One of my PCs is wearing a Lich's phylactery!

    True-depends upon the DM.

    Steampunk info

Character quirks are always welcome in a game (as long as they aren't TOO annoying).

Telling a Story vs. Having Fun

It can certainly create a shared cooperatively written story, but when the Storyteller/DM/whatever treats his players as actors in a story he alone is writing games tend to go downhill.

One of my PCs is wearing a Lich's phylactery!

Though being paladins they hopefully won't shoot (or stab, slice, bash, etc.) first and ask questions later.

Zombie Apocalypse Day 16 and 17 DM’s Note: For anyone wondering, the current characters are: Eoghan (Elven Rogue 3/Wizard 2) Casvel (Human Barbarian 2/Ranger 2) Bokin (Kobold half-dragon Fighter 2/Sorcerer 1/Ranger 1) Cliona (Elven Wizard 5) Fraup (Gnome Rogue 4) Dramus (Drow half-dragon...

Angelsboi passed away 16 Jun 04 (was: Angelsboi Health Update)

Wow-he seemed like a great person. Having lost two of my own gaming partners over the years, I hope they are all together playing a game and rolling many natural 20s.

    A PC who wont kill

I once had a monk in one of my games who wouldn't kill. He'd destroy outsiders, constructs, or undead, but if it was alive he'd go nonlethal.

    What is cheating?

Except for the "my job is to kill the players" DMs, I don't believe a DM can really cheat. Sometimes the players are blowing through encounters easier than you expected, so you add more monsters. Sometimes that hill giant zombie hits a bit too hard-so you fudge the damage die downward...

    Too Many Books. . .?

Aside from the Core Rulebooks, the other books are just options. Want to run a horror campaign? Pick up Libris Mortis, Heroes of Horror, and perhaps Lords of Madness. Outer Planes campaign? Pick up Manual of the Planes, Planar Handbook, and the Fiendish Codex. A lot of what you 'need' depends on...

The Fine Art of Quitting a Bad Game

Wow-I've never even considered charging to DM. I have on occasion had to tell a player to buy his own supplement if I don't want to buy it-with the caveat that I need to approve anything used from it.

    Fudging dice rolls

I don't use a screen, but I will cup my hand over the dice if neccesary. Since I have a rather eclectic group, sometimes an encounter I plan will end up too tough. In that case I'll fudge a bit for them. Other than that I let the dice fall where they may.

    Fiction in Dragon magazine

Eh-I can take it or leave it. I prefer gaming content in my gaming magazines, but if the story is appropriate for the issue I don't particularly mind its inclusion.

You know you're an old gamer when...

One of my all time favorite characters was a merchant-thief from Al'Qadim. Short, fat, greedy moneygrubber with a 17 Intelligence-ended up the richest guy in the party.

Chronicles of Essenon: Blood on Snow-updated 4/12

Day 14 was our most recent gaming session (actually it was the last two and part of the one before that) so updates will be (hopefully) weekly now. It was an enjoyable session-the players were really getting into character, friendly rivalries are developing, and the fights had everyone on the...

Chronicles of Essenon: Blood on Snow-updated 4/12

Zombie Apocalypse Day 12 Dramus stood before the altar in the small chapel. His prayers done, he thought of his mission. He was to find out what was going on in the outer city. He would interview more of the refugees from the outer city, then check the city defenses again. He went to gather...

2 (or more) PCs per Player

Actually I thought of one situation where it did work. We played a d20 Future game where we were all crewmembers of a piratical raider. Each player had 2-3 characters, and would choose which to take on any particular mission.

    Anyone Remember...

Been playing almost as long as Mouseferatu-options simply allow a character's abilities to match the concept. I love this version of the game.
