Why Do Batman Fans Hate Christopher Nolan?

It would be refreshing to give the old stand-bys a break, and introduce some newcomers to the big screen, wouldn't it? Well, yeah...Michelle Pfeiffer! Interesting. I interpreted Batman's hiatus from crime fighting as part of his charade as the villain who killed Harvey. I honestly didn't...

D&D 5E (2014) What's the rush? Has the "here and now" been replaced by the "next level" attitude?

I don't know how this thread turned into a Batman debate, but Celebrim's rant actually reminded me that I'm genuinely curious why CN seems to provoke such strong reactions from fans. So I made a thread to discuss it. Oh, and on topic: Who doesn't like to level up? My experience says that those...

Why Do Batman Fans Hate Christopher Nolan?

I have a confession to make: I love CN's Batman trilogy. It's got continuity, memorable villains, and Hans Zimmer. The only other Batman flick that sticks out in my mind is Batman Returns...and I think CN's trilogy still wins out as my preference. But I'm told that CN left several plot holes...

    Alignment: True versus Neutral

Hm, no more ambiguity regarding TN, and it reflects how I see TG and TE -- I like it! To be fair, it's not like D&D has never reinvented an English word to a different game-specific term. ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Would a repeat of the large errata from the previous edition put you off of Next?

Well said. :) I too hope for little-to-no errata, because it'll make me that much more confident in my [probable] decision to avoid 5e.

Science Fiction in Your Fantasy Game?

That's a good distinction to make, and a great way to put it! For my part, I'm the opposite way: Lasers on the weapons list [presumably] means that the sci-fi is built into the setting, which might be really awesome. Whereas the occasional left-hand turn into, as Umbran would say, a single...

D&D 5E (2014) Would a repeat of the large errata from the previous edition put you off of Next?

Reading some of the responses here, I find myself thinking the same thing. "Did nobody think to print out the errata docs relevant to their class, and check it once per level-up? Or just keep it on their computer?" Granted, DMs have a little more to deal with, what with Stealth errata and such...

Science Fiction in Your Fantasy Game?

Mostly no. I don't even care for Rennaisance-era guns in my games. If I thought hard enough I could probably come up with an exception or two...but nothing springs immediately to mind. I like my fantasy and sci-fi separate.

D&D 5E (2014) Would a repeat of the large errata from the previous edition put you off of Next?

Says you. I've been using dead-tree books and hand-written character sheets since day one of 4e, and I stand by my opinion. Regular errata demonstrates care for the game, and respect for the customers.

D&D 5E (2014) Would a repeat of the large errata from the previous edition put you off of Next?

Quite the reverse: A dev team that cares enough about their game and customers to put out regular errata is a selling point.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

I'm ready for a 4.5e, or something new, interesting, and elegant. 5e definitely isn't the former, and probably won't be the latter. So for now I'm ready for more 4e! Maybe I'll be ready for 6e...

The Great Wheel: Positioning Gehenna and Tarterus/Carceri

As much as I love PS in broad strokes, it's inspired and weighed down by quite a bit of legacy concepts that don't all make much sense together. Additionally, I know from personal experience how creatively exhausting it is to write nine distinct yet thematic outer planes -- I can only imagine...

D&D 5E (2014) What races do you expect to see in the core books?

Looking over the play test document, it appears that 5e may be the first edition to feature world-specific races in the PHB. Kender and warforged, oh my! Yes, and we mustn't do anything to upset the crankypants people. ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think they will go back to driders being a curse instead of a blessing?

Yeah, real curses always come with terrible handicaps, even if they also grant power. The Medusa was once a beautiful woman cursed to ugliness and loneliness as punishment for her vanity; werewolves only gain their power when they lose control of themselves and may easily end up killing their...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think they will go back to driders being a curse instead of a blessing?

Ditto. I guess some people just can't help making mountains out of mole hills.

D&D 5E (2014) Is long-term support of the game important?

That's exactly what it means. If his speculations... ...are wrong. Which they easily could be. There's no reason to be an edition-war apologist, or to assume reasons for things that we don't have inside info on. Jester had no need to specifically bring up his speculations about 4e, and yet he...

D&D 5E (2014) Is long-term support of the game important?

No doubt some editions are more popular than others, but let's not pretend that we know which is which, 'kay? The topic under discussion is long-term game support, so these little speculations about 4e (and 2e) are looking more and more like edition warrior garbage. Which is a shame, because I...

D&D 5E (2014) Is long-term support of the game important?

Yes, and I agree with much of what you say. However, there is one thing that I just can't reconcile... Er...have you not been reading the many and sundry "Will you buy 5e?" threads? Many people, for various reasons, buy new editions just because they're new. It's not something I can personally...
