Laying out your dungeon - advice?

Great minds and all that? :) The Kinko's box is just a plain brown box used to store stacks of paper. The art box I picked up from an art store (Pearl Art Supply in Rockville MD, though I've seen them elsewhere.) Here's the article I wrote about all my gaming supplies...

    Mouse Guard

It occurred to me over the weekend while reading my newly purchased Fall 1152 collection that Mouse Guard is a perfect Points of Light setting... ...then read the news about the RPG the next day. :)

Laying out your dungeon - advice?

For dungeons, I lay it out at home using the tiles, including placing the minis on the tiles for where the monsters will be. I take a digital picture of the whole thing. I print it out and mark it up with any other notes (like traps, secret doors, etc.) An example here...

    Excerpt: skill challenges

Sure, makes sense, but is that better than Easy/Medium/Hard complexity (or however many gradations are needed?)

    Excerpt: skill challenges

Apparently I have a different problem than everyone else. This doesn't make sense to me: How does 3 = 8s/4f? I'm hoping there's some easy formula that's escaping me at the moment, and not some weird chart I have to look up. And what does a Complexity rating mean by itself anyway? It sure...

    D&D 3.x 4E Ruined My Love For 3.5

Every time I move diagonally in 3.5, I cry a little inside.

    Excerpt: powers (merged)

I can just see the D&D Rules citing philosophical texts to try to come up with a working definition of "willing".

4th Edition Mounted Combat ... did I miss anything?

It was implied by Sara Girard that Paladins don't get a mount until Paragon tier. Doesn't really answer your question, but maybe it'll be similar for other classes.

    Why does WotC hate Macs?

Especially given how many of their staff members own MacBooks and were using them at the D&D XP.

    Warlord on Monday!

Awesome news. Our poll about which 4th ed class you're most looking forward to currently has the Warlord leading, so when I summarize the results I'll be able to say "You were looking forward to it, here it is!"

That's been my experience too! Thanks for the write-up.

    WotC_Dave: Color Power!

I'm not disagreeing with this, but the quote I was responding to was "Colors are the absolute worst way to graphically differentiate things", which is not true. And for people who can see colors, it's definitely a good cornerstone. And I'd disagree with the assumption that "almost all graphic...

    WotC_Dave: Color Power!

Huh? For colorblind people such as yourself, maybe, but for the rest of us, that's a cornerstone of graphic design. In my lecture on graphic design in boardgames , I advocate trying to use both a color and a texture or other distinguishing factor. Texture isn't going to work in a page layout...

    D&D 4E 4E at the printers...but we don't see it until June?

You've got most of the big steps, but they take longer than you might think. Once a full proof comes back, there's a lot of checking to be done, and possibly a lot of back and forth with the printers (in my experience, this is often in color matching.) Printing will also take a while...

    D&D 4E 4E in Car-speak: "No Sale"

I have the same model as you, but my car is getting along with age. It's no longer as fun to drive, and my friends complain about the smell coming out of the AC every once and a while. Sure, they're happy to still ride, but there's definitely some annoying parts to it. Sure, it's served me well...

    1.5 instead of 1-2-1?

Alright, so I know this has been said repeatedly in other threads, but I have to repeat it: 1-2-1-2 isn't a complicated rule. The problem with it is that it's a memory condition. The state of the game does not tell you if you're on a 1 square or a 2 square. You have to remember every step, and...

Why remove the Dodge feat, but add "marks"?

Agreed, this was one of the few things I was disappointed with when playing 4e. The marks in and of themselves are not bad. The problems I ran into were that the marks from different classes operated differently and did different things, so they were hard to track for us and the DM. If they...

    Alright already!!!

Uhh? I was there, and I'd hardly say that the "vast majority" of demo groups had TPK. Mine did because the DM got the death and dying rules wrong. There were a few against the big dragon that was supposed to be super-challenging. But unless you have data proving otherwise, there is no way the...

Anyone else coming back into the fold because of 4.0?

I'm interested to hear how many people are coming back to the fold because of 4e, but I'm even more interested to hear how many people are starting to play D&D because of 4e. We won't know until the book comes out, but will it be accessible enough to new players?
