    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

I had an encounter last night against level 7 PCs using the dnd 2024 Gladiator. The gladiators did their job well, but I was surprised at party's reaction to them. My group understands that NPCs and PCs don't play by the same rules, but for some reason this one struck a chord with them. Though...

    Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

It was funny as I watched that scene...I kept thinking I had missed something. I was like "ok is that some special building that has important DC reference, or is there something written that I'm just not seeing". And then it turns out it was just a little joke with no real context and it felt...

    Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

I will firmly agree with this. Since this movie sets the tone of the new DCU, I would have rather they either forego end credit scenes or have made it important. Go one or the other. This was the worst of both worlds.

D&D 5E (2024) Skill Mastery as an idea

If your DM doesn’t run the game in a way you like, more rules won’t help you. It was the big revelation in 5e. 3e and 4e tried to fix the “bad dm problem” with lots of very codified rule sets covering as many situations as possible. But with 5e they realized that it just doesn’t work. DMs are...

    Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

If I were to pick one "science" fact that needed to be explained more in the movie, that was the anti-proton stream. In terms of durability feats....Superman literally bathe in a stream of basically one of the deadliest weapons you could have. A stream of anti-protons would make nuclear weapons...

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Evil and Good cleric spell 5th level in use

To be clear, I think the OP made a perfectly fine on the spot ruling for all the activities noted. If I did my own self review after a session, I wouldn't have any concerns. I just think the conversation is now shifting more towards dispel good and evil for a future perspective. Ok now having...

D&D General Feeding/hunger rules for vampires - all input appreciated

I think this version is perfectly fine. If you want to simplify it a bit more and use some more core 5e rules, you could go with the 2024 exhaustion system. Every X time frame that a vampire goes without feeding, it gains 1 exhaustion. This exhaustion is fully restored when the vampire feeds...

    Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

Saw it today, absolutely loved it. To me this was Superman. Hopeful, earnest, and even naively believing the best in people. I liked that most of his fights focused on him saving people and trying to limit damage rather than the raw battle. That to me is Superman in a way that Man of Steel...

D&D General DMs, how do you handle 'split party' situations?

Completely possible, yet I still find it preferable to them just having to walk away from the table. I can work with them knowing things they shouldn’t, but if your entertainment isn’t entertaining that’s a much bigger issue

D&D 5E (2014) Narzugon on Nightmare versus Magic Circle

damn that is brilliant, never would have occurred to me to do that.

D&D General Magic Effects (Help with a House Rule)

like you said, as a 90% solution that gets you most of the way there, I think this is a fine baseline. And then of course you still might have to tweak for a few specific situations but it gets you most of the way to where you wan to go without creating a large onerous list. So looks solid to me.

D&D General DMs, how do you handle 'split party' situations?

Nothing the thread necromancy here (4 year old thread). I will echo this. I think the little bit of players having to not use info they learn for their own roleplay is far less of an issue than players bored because they can't even sit at the table and listen to what's going on.

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

All I can do is quote my own experience. Which is…the books aren’t a different enough to justify. When I think 3e vs 3.5…it felt like everything was changed. So many adjustments and improvements. 5.5 in comparison is just a lot less, and wasn’t worth re-teaching my players on the things that...

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Evil and Good cleric spell 5th level in use

I don't know of any RAW that says that. I actually only know two other touch offensive spells: "Inflict Wounds" and "Shocking Grasp". Both of those specifically say make a melee spell attack. So there is nothing implied, its straight up written. Dispel Evil and Good has no such language.

D&D General How do devils actually get to the world from hell?

One thing thats notable in Baldur's Gate 3. Devils can pop in and out of the world, seemingly going back to hell and then returning to the mortal world as they need to to conduct their business. But in 5e the vast majority of devils have no such capabilities. No teleport and no plane shift. So...

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Evil and Good cleric spell 5th level in use

I also would not add an attack roll to break enchantment. There is none in the spell, and considering that breaking someone out of a possession is one of the key things to use the spell for (and I would figure pretty much any possessing entity doesn't want to be pushed out)...the spell seems to...

D&D General Blessing of the Lone Champion: what's the best pick for a solo adventurer?

I would argue that a Paladin or Bard are the most self sufficient characters, they basically bring everything to the table. They can fight, heal, and brings all of the social skill power you might need.

D&D 5E (2024) Weird Potion House Rule Idea

It is? I figured that's the "interact with object" free action....though i think a lot of people would just include it in the bonus action to drink anyway.

    Trailer Red Sonja trailer

And lets be honest, its not like movie armor is worth a damn anyway. How often have we seen someone stab someone with a sword right through their middle breastplate in a movie! I still think its hilarious that one of the best depictions of armor has been in the comedy A Knight's Tale of all things

    Trailer Superman Full Trailer

I tell you the reviews are WILDLY divergent on this one. I've seen some think its amazing, others think it is literally the steaming **** pile of the summer.
