, I am not surprised someone might be opposed to the idea.

    NaNoWriMo 2005 - Who's in?

I'm doing NaNoWriMo as well. It's my third year now. Maybe, just maybe, I can finally get a novel finished this year. Thus far, I'm some 2,000 words behind schedule, but there's still ample time to catch up. I'm actually writing about that Mysterious Stranger who keeps hanging out in bars and...

    D&D Novels- best authors?

There's that other Paul, too... Paul S. Kemp. I especially enjoyed Shadow's Witness, Book II of the Sembia series. The character of Erevis Cale proved to be so popular he returned for a trilogy of his own, of which two novels have thus far come out, Twilight Falling and Dawn of Night. He also...

    Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning

Mmh. I've been seeing this expression used a lot lately. What immortal piece of popular culture have I missed? Enlighten the unenlightened (the sun sets early over here).

    Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning

According to reports on a few Finnish talk shows, the movie's been downloaded over two million times. This was last Monday. If the pace has kept up, it's probably already over 2,800,000... if we count every download as a single viewer, it has then bypassed The Unknown Soldier as the most watched...

    Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning

Indeed, it is a magnificent movie. Got the DVD last month, and I've watched it four times now. Five stars out of five. Personally, I think it's better than any of the Star Trek or Babylon 5 films out there. Then, it might be argued this is not saying much. Here's a mostly spoilerless...

What's your favourite "Forgotten Realms" place?

Waterdeep, followed by Cormyr. Those two places and the stuff written about them (especially the City of Splendors box) most define the spirit of the Realms for me.

Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning - Finnish moviemaking at its best

Some seven years ago, a bunch of Finnish kids started doing a spoof film of Star Trek. Then, somewhere along the way, Babylon 5 got mixed in. Then they finished the movie, a few years later than they intended but with some pretty spiffy special effects. It was released on DVD last month and...

Feng Shui, Paranoia and other such games

I've played quite a few games in addition to D&D... Let's see... Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (Both editions. They rock mightily.) Godlike (Best superhero game ever) Middle-Earth RPG (Not an experience I care to repeat) Feng Shui (Good game, excellent for one-shots) Vampire: the Masquerade (Good...

Are there avid gamers out there who hate cons?

Hmm. We don't get that distinction over here in Finland. It's all in the same con. The roleplayers, cosplayers, larpers, M:tG players, miniatures players and boardgamers are all in the same place for the weekend, affording one a wide variety of things to do. Personally, I like it, since I could...

what dnd books do you own?

Well, limiting myself to WotC-published, 3E stuff... Everything except Stormwrack, the Eberron DM screen and character sheets and the map sets. And I'm buying Stormwrack the next time I happen to stray to the gaming store. In total, I've got some 130 D20 books in my shelves, plus a load of pdf...

What older material are you hunting for?

You and me both... I've got Vol. 1: Shadows Over Bögenhafen, but that's it. Those books are tough to find.

    Is your name unique?

To my knowledge, there are no other NiTessines online. It's actually a corruption of the original form from a Forgotten Realms novel. On ezBoards, I think my account name is NiTessine the Tea Elf.

Do you have a gaming-related blog?

My blog: http://www.livejournal.com/users/nitessine/ Lots of rambling about games and geeky stuff and geeky takes on mundane situations. I've occasionally been told I am funny.

    [FR] Finding Trouble in Waterdeep

Actually, the only FR novels ever declared non-canon are the Double Diamond Triangle Saga, which are Volothamp Geddarm's dabbling in fiction. Heck, they're the primary means of advancing the setting's metaplot. Even the Baldur's Gate novels and Once Around the Realms are canon. The best novel...

Does WotC have a new printer?

I still prefer the old printer... This new stuff smells wrong. It doesn't have that new book smell. It's got more like a fairly elderly book left in a damp cellar for a year smell. Smells a lot like some gamers I know, actually. I want my old new book smell back! :(
