What motivated you to purchase splatbooks for 3e?

I got all the splat books (Sword & Fist, Tome & Blood, Song & Silence, Defenders of the Faith, and Masters of the Wild) because I liked new prestige classes. The various new feats and prestige classes gave me inspiration for new characters. Sword & Fist generated the splat book comment because...

Do you not play WOW? Forked Thread: Wil Wheaton plays and reviews 4th.

I have never played World of Warcraft. The only MMORPG I've played much, and not that much, is City of Heroes.

    The Prestige Fallacy

Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition had a great concept: core base classes upon which all characters could be built. If you want to play a certain kind of fighter then take different feats than that other type of fighter. If you want to play a Fighter/Magic-User then just multiclass 50% in each and...

    Reskinning PCs

As a DM, I take to heart the idea that monsters of the same species are different. If one player wanted to play a Human and another wanted to play a Tiefling using the stats of Human I'd allow it. Why not allow the players to reskin the player character races within reason. If someone wanted...

    Reskinning PCs

In a new campaign, before the setting was even determined, I asked the DM to allow me to reskin a lazer cleric to be a psionicist instead. He said no with the stated justification as "Wizards will release psionics rules in the future so wait until then". Obviously I couldn't wait because the...

Monk a striker: Why? (Forked Thread: 3rd Party Poopers)

Different monks for different styles works well: I want the Monk to be a martial controller. There is also room for a fighting style that is Ki Striker, Ki Defender, Ki Leader, and Ki Controller. The Ki Controller would probably be the fire-breathing monk type so different than the Monk...

Forked Thread: Want to help design a New Cosmology for any Edition?

He who is the Judge, King, and Lover created the World and gave dominion over its parts to his myriad children. To his favorite child, Aquila, he gave the most potent and beautiful continent in all of creation. Aquilagea, as Aquila's land was known, was attacked by the other peoples of the...

    layoffs?

It is called jealousy! "Understand" can mean "to accept sympathetically". I am not sympathetic to people who haven't yet reached the highest levels of success being jealous of CEOs. There is no rule that says businessman are not also creative. In fact, anyone who has ever worked for a good...

Woot! Thanks, Wizards of the Coast dropped the ball a long time ago and it's so great to see good management by the DDM Guild.

    layoffs?

Very well said. In fact, cowardly management that refuses to adjust their workforce is stealing money from little old ladies in order to protect their image from angry fans. Instead of letting people go one at a time it appears that Wizards of the Coast clings to employees until the last...

DDM Lives! Through Official Fan License.

At the beginning of D&D Miniatures there was a policy where Wizards of the Coast provided official links between Chainmail miniatures and DDM. This allowed you to use your Chainmail version of a DDM figure in tournaments or just have a little variety on the battle map. Is it within the...

    layoffs?

In general it is my impression that non-compete agreements aren't likely or able to be enforced in a court of law. It would also be bad PR if Wizards of the Coast had layoffs and kept its former employees unemployed due to non-compete clauses. I wouldn't worry about it.

    layoffs?

I heard of some more layoffs, not sure: Barry Holldorf (Dir. of Facilities and Business Services) Ian Wilkinson (Director of Operations) Nate Heiss It looks like a lot of the layoffs were at the Director level making Wizards of the Coast less top heavy with management positions. Also they can...
