    AD&D 1E Common House Rules for AD&D?

Well, I hate 2e and 4e, but not all editions post the real thing. How ever did you guess I Iike AD&D more than AD&D 2e?

    AD&D 1E Common House Rules for AD&D?

To recap… I replied to a bunch of stuff and included a terminology aside about AD&D (1e), you replied disagreeing and pointing to a cover as proof of your point about AD&D 2e, and I replied to you commenting on what editions call themselves on their covers. bill91 replied to me saying “Does any...

If it doesn’t matter, why post about it?

    AD&D 1E Common House Rules for AD&D?

1e is, of course, a retronym. AD&D books say “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons” on the cover. Out of curiosity, I checked my PHB’s: 1e: “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons” 2e: “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition” 3e: “Dungeons & Dragons” 3.5e: “Dungeons & Dragons v3.5” 4e: “Dungeons & Dragons” 5e...

    AD&D 1E Common House Rules for AD&D?

In my experience as a AD&D 1e* player & DM, Surprise was a d6 or DM fiat depending on the situation. And Weapon Speed Factor was: “Huh, that’s a complicated table. Let’s ignore that.” Same for weapon length and weapon v. specific armor type. *1e is really just AD&D to me, with the other...

AD&D 1E Greyhawk: Who kidnapped Prince Thrommel?

There is a lot that’s odd, but I treat as reality that’s mysterious. One thing I discovered that struck me as odd is a room full of Shadows. Given that Shadows have caused more PC deaths in my campaigns than any other monster, and are incorporeal, why are they just in one place? How were they...

AD&D 1E Greyhawk: Who kidnapped Prince Thrommel?

Whoever did it didn’t count of the skepticism of my players. The Pholtus thing had them on high “WTF is going on here” alert. They knew fishiness was going on.

D&D 5E (2024) So what's the new Player's Handbook going for on eBay?

Agree. To meme paraphrase: Capitalism…uh… finds a way.

AD&D 1E Greyhawk: Who kidnapped Prince Thrommel?

My assumption as well, but given he’s essentially unguarded, other than by magical hiding and apparent subterfuge of the Pholtus chapel and fake vampire setup behind it, I’m not sure. With the Lloth connection to certain folks (limiting the spoilers), maybe her cult did it? With the garbled...

AD&D 1E Greyhawk: Who kidnapped Prince Thrommel?

He was kidnapped 3 years after the Battle of Emridy Fields, and hidden in the “sealed” TOEE. Whodunnit is unclear.

    D&D General Greyhawk: Beyond Oerik

If you have a Greyhawk campaign, do you have continents other than Oerik and Hepmonaland? (I’m not asking about western Oerik, which has a lot lol Greyhawk discussion already.) Do you use New Empyrea/Aquaria? Or Fireland? Anything like that? FYI, I just learned that Frank Mentzer was...

AD&D 1E Greyhawk: Who kidnapped Prince Thrommel?

In the Temple of Elemental Evil, Prince Thrommel has been kidnapped for years and is hidden in the guise of a Vampire in a coffin. In a secret room behind a secret chapel to Pholtus. Who done it? Someone on Facebook pointed out Gygax later said the Scarlet Brotherhood did it for Nyrond. Who...

That’s what I have seen most often.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

That’s certainly how I run my Greyhawk campaigns. Since Greyhawk is out of print, there’s no universally agree canon. But perhaps Forgotten Realms games that keep to canon exist?

D&D General 5.5 and making the game easier for players and harder for DMs

My quick advice? Every time I see the word “balance”, someone is complaining about other player’s characters or DM’s playing wrong. So my advise is: stop worrying about balance. As a DM, allow for pushover encounters and nigh unstoppable encounters. Just give warnings and barriers to entry...

Look for the AD&D product “Rogues Gallery”, for some of them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

My impression is FR has “magic as technology”, outside the dungeon and related areas, whereas Greyhawk generally doesn’t.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

I’ve never played or run a Forgotten Realms campaign, but it’s more or less synonymous with D&D setting now, from the movie and BG3. (I run Greyhawk and DM’s I’ve played with generally do their own setting, if any.) Any idea why WotC wants to change that?
