    I cheated last game session

When you die, on your tombstone will be etched "CHEATER!". I hope that you pray for your eternal soul, Elf Witch! You certainly won't be let in the pearly gates with that black mark. :) /end sarcasm

    Necromancer or DCCs?

In that case, I would highly recommend a couple of DCC modules - Crypt of the Devil Lich and Vault of the Dragon Kings. They were the 2004 and 2005 GenCon tournament modules, respectively. They are both high level (I believe Crypt was around 15th, while Vault was around 10th...I think). To...

    Dungeons without Adventures

I agree with the posters who recommended the Dungeon Crawl Classics line. The modules are generally easy to fit into a campaign, and the stories are easily altered to accomodate your own plot.

    Sell Hackmaster to me

If you liked 1e and 2e, you'll enjoy Hackmaster. It builds on those game mechanics, and makes for some GREAT combat scenes. I've never been big on the combat aspects of roleplaying, but I've always enjoyed the Hackmaster combats - they are just more dangerous, and more interesting. You get...

[Old Timers] Opinions on the Dungeon Crawl Classics modules and 'old school vibe'.

With all of the modules, you can expect a dungeon crawl, so my response is based on the elements that I enjoy seeing in dungeon crawls - puzzle rooms, riddles, strategic combat, great descriptions and dungeon dressing. The best examples of those are Crypt of the Devil Lich and Vault of the...

[Old Timers] Opinions on the Dungeon Crawl Classics modules and 'old school vibe'.

I haven't found a gaming company that quite recaptures that feeling of nostalgia the way Goodman games has. As a GM, I've always created my own campaign world and adventures, and they tend to focus on roleplaying opportunities and politics. That being said, I'm a huge fan of puzzle rooms...

    Does the Average Gamer Read?

I think that our hobby tends to attract people who are readers. Our group contains 1 person who does not, and he's a bit of an anomaly.

You'll be happy to hear that they're releasing a 1E module at GenCon then.

Goodman Games joins the high-priced market...

I heard Joseph Goodman say, "we COULD make our own name, but why should we? Some ingenuitive fellow submitted a world name into the WOTC setting search. Aereth...sounds a bit like Earth...let's go with it! This way, he'll be upset that we stole his unpublished setting name! Ha ha!"

Goodman Games joins the high-priced market...

I create my own campaign world, so I don't purchase campaign products...but I'm picking this one up. I guess that should say something. Ever since the GenCOn Dungeon Crawl Classics tournament (hands down, the best and most enjoyable D&D tournament I've ever participated in), I've been a big...

Would you like to see RPGA modules in Dungeon magazine?

What I WOULD like to see is some of the older D&D Open tournaments, but it probably wouldn't be in Dungeon (although they did print a more recent D&D Open tournament, "Shards of Eberron"...I think it was called). There are several that I'd like to get a hold of, if they'd just offer them in PDF...

Cincinnati area (OH/KY/IN) - looking for players

When - every Wednesday (although, most of us are pretty flexible if the day needs to be changed). We generally play from 6:00-10:00 or 10:30. Where - Northern KY area. We usually play at the GMs home (which is currently in transition, as he is moving to Wallace Woods). Game Setting - basic...

Help!! 1st time DM need advice!!

Develop your own campaign world and adventure. It is far more rewarding. Always keep in mind that the players are there to be entertained. Start with what interests you (in terms of story, roleplaying opportunities, etc). If you're inspired and interested when developing something, that is a...

Just to clear the air, 4th edtion has been out for a few years now.

I agree with egomann. The additions that Hackmaster brings makes it worth playing over 1e and 2e. After you run a couple combat sessions, you'll immediately see the difference.

Just to clear the air, 4th edtion has been out for a few years now.

I'll field this one. First, I would never expect Hackmaster to bring lots new gamers into the hobby. Without a doubt, Hackmaster will appeal to those that want the 1e/2e game mechanics with A LOT more complexity. Now, in regards to your first question - you would purchase Hackmaster if you...

Just to clear the air, 4th edtion has been out for a few years now.

Exactly. I believe that is was also part of the license agreement that Kenzer & Co had to incorporate parody elements into the game and their adventures. If the parody is ignored, there are some fun game mechanics...and it's a great game for those gamers who liked 2nd edition better than 3rd...

Just to clear the air, 4th edtion has been out for a few years now.

Actually, Hackmaster is AD&D 2nd edition, with additional game mechanics added on. My players used to refer to it as "Chartmaster" because EVERYTHING had a chart. While it added a lot of complexity, I found the combats to be more interesting (the addition of critical hit charts, penetration...
