i just don't understand why your players would continue to develop a skill they obviously have very little use for. And that statement applies both in a roleplaying and powergaming sense.

Take this following post with a grain of salt, because I've never read anything about these classes (Scout, Warlock, ect). I came into 3e very pleased, because after so many years of 2e, I could now custmize characters a lot more. If you wanted a scout in 2e, you had to be a Fighter/Thief or a...

2-6. I like level 2 a lot because you're so much stronger than level 1, but level 6 is where each class really starts to shine in it's own way.

I think a big part of it (at least for me) is that I haven't done PbP is a really long time, and, personally, I'm looking for a vanilla good old D&D type setting and core classes/races to play with. The veterans (who play in person a lot and PbP all the time) are bored of the old vanilla stuff...

Just kill or incapacitate another character. ;) Don't feel bad because your players decided to create a balanced party. UMD gets the most mileage out of small parties, or ones that aren't balanced.

I carry one in my glove compartment. But what if something happens in a restaurant or church or something? I don't carry it with me all the time.

It's for me saving somebody else that I'm concerned. :)

My point is that the one time I did go, there were about 30 people from my job going, and about 25 of them didn't own any equipment. I think it would have been more fun for the whole crew to either all use the same stuff, or just play without the 5 guys who obviously do this all the time.

I'd usually agree, unless it's a special circumstance. I'll give two examples: 1)a solo game (1 player, 1 DM). You don't need to work well with others in these. 2)a game where the assassin is on a mission to kill one of the characters. The DM needs to give the assassin a time (not yet) to...
