    Sword & Board PrC?

Very good suggestion. I've been wanting to play a Crusader or Warblade ever since the book came out, and I have a special soft spot for sword & board, it just needs a little help. I think the Bo9S might be just the ticket. Awesome. Didn't realize they had a feat like that in there. I guess...

    Cleric Weretiger - Righteous Might

Quick, before this spirals out of control.... It's a matter of interpretation, one that you'll have to discuss it with your DM. Here's the basics of the two sides: A: If it's magic and it changes your size, it's "size changing magic". Period. B: Only spells that specifically say they...

    Can't choose a backup PC

Or to go a different route... be a crusader. They still get some healing, with plenty of melee ability, and it would make for a very interesting character. I've been wanting to play one of these for forever.

5-foot step in the surprise round

They're not contradictory, so they complement each other... if you don't move you get a 5' step. Surprise round says nothing about not getting a 5' step, so you do.

    Sword & Board PrC?

I love the concept of shield bashing, but TWF is SO feat heavy all by itself... and requiring the shield feats on top of it... bleh. It's like combining the worst of both worlds - the beginning low power of S&B and the heavy feat dependencies of TWF. What I was hoping for was a S&B PrC that...

    Cleric Weretiger - Righteous Might

Oh god, not this argument again. Lycanthropy is not size changing magic. Size changing magic is magic that says "you increase in size by x amount". Lycanthropic changes set your size (in this case to large), then the righteous might increases your size by one category to huge. As for what...

    Sword & Board PrC?

Are there any PrCs out there that make sword and board worthwhile? I'd love to see something that gives fighters a reason to use a shield. Anything out there? There's a bunch of feats that try to help the sword & board guy, but it ends up being hugely feat intensive, which means you're just...

    Can't choose a backup PC

Cleric with augment healing and healing touch (they aren't synergistic, but each really reduce the load of having to heal people all the time). Full plate + shield, and you'll be the most robust character in the party. Grab some divine feats to fill in the gaps.

    D&D rules bloat

I don't really think it's rules bloat. There really aren't many new rules (swift and immediate actions being about it). There are new abilities and new concepts, but very few new rules. What is happening, is player options bloat, and to a lesser extent, DM options bloat. PCs have something...

What happen if a fire elemental fails to make the jump over a body of water?

I'd say that because fire elementals take no damage from water normally, they just turn it all into steam. A fire elemental that jumps into water creates a huge ball of steam, and can slowly paddle its way towards shore, making swim checks like anyone else (and meanwhile making more steam every...

Which NPCs get negative HP rule?

This actually happened to one of my PCs once. I was foolishly following a fellow PC who had the bright idea to try to sell back to the thieves'/assassins' guild the very loot we had earlier stolen from them. They figured out it was us that took it in the first place and jumped us. We got...

Doh... got that mixed up. Thanks for clearing that up. -Nate

    Desert Slave Warrior Class

Nah.... this is straight out of George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" series. The Unbound are specially trained slaves made for fighting and not for thinking. They're basically the ultimate foot soldier - follow orders exactly, to the death, no matter what. They come from a desert...

    Best race for a bard?

I don't agree at all. What do you get for multiclassing with other skillful classes? The bard already has 90% of the skills, so you're not gaining much there, and they lose spellcasting and bardic ability for it. Additionally, most skillful classes are 3/4 BAB, which means you're losing out...

    Most superfluous rule?

I'll 10th or 11th or whatever the paladin/monk/all multiclass restrictions. If the DM wants to restrict a PC, that's one thing, but there's no reason to put it in the rules as a default. Pretty much any other rule I can see some kind of rationale for. Even death from massive damage... sure...

Hide and Move Silently in Actual Play

Combining them makes a ton of sense. None of the classes get "enough" skill points, and anyone who calls the rogue skillpoint heavy hasn't really played one in a campaign where you need all those skills. Invisibility can still give +20 to hide, but won't affect people hearing you... no big...

PHB II Druid alternate wild shape

I don't see a problem with allowing shapeshift to qualify for PrCs that require wildshape, obviously as long as they don't "use up" wild shapes per day to fuel their abilities. I don't remember exactly what nature's warrior gets for abilities, so I don't know how wildshape/shapeshift interacts...

    Best race for a bard?

Human all the way. And don't multiclass. Bards already get a little bit of everything, mutliclassing just hamstrings them. Balance your stats and feats so you don't focus on any one thing too much and you'll always be useful. If you try to be a specialist bard, you'll be screwing yourself...

Quick answer needed! Grapple & Flurry!

Meh, I go for #4 - flurry of grapples is just fine :) It's far from being perfectly clear, and monks need all the help they can get. -Nate

    Pixies

We had a pixie in one of our games. He ended up quitting because he was SOOO underpowered. +4 LA is a LOT. The dex bonus just exactly cancels that out for dex based skills, but you lose feats and hit dice for it as well... The dex makes up for the loss of levels for hitting, but you're...
