    Do you mark your books?

When I saw the thread title, I thought you were asking if people wrote in their books -- you know, marked them up. ;) I do actually put a little rune in most of my books, particularly the gaming books. I'm not worried about theft, but I do like to have a way of sorting mine out of the pile that...

    The Selgaunt Campaign

Tugging the arm away from the stone flyers' door, Artemis presses the runes that re-open the panel beside the pedestal (#9). Once again, the stone door slides up with a grumble, and after the runes flash again the portal appears on the wall. As before, it looks like a slick of pink-purple lamp...

HELP - I love beautifully crafted maps but...

If the real issue is that you aren't satisfied with the maps you draw during sessions -- because of time pressure, I'd guess -- then you might try drawing them full-size beforehand. I did this for my current campaign ("did" because we now play online) using big sheets of 1" square graph paper...

    Best RPG Books to Read

I've gotten a lot of reading mileage out of GURPS Warehouse 23, The Book of the Wyrm (for Werewolf) and Palladium's Weapons, Armor & Castles over the years -- there's just something so enjoyable about tucking back into them. Although I've only read each of them once, I can see coming back to...

    Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper

This stuff is like crack. By all rights it should suck -- too many flavors in one soda -- but it's fast becoming my soda of choice. Finding out how good it was more than made up for trying Pepsi Blue, Vanilla Coke, MD LiveWire and GrapeWhatever. ;) Mmmmmmmm... :)

What are you reading? (April 2005)

Simul-reading The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, the Mech Manual for DragonMech, and America (The Book). TSotW is interesting, reminding me a little bit of The Club Dumas and Foucalt's Pendulum (in good ways!); the Mech Manual could be a lot better, but it's got some fun ideas in it...

    Sin City

I started reading the comics 10 years ago, and I love them. That said, I think they did a nearly perfect job bringing Sin City to the screen -- it was fantastic. :)

    The Selgaunt Campaign

Back in the cylinder room OOC: This one requires a new map, which is posted here: cylinder room map. I numbered the doors for easy reference -- here are the ones you know about so far: 4 - Malkas Lockmyre's "prison" 5 - The stone flyers opened this one to release the flood 6 - The ooze room...

    Steambleh

(No spoilers in my post, just opinions on the movie. ;)) I went and saw Steamboy with my girlfriend last night, and overall I found it to be really disappointing. I don't usually post just to gripe, but since I'm generally a huge Otomo fan I was surprised at this one. It was dubbed, which is...

    TV on DVD: You favorites

I love TV on DVD -- it tends to be the only way I can keep up with things I like. Here's what I've got: Band of Brothers Buffy Firefly Highlander Jackass The Office South Park 24 X-Files I dream about owning all of the DS9 and Next Gen DVD sets, but at around $110 a pop that's not going to...

    Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver

It's weird, but Quicksilver didn't really do it for me. I love Stephenson in general, and his style in particular, and Cryptnomicon is one of my top two or three favorite books ever; Snow Crash and Diamond Age rank very highly as well. But by about halfway through Quicksilver, I really wanted a...

    The Selgaunt Campaign - OOC

Just wanted to comment that I like the directions you're thinking about going, and look forward to seeing how you decide to explore them! :)

    The Selgaunt Campaign

Putting the torso and the apparently matching arm side by side, Artemis and Tuggle spend some time examining them. The join between the arm and the torso doesn't look like it's missing any pieces, but it's not hard to tell that it would require some serious time and unusual tools to reassemble...

    The Selgaunt Campaign

It takes the better part of an hour, but three summonings later Tal's badgers succession of badgers has dredged the object up from the chasm. It's a torso. Made of a mix of copper (long since oxidized to a vibrant green) and a bright metal that looks susipiciously like that used in the...

    The Selgaunt Campaign - OOC

I'm glad that approach (the summary) worked for you. :) The bit about Elmelendia may have been unclear, or maybe not -- it's hard to tell from your question. You guys know where the sword is -- either Artemis or Cupric is carrying it -- so the nudge in the summary was in reference to anyone else...

    The Selgaunt Campaign

Picking up, and some guidance Examining the chasm by the light of the party's two everburning torches, you can just make out the gleam of metal. At floor level, the chasm varies between one and two feet wide -- but forty feet down, where the object is lodged, it's only a few inches across. You...

    16 plastic D&D figures @ $2.50

I believe these are usually among the quirky items offered at the Gamescience booth. I've picked up a few at GenCon to use for Cheapass games, and Gamescience sounds right.
