    The Carbuncle

I enjoyed reading a thread in the General Discussion about all the strange double entendre-named monsters. I ended up statting up 4e version of the Carbuncle. (http://www.enworld.org/forum/general-rpg-discussion/297974-thats-not-armadillo-gem-its-head.html) Yes its high level, but I wanted it...

What New Essentials Builds Do You Want To See?

Yeah I know this is a pat answer, but --- it could always be reflavored. I am DMing in a campaign where a Vestige Pact warlock was reflavored to say that his powers are tied to the 'vestiges' of the fallen gods of Good (most of the PHB/Rules Compendium gods sacrificed themselves to stop...

What non-"essential" characters do you play?

You must not have been using Sword Burst....:p

What non-"essential" characters do you play?

I've only seen the Essentials Rogue played -- not seen any others yet. My 'classic' 4e PC's are not all are necessarily optimized characters, but they were fun to play: 1) Warforged Swordmage -- Shieldling Aegis build; multiclass cleric of Ioun. 2) Gnome Bard -- Prescient build; multiclass...

    Setting inspiration

Three Kingdoms -- great inspiration. Some of my older campaigns were took inspiration from a variety of sources: - Journey to the West (Monkey King and his friends help a Buddha). - Tailspin (old Disney cartoon) -- minor inspiration for a an airship-heavy campaign I ran. - 13th Warrior. -...

    Feats: PHB vs Essentials

I kind of like the idea that a Human could take both feats at 1st level and have a +3 to saves right away. Add those feats with Stubborn Survivor (Forgotten Realms Player's Guide) at 2nd level and a Human could then have a +5 to saves when they're out of actions points. That's an extreme case...

    Runepriest Article Bumped Again!

I thought the Illumians' Syllables of Power/Echoes (see Dragon # 392) were a much cooler type of 'boon rune.' This article just kept the runepriest as the corner case class of the entire 4.0 edition. Is this the least supported class? Has the seeker had any articles? C.I.D.

    Looking for an abandoned island

    1) Well there is St. Helena: Saint Helena - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - You might remember it as the final home to a one-time great martial ruler of a great realm-cum-empire in the North. He was overthrown (twice) and was exiled to this lonely south seas rock, only to be poisoned by his...

    Stats Below 8

Agree with you on both points. I used to be a big proponent of rolling for stats in previous editions, but I've noticed that the effects of such a policy is much more detrimental in 4e. 4e is sooo balanced between the PC's vs. PC's and the PC's vs. monsters/environment that its better to just do...

    BAD Patch to monster builder

Giant Crawfish = Deathjump Spider with a Swim speed. Actually removing the RPGA monsters doesn't bother me too much. I was more bothered when one of the updates way back in August or September 2009 deleted all of my custom monsters. This update merely gave us a preview of future products...

Monster Builder (the non-online one) gets a patch!

Doesn't it seem a bit embarrassing to call your 'update' an update and then say there's no identifiable data in the update for your users? Couldn't they at least have said -- fixing bugs?

The Dark Times are upon us...

My confidence in WotC's ability to bring quality software and online products. Their record stands for itself. What other company would be brazen enough to put 5-6 extra toggles, in addition to Monster Builder, on their Adventure Tools and only follow through with one after two years? This...

Monster Builder (the non-online one) gets a patch!

I haven't seen any mention of any of those in the Product Catalog or December+ previews. Anyone else have details? Seems odd to have those there in the non-online Monster Builder -- especially since Heroes of Shadow or the main Monster Vault aren't listed (but the Monsters Vault -- Threats to...

The Dark Times are upon us...

I'm sure we'll have plenty of bug-free and timely updates to the Character Builder and Adventure Tools to tied us over until the Class Compendium

    Traps in DMG I

I sold my DMG a few months ago to remove some clutter and because I thought it was as junked as I knew the numbers in PHB1 and MM1 had become. Well....in a way I was right, but the new Dungeon Master book in the Kit isn't all the DMG1 was. The new book reprints a lot of stuff from the DMG1 and...

City tiles master set printing problems?

I was fortunate enough to receive them as a gift from one of my players (that I dm for). I didn't see any printer errors. I did notice that many of the tiles were derivative of older tiles based on a cityscape. That said, there were also a lot of new tiles as well. Overall great product (great...

    Campaign Settings you like

Greyhawk (any era) Dark Sun Eberron They've always been my favorite published worlds. They run the gamut of what I'd want to play for a set world. That said, homebrew worlds are always more interesting. It is nice to see the creativity flow from DM and player to fill major gaps and build a...

    D&D Experience 2011 pre-reg is live

I wish it were still in Crystal City, Va. Sigh. Tempted to go this year nonetheless. The shared Dark Sun games sound fun.
