    GenCon Seminars and Events

Where's the 5e announcement? I was told that WotC was definitely going to announce a new edition this GenCon? Will I be disappointed? /smartass

    Evard's shadow

This. When I wrote my adventures over two years ago, I was told to use stock monsters whenever possible too (it didn't always work that way since they were converted 3.5e adventures and there weren't a lot of monsters to choose from, especially given their theme).

Rule of Three 6/13/2011: "semi-obscure but flavorful setting" in Dungeon and Dragon

I too broke out my 1e Oriental Adventures and 1988 box set while working on something for that month.

Rule of Three 6/13/2011: "semi-obscure but flavorful setting" in Dungeon and Dragon

According to Greg Bilsands twitter feed, the DDI magazines will feature an upcoming Kara-Tur themed month. I can't wait for more reasons than one!

    Bladesinger Preview!

Last month there was a large playtest article in Dragon that provided multi-class and hybrid options for many of the classes from HotFK and HoS.

    WotC RPG Dept. Re-Orgs

Just read this here. So it looks like Mike Mearls assumed Bill Slavicek's old job (though as a Senior Manager instead of a Director) and Rich Baker in turn filled Mike's old position. Also, there's a tidbit in there about a new sorcerer build appearing in Elemental Power.

    July & Beyond

I think the complaints are misplaced (not that there's no validity to the dearth of epic level content right now). The Neverwinter Campaign Setting is a video game tie-in, which means its primarily a way to get people who play the videogame interested in the PnP RPG. It totally makes sense...

What's appropriate damage for Brute area-effect attacks?

My math comes out to an average of 21 points of damage for a limited, multi-target brute attack.

Dragon 401 & Dungeon 192 ToC Are Up

They also forgot the Arcanist Wizard playtest in the Dragon ToC until yesterday. Aberrants, that's awesome. I've been looking through the MM and there's a bunch of single entry aberrant creatures with one or two stat blocks that haven't been updated in MM3 or MV (I wonder if they'll include...

You can see them here and here.

    Escape DCs

I believe its normally a moderate DC for its level, though many grabby monsters have a built in bonus so the DC falls somewhere between the moderate and high DC for its level.

    Battle Cleric Options is up

I've read thru a bunch of these threads and there's a point everyone missed while discussing the awesomeness contained within the article. That is, this is the first in a series of articles that take a look at underserved classes.

Proposed Monk Rules Preview (not house rules)

Monks can already apply a ki focus's enhancement bonus to their unarmed attacks without adding the Implement keyword. They can't use Dex to make the attack without taking the Melee Training feat.

Proposed Monk Rules Preview (not house rules)

You shouldn't be posting this on a public messageboard if you're intending for this to go to WotC, especially if they've asked you to write an article.

You can still get the PHB thru Amazon via the 4e gift set.

    Dragon #400

Here's another vote for updating the abominations. Updating a lot of the epic MM monsters would be a good thing.

    Dragon #400

Perhaps, the blurb for the Battle Cleric article mentions changes to the templar.

    Dragon #400

So the Jester, a bard sub-class? I'll have to go home and re-read Mearls' 3.5e update in the Dragon Compendium.

    Dragon 399 - Ampersand

I was paging thru the 1e MM2 the other day looking for stuff to convert and thought about the boggle. It looks like WotC beat me to the punch. The artillery version is very interesting despite what I think is a stat block error; a pure melee artillery creature, very neat!

Dragon 399 - Heroes of Tome and Temple

The next theme article is up; you can read it here. Its a pity that my campaign came to an end, the scholar theme would be perfect for one of the PCs, a scholarly avenger/bard of Ioun.
