Joe Commoner, and his BIG AXE!!!

Peasants would more likely have an ax than a sword. Pretty much any blacksmith can make an ax, takes a swordsmith to make a sword though. That said, every 3 year old boy I have every known knows how to wield a sword. ;) They don't do as well with "weapons" which have a center of gravity...

    missing skills

Without requoting everything: If it requires smarts (a la engineering) Intelligence If it requires "art" (a la painting) Charisma If it requires "feel" (a la farming) Wisdom If it requires brute strength Strength If it requires Endurance Constitution And if it requires "hand" Dexterity...

    Non-Newtonian movement...

How can you be slower than not moving, or only moving 5' anyhow? Who gives a rat's butt about them walking down the street? Most people don't "move" at combat speed most of the time anyhow. They move at regular speeds, for one that might be a brisk walk, others might like to mosey. Overall...

Anyone else notice the weirdness about Defenses?

Anyone else notice the weirdness about Defenses?

Hey how you twink your character out has nothing to do with this discussion. ;) Overall, it seems like attacks vs. AC have a higher "To Hit" bonus than attacks targetting the other defenses. Not sure I like that since it makes having a low AC character even more dangerous...

What is the difference between push, pull, shift and slide?

Not unless the power states so. You can pull someone "past" you without moving, and you can shove someone away from you without moving. There are also ranged powers which allow all three types of actions, think telekinises basically...

    4th Ed Grapple

    1. Grapple is an attack, thus a standard action. 2. Good question it would appear a standard though. 3. Good question, my gut says it is a check against STR (10+STR mod)

What is the difference between push, pull, shift and slide?

Shift is something a character chooses to do. It is a a movement action that does not provoke AoO. The other three are all done to another character. Push is away from the pusher, pull is towards the puller, and slide is any direction the slider desires.

    All Dailies should be *reliable*

House Rule #1: Action Points can be spent to reroll a dice. Not quite reliable, but at least a second chance...

    Shifty v/ CC: Who Wins?

You mean words actually mean things? It's exception based rules, it really doesn't matter how/what/where/why/when a creature can do something "against the rules", it simply can. And I don't see your 100 attacks either, not in one turn, and definately not every turn, since we've seen no at will...

    D&D 4E 4E is too video-gamey

Just an innocent question, what prevents you as the DM from swapping powers? Gnoll Strangler for example, you could have 4 of them as seperate BBEG encounters. Each one has a different "style" though. Lil power "swap" or "reflavoring" and then you have the one that evokes its powers by doing...

    Extended Rest and Dailies

It is actually a DM's call on which way to do it. However, you can only take ONE extended rest per day. So if you "rested" from 00:00 to 06:00 then the party cannot take an extended rest until after 23:59, likewise they use their daily powers more than once during that timeframe as well. It...

    A Different Way to Handle 1 2 1 2

There is a hang up with the 1-2-1 movement scale. Guess what it doesn't have to be. this is the best "way" I can explain 1-1-1 diag. movement. There is no static grid. Every Grid only applies to the current "active" creature/PC. So the Grid that a player moves on is ever "aligning" to...

    Shifty v/ CC: Who Wins?

There isno problem. not even for Kobold PC's. It is a real simple choice, does the Fighter use his immiediate action on a shifting kobold, or does he save it up for the shifting red dragon next to him? (Just an example). the same thing would be applied to a fighter NPC against kobold PC's...

    Tactical Quotient (TQ) for monsters

I'm play them well enough to give the party a "memorable" encounter as ofen as possible. I want them to fear the BBEG, but I don't want them ever thinking "bah, just a bunch of XXXX, this is a breeze"... And they don't.

D&D 4E first time dm creating 4e world, help pls?

Since somewhere you basically said your group has fun with having clearly defined goals and working within the limits, here is one suggested way: Take your world, make the prison <START HERE>, then "draw" out a "dungeon" using the locations, events, and NPC's to fill out the "dungeon". Now...

    1.5 instead of 1-2-1?

Just get rid of the grid, use a ruler and then 6" is 6" no matter which way you go... I like Picasso, so 1-1-1 is fine for the cubist in me... The engineer in me wants to scream though. ;)
