Why CompoundWord Monsters Don't Bother Me

Let's not forget the egregiously-named Sabertooth Tiger and Rockhopper Penguin! Seriously, what were WotC thinking when they came up with those?

    On shfting and jumping

Current jump rules, excerpted: That, combined with the shift rules mentioned above, suggests that you can't jump while shifting, and you can't normally extend your movement distance by jumping in any case.

    Stats for Orium

There's an Orium Implement in the Compendium, but that appears to be it. Personally, I'd houserule stuff like this: Orium Dagger (superior implement) Energized (poison) (When you use an attack power through an energized implement, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls if the power has the...

Rogues Do It From Behind: Essentials Edition

Thieves do it with tricky motions. Slayers do it without thinking about it. Knights do it with anything that moves (or shifts, or attacks an ally). Mages do it after a lot of preparation. Sentinels do it with their loyal animal companion. Warpriests... I dunno. Your turn.

Rules clarification Re: Opportunity attacks and Pushing

Agreed, free actions are not subject to any timing constraints whatsoever other than any trigger they might have. This is why the Fast Hands power is so awesome.

Fake TPKO ("It was only a dream")

How much do your players trust you? I've been playing in my current campaign for over a year now. Last session, my character was (narratively) channeling his lifeforce into an important spell, and finishing the spell was, in the DM's words, "the last thing you know, as you slump to the ground...

What cool things are happening in your campaigns RIGHT NOW!

Our party started off normal-ish at the start of our campaign; now we have: 1: A time mage wielding the embodiment of the concept of dividing as a weapon (in convenient sword form)... 2: A drow lich shardmind (made of solidified dreams) mind-mage (who has recently duplicated his mind into a...

    Feats in HOTFK

Clearly it's safer to refer to it as "HotF'nKingdoms".

    Online Character Builder is LIVE!

As I keep trying to use this thing, the interface faults get to me more and more. I have this irrational desire to find the person responsible for some of those design decisions and beat them upside the head with an Edward Tufte book while shouting "WALL! OF! HUGE! GREEN! BUTTONS!"

    Online Character Builder is LIVE!

First impressions as I get them: * Hangs when I try to import my current character. * Hangs when I try to recover my current character from the crash. * Trying to recreate him from scratch. Choosing a class, scrollwheel doesn't work. Major, major UI fault. * The pop-up bubbly thing when choosing...

Rogue: Reaching Blade plus Killing Storm

To clarify, "forced movement" is a rules term, that specifically encompasses push, pull, and slide. The movement that this power causes is not a push, pull, or slide (nor a shift or teleport), so it provokes opportunity attacks.

Changes Coming in Essentials, Part 2

Love the change to Wild Shape. Skill powers are now worthwhile for druids.

    I Hate Bards

In a game that uses XP (most of the D&D I play these days doesn't bother), all the PCs gain XP at the same rate and level up at the same time. Individual awards for PCs come in a form other than XP.

Essentials Thief - what can the rogue steal ?

All of the expertise feats (including Weapon Expertise, which has been errataed, and is now overshadowed by the new weapon-specific feats anyway) give feat bonuses to attack rolls, and thus don't stack with each other. None of the weapon expertise feats have class prerequisites.

    Rogue Power Interpretation Help

I think there's a really simple explanation for this: In some instances of power templating, the primary attack line ends up at the top regardless of timing. This is partly the fault of the Character Builder: compare the Compendium text of Blade Vault with the CB version for example. With this...

D&D 4E In 4e, why do you play the Race/Class you play?

Currently playing a Dragonborn Sorcerer. (It's a fairly high-powered campaign on both the PC and NPC side of things - one character started off at level 3 with a sword that was the embodiment of the concept of dividing things, with all the scary power that that entails.) My character has...

    Repel Charge feat

The key point is "charge attack". When they're making the attack itself, they're most likely adjacent, and in range of your melee basic.
