TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

That people this inept at running a business manage to keep plugging away for years is either the greatest evidence of the promise of capitalism or the strongest indictment that it is pure hokum. I can't decide which.

Use Your Old CCGs To Power Your RPGs

I would dearly love to find some use for the dead CCG cards I have stored at my parent's house.

    Chronicles of Darkness Discussion

Plenty of "lesser" debilitations that Permanent Insanity when you hit zero. Indefinite insanity can last months of in game time, with some sidelining a PC in a care facility.

    Chronicles of Darkness Discussion

I have, but not too deeply. Didn't care for the rules changes or settings changes. A big part of the appeal for me for VtR 1e is the setting. I honestly prefer it to the backstory bloat that is VtM. And 2e onward feels like increasing bloat and rules complexity. I have a good collection of 1e...

    D&D 5E (2014) Birthright or Eldraine?

Birthright. Develop it as High lvl/Kingdom running rules.

D&D 5E (2024) What if you were in charge of reworking classes for 5.5?

Just feel the fighter covering both Str and Dex concepts makes less and less sense to me as time goes on.

D&D 5E (2024) What if you were in charge of reworking classes for 5.5?

My big change, off the cuff: Remove spellcasting from the Ranger base class. Beef up the Fighter non-combat features to be in line with the Rangers. Retool both Fighter and Ranger so Fighter is expressly the Martial class based on STR and Ranger for DEX.

Historical periods, Problematic Elements, Gameplay, and Fun

You would be hard pressed to find any period of history in which bigotry, cruelty and oppression are not normalized towards some segment of the population. You can certainly feel free to downplay or ignore these elements if that is what will make your table comfortable. A frank discussion during...

TSR Wizards of the Coast Requests Injunction Against NuTSR

Same. Feeling super dirty. But it does emphasis an important point: This is happening because base, eager bigotry is not profitable for a large corporation like Hasbro. And while corporate diversity efforts are nearly always calculating, slick and honestly disingenuous, this is movement towards...

D&D General The Case for Evil Orcs (Minor Rings of Power Spoilers)

I'm sorry. I feel you are missing/overlooking my point previous. Racist stereotypes are not restricted to physical traits. They also speak to behavior. That a given person can not help their actions due to their race is a key feature of racism. Really of all bigotry. So we get that Latinos are...

D&D General The Case for Evil Orcs (Minor Rings of Power Spoilers)

Part of the objection is simply that biological essentialism when it comes to behavior is in essence the basis of racism.

D&D General The Case for Evil Orcs (Minor Rings of Power Spoilers)

It's also worth noting that this is not in fact a new issue. Grappling with or gleefully ignoring the moral implications of violence are as old as RPGs. Keep on the Borderlands has non-combatant women and children peppered among the various orc/goblins/ect found in the caves that the PC...

D&D General The Case for Evil Orcs (Minor Rings of Power Spoilers)

So this is of course a proper hornet's nest but I am curious about one factor. In Tolkien's cosmology, do Orcs have souls? As in, are they complete, living beings, or are they just flesh machines? In DnD, to the best of my knowledge, Orcs have souls. Orcs have Gods. Orcs are judged upon death...
